Channel 4 is on Sky. Setanta Sports is hardly something to be bragging about. Now that the Premier League is over what do they have? Top Gear?

The IPL was on ITV4 this year. Not free in HD but free all the same.

The Premier League will be back in August if you assume (incorrectly) that's it's the only thing worth watching.

As for Channel 4 all very well if you're ok with having every other show blocked.

I never said it wasn't on itv4, I was saying that this year the majority of games were shown on Setanta Ireland and not Setanta Sports 1.

Pretty much is all that's worth watching. Unless you are also referring to the poker programming.

What shows are blocked on Channel 4 seeing as you know so much about it.

Update on UPC website states that re lose of ITV2/3/4 ' we are pretty close to signing a number of contracts with similar content - we will be unveiling these new channels over the next coming weeks'

Assume similar content indicates general entertainment channels

That was from Thursday, so we should get them by around mid June

Clearly since you know so much about it you're getting the value and did I mention poker? How about the rugby or Formula1?

Glee is blocked for a start, not my cup of tea but one of the most popular shows on tv. Luckily I can watch the poker on Setanta instead.

F1 is available free on BBC One and repeated non stop throughout the week on their interactive stream. Magners League was FTA on a number of channels. Channel 4 is also available FTA with no programming blocked on it.

RTE showed a few Magner's League matches and BBC One showed a couple of Ulster's matches and that was it

Games were shown RTÉ Two, TG4, BBC Northern Ireland, BBC Wales, BBC Alba and S4C. All available on satellite free with the exception of RTÉ Two and TG4.

It does look good on BBC One HD. You're not wrong there. And it is free too.

Great but it's not on sky, you asked to name a programme blocked on sky and I did. As for Setanta they have extensive rugby coverage and arguably the best pundits in Matt Williams & Neil Francis, further more they are the only broadcaster showing all games in the 2011 World Cup and in HD.

Not sure I would agree with that.*Those two are as bland as they come. Neither says anything of any substance. Matt Williams seems to be a nice guy but he's rubbish as an anchor.

There's a thread in Broadcasting about Setanta so maybe we can discuss the merits and demerits of Setanta there and keep this thread for new channel speculation.

Saorview is a week old now, still no additions. UPC must be hoping we shall just forget about replacement and new channels.

Its not a case of just adding channels thats out there..
They have to come to an agreement with RTE, and the other companies that own the channels they plan to add

Totally understand, but in the case of saorview, really how much notice did they need!? We've known it was launching for over a year, it's been on test broadcasts for months if not years at this point. Do they need someone to give them RTEs telephone number to sort this out?

Imagine the outcry in the UK if BBC three wasn't on cable or sky from day one. Same here. I pay a licence fee to RTE, I get my digital TV via cable. I should be able to see these channels. You can hardly disagree with that.

It's another reflection showing that UPC don't care about TV, just IMHO bundles and broadband. UPC could have capitalised on their launch as an "Irish" cable company with strong Irish EPG compared to the likes of Sky.

Its in Saorview's intersest to keep the services off UPC - what surprises me is that Saorview have not exploited RTE2 HD,
As for the other channels - I agree - since April 1st new channels have been coming very soon - and the likelihood is that these channels will be from current providers - so there is no real reason for the delay

I agree with you about Saorview but then again, has Sky got it on their EPG?
    Maybe RTE is holding back?

The must carries are RTE1/2 TV3 TG4 - RTE2 HD is not a must carry, same goes for 3e/Rte+1 etc

RTE2 HD is not on Sky either

Good for You patrickmooney!, cutting straight through their Bull and telling them exactly as many People see them............ bunch of lying chancers who only their digital TV users see through...... even in the upgraded area's.!
If they Bull us is there a reason we should not criticise them?
still hiding behind their tweets ......... i suggest they start a thread saying "UPC has balls", or even use the Info Channel to actually give us all the Info, not just the bits that suit them.

Saorview isn't all it is cracked up to be... for instance RTE +1 doesn't even show Fair City FFS... one of their biggest shows...

What exactly is Saorview cracked up to be? It is the replacement for the analogue terrestrial network. Nothing else.

It provides people with the terrestrial channels and one or two extras. It is not a competitor to pay television.

The advertisements do say that Saorview offers more than analogue TV does currently and also mentions that joke of a channel RTE1+1. Seeing as some of their biggest shows can't even be shown on it, I think it's fair to say that new Saorview channel isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I think it's fair to say you're confused, Saorview is a method of delivery which does offer more than analogue in that it offer digital quality picture, if you've seen it then you'll know that has been achieved.

Thanks, but I think I know what Saorview is;) The Saorview advertisements talk about more than just "digital picture quality and improved sound" as we all know. They include RTÉ1+1 in the advertisement as a new channel when in reality the channel can't even show all the programming that RTE1 shows in its limited hours of operation. I didn't say that Saorview isn't what it's cracked up to be, I said "that new Saorview channel" isn't what it's cracked up to be.

Why is Saorview even being discussed in a Cable Tv forum?
