    3gs is supported

Ios 5 will work on 3gs. Surprised at that.

Still wasn't the update I was expecting. I mean big deal made out of Twitter and Note reminders!

No widgets or more custom features.

The new text messaging system should cut my phonebill a bit anyway!

Regarding widgets and notifications, they have to find a way of doing it that doesn't look like Android got there first.

Or they could just rip it off entirely......

iCloud is free. Does that mean we get a free email address? Or is Apple no longer offering that?

Am I being very 2002 by being concerned about the security of everything stored in the iCloud?!

No, I think it's a real concern, but we just have to hope that Apple is learning the lessons that Sony, etc are learning right now. And I assume you don't have to use it if you don't want to.

But surely Apple would have thought of that.

Also, am I alone in not really worrying about security all the time. If you're storing docs and music on a cloud. What harm could hackers do to you, apart from credit card details?

I like the idea of having my stuff accessible from any device and always backed up.

Ok I'm still very confused by this new iTunes Match thing.

Are they telling me if I have a dodgy 128kbps song I 'acquired' online, it'll scan the song, upgrade it to 256kbps and make it an 'official' iTunes song? And it's €25 for an unlimited amount of songs?

Yes. Although it's up to 20,000 songs IIRC.

Its the same price per year regardless of the amount of songs if I remember correctly

So what happens to MobileMe users now that iCloud replaces it, I've got about 15gb of documents and files, what happens to them?

Interesting. I wonder though would you have to keep on subscribing every year to keep them (i.e. they vanish after 12 months if you don't pay another €25).

I was hoping for something more dramatic from iOS 5, like dynamic backgrounds and widgets. iCloud looks pretty impressive though.

iTunes Match definitely offers a competitive advantage when it comes to storage of you songs, by upgrading them to 256Kbps. But you won't be able to stream them from their servers, only download them. Not a major problem, but if you have 20,000 songs and can't fit them all on your 16GB iPod/iPad, iCloud could have been somewhat of a solution for that. But it seems to be solely a storage facility.

Can I re-download my iTunes music purchases now? It's not much to ask.

    Some decent things in iOS5..

.. but Wireless Sync!? About bloody time!

Wondering that myself. Jobs said, "As of today this product ceases to exist." This must be slightly annoying for people who paid for a subscription to the service?

Don't get too excited about iTunes Match:
The iCloud beta and Cloud Storage APIs are available immediately to iOS and Mac Developer Program members at developer.apple.com. iCloud will be available this fall concurrent with iOS 5. Users can sign up for iCloud for free on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 5 or a Mac running Mac OS® X Lion with a valid Apple ID. iCloud includes 5GB of free cloud storage for Mail, Document Storage and Backup. Purchased music, apps, books and Photo Stream do not count against the storage limit. iTunes Match will be available for $24.99 per year (US only).

I'm not sure I understand how iTunes Match is going to work either. Sounds like a mp3 laundering service. There must be a catch. Either the songs have DRM (but I thought Steve said they didn't) or they are detecting whether they are legit (is this possible?). Are we sure it's not just going to stream them?

In any case, it will probably be years before it's available to Irish customers.

From what I can gather it is just a storage of you Music Library, which also upgrades the quality of the songs. This will cost you $24.99. When Apple first launched their DRM-Free songs on iTunes, I vaguely remember hearing that they contain "Account Information" (I say Account Information, but what I mean is something that can link that song back to your iTunes Account). So I assume when iTunes scans you Library, it will know what you bought from iTunes and what you didn't. There is no mention of streaming songs, just downloading your song to your iOS device, and I assume your PC and Mac.

I wonder how they'll handle people who have an Apple ID that they use for iTunes and apps, but a separate MobileMe account?

    iCloud Small Print:
Requires iOS 5 on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, or iPad 2, or a Mac computer with OS X Lion or a PC with Windows Vista or Windows 7 (Outlook 2007 or 2010 recommended). Limit 25,000 songs. iTunes purchases do not count against limit.

No Windows XP support  And only supports OSX Lion. Does this mean we have hit the end of future iTunes support on Windows XP? I suppose it's only time I updated Windows.
