    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/may/13/iran-blind-criminal-acid
In a literal application of the sharia law of an eye for an eye, Iran is ready for the first time to blind a man with acid, after he was found guilty of doing the same to a woman who refused to marry him.
Majid Movahedi, 30, is scheduled to be rendered unconscious in Tehran's judiciary hospital at noon on Saturday while Ameneh Bahrami, his victim, drops acid in both his eyes, her lawyer said.
Bahrami who had asked for an eye for an eye retribution in the court, was disfigured and blinded by Movahedi in 2004 when he threw a jar of acid in her face while she was returning home from work. "He was holding a red container in his hand. He looked into my eyes for a second and threw the contents of the red container into my face," she told the court in 2008.

Remember reading about it at the time and thinking it was a great move.. Finally happening this Saturday. :) I know I'd want the same revenge if it happened me.. The only thing that would keep me going is knowing he was in the same position.

I don't agree with the whole eye for an eye thing but the acid attacks on women in that end of the world is sickening. This is Pakistan not Iran (pretty disturbing images, you've been warned)

How are they going to get home after this little event? Will it be the blind leading the blind?

I've a hard time feeling compassion or pity for anyone in that situation. I won't be losing much sleep over the fact that some evil bastard is going to lose an eye. As far as the quote " an eye for an eye makes the whole world bling" , I don't agree, it just makes the people who do evil, dispicable things blind.

Any of the bleeding heart liberals who oppose this should look at the photos. Once word gets out that if you burn someone the same thing will happen to you if might help.

It seems to be a great practice in theory and maybe even justified but cutting of another persons limbs or gouging out an eye is not what human beings should be doing to one another,Thats all about getting revenge but where does the revenge end, If a family memeber of mine was mutilated for what ever reason and I seen the other person on the street that caused it, It wouldent be saying hello I be saying to him/her. So where does the revenge end ?

The point is that all the evil people of the world blind all the good people. When the good people blind them back, everybody's blind!

This will never go ahead, they are just going to find some technicality to get out of it.

Yeah my first thought was that they were going to get her to chuck the acid over him when he was conscious, but this all sounds a bit too civilised. She wasn't given the opportunity to be unconscious when the incident happened so why should he.

But why should the bad people get off scot free. That will just encourage others in the future to be bad. And then what sort of society are we living in?!

Bad luck for all the old Testament Funsters - they have had a rethink.

TEHRAN (AFP) – The court-ordered blinding of an Iranian man who hurled acid in the face of university classmate Ameneh Bahrami has been postponed, the ISNA news agency said on Saturday without giving a source. The sentence had been scheduled to be carried out at noon (0730 GMT) on Saturday at the judiciary hospital in Tehran in the presence of a physician and representatives of the coroners' office and the prosecution.

Far worse if the state decides to lower itself to the level of people who do despicable things like this. If the state blinds someone with acid it is stating that this is a legitimate course of action.

The state should not lower itself to the lowest members of its society.

If that makes me a bleeding heart liberal so be it. A proud one too.

I disagree though, most states have to do things for the greater good, whether that is taxes, imprisonment, jury duty it has to be done. Now, I can clearly see the difference between imprisonment and corporal punishment such as this, the state has a duty to protect its citizens. Hopefully this will act as a deterrant and prevent any future attacks.

An eye for an eye makes sense on paper, but if you really think about it, it's quite disturbing.
The thought of mutilating the eyes of someone is more than a little creepy.

Maybe I'm just putting myself in the situation of being blinded and that's what's making me feel uncomfortable or it could be a large splinter in my "eye"

Yes. This course of action is definitely the right one.

May I use the US as an example? They have capital punishment and I can't ever remember hearing of a murder committed there.

What about cobras? They spit venom into other animals eyes to blind them which is pretty much the same as chucking acid.

The fundamental flaw in that analogy is that Cobras would spit venom as a defensive measure, not as evil retribution for being spurned.

To compare someone who would do such a thing to an animal is an insult to animals.

Exactly, what about venom. Acid is the subject.

They don't do it out of spite either.

An Iranian woman who had acid thrown on her face by a man she refused to marry has been granted retribution which will see the man responsible be subjected to the same act at the hands of the state.

    Story is here - http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/may/13/iran-blind-criminal-acid

Do you agree with this type of punishment, and should a similar idea be introduced here?

Personally I think it's retarded in this instance since the type of crime in the story is usually borne out of sharia laws in the first place.
