Be honest OP, if you start a thread to bash Muslims at least don't pretend it's a thread about the appropriate social response to crime.

I never once mentioned Muslims in my post.

an eye for an eye is also in the bible, all these stories in religious books are taken out of context by extremists and power seeking nut jobs. These stories the majority of which were never meant to be viewed and taught in a literal manner, there are meanings and morales behind the stories which are supposed to be looked at. Not to mention these books are very out of date and dont always do well in modern society we are often dealing with very different situations then people from hundreds of years ago.

Where do these crazy jilted lovers get the acid? Is there some kind of acid aisle in supermarkets in the middle east and other muslim countries?

How about restorative justice? Perhaps ensuring that every penny he ever earns, all his assets etc. have to be directed towards whatever care that woman needs and more besides. There may be problems with the idea, but it's got to better than doubling the number of disfigurments created by the event.

And if all the evil people in the world blind all the good people, and all the good people reject the "eye for an eye"

    ...

Only the good people will be blind, and the scumbags will be fine.

Either would be OK by me, but I do think that someone who does that (throws acid in someones face) deserves to be punished very severely, and I won't lose any sleep if this individual gets revenge inflicted on him.

    and in France in 1977

If anyone was unaware of this it's worth noting that this was actually a beheading by guillotine. The Frenchies aren't as far removed as they think from the Muslims they say are threatening their way of life.

eye for an eye depends on the situation?
if the act was so horrible, such as is the case here, is it really that bad to use the eye for eye mentality?

    Car Batteries

Electrolysing a solution of Copper Sulfate (Not as hard as it sounds...)

It's not impossibly difficult to procure for something so deadly.

Over 4,000 years ago the Code of Ur-Nammu said

If a man knocks out the eye of another man, he shall weigh out one-half a mina of silver

one mina is about 66 grammes , a little over two ounces

so the fine would be about €25

i'm no fan of Islam. But this is one case in which I agree with them. OK - OTT compared to here - but we're the complete opposite with prisoner's "right" BS and their lobbyists.

A lot of crimes like the one mentioned in the article happen because of the deep-seated religious beliefs which also dictate sharia laws.

I'd love to know what deep seated religious belief says it's OK for a spurned suitor to throw acid in anyone's face

Technically yes, but if they are feeling light hearted they just rewire your toaster so it burns the toast every time.

Did you ever hear the saying two wrongs don't make a right?

If blinding someone in the eye is wrong, then it's wrong. There's no need to repeat it again as a punishment.
What's so wrong with just taking someones liberty away for a period (AKA jailtime) as punishment?

What if the prisoner is later found to be innocent, who looses an eye then ?

And if they find DNA evidence that later on proves that it was really them what happens to the person who lost an eye ??

What happens if a blind person gouges out your eye ?

The guy has admitted it. So no chance of blinding the wrong man. He's going to be anaesthetised and then the woman he blinded gets to drop acid into his eyes.

If the genders were reversed I can guarantee the international sh*t storm would be far more extreme. :(

I think that is the best punishment. He throws acid on her face he deserves the very same. Not 5 years in jail and then out. He, like her will have to look at his face for the rest of his life.

    He shouldn't get anaesthetised

Actually in one way I approve in this instance. I have read plenty of articles about a woman/girl being stoned or lashed numerous times because of an 'affair' for example. Not so long ago Feb/March, a 14 year old girl from Bangladesh was to be lashed 100 times, but collapsed and died after 70. What was her crime? Apparently having an affair with a married man, but actually she was raped and beaten by her married cousin and then accused of having an affair. Rape victims have very little chance of justice. So, as perverse as the eye for an eye thing is, I am happy to see some sort of swing in justice that favours a woman for a change. It's not a lot of compensation for her injury, but like I said, in this instance I have no objection to it.
