If you made an effort in the exams for biology. I got a breakdown of my marks last year and couldn't believe them. I only remembered doing one essay but got marks for two, that'll tell you what great quality my answer in the other one was. :pac:

Well hopefully I'll get some marks for phantom answers! That's reassuring anyway :)

I'd say you'll pass if you've done any work at all... I mean I passed first year with no repeats and I couldn't even tell you the lecturers names never mind what they taught. My essay in Biology was about why "staph. aureus is bad" and I drew a little petri dish with blood agar in it :D

Not sure if that was sarcasm. :pac: I was just trying to get across that they seem to be very, very generous with the marks in first year at least. :)
So far I'm really hoping they're almost as generous with the couple of exams I've had so far. :pac:

    No, it really is reassuring.

    Hopefully they're still generous!

Someone said to me that one of the lecturers for immunology said that her slides are only enough to pass?, is there any truth to this statement? (Someone else posted on the facebook page that that particular lecturer only wants us to demonstrate an understanding of immunity and she'll be happy!)

The immunology textbooks aren't much cop either, like 2 pages on malaria in each of them :/ and the malaria notes in the lecture slides aren't very good either.

On an unrelated note: I want one of those germ toys that J had in his introductory lecture.

The amount of time I spend on boards = the amount of time I should be studying.

Maybe I'll go make a pie chart about it or something equally unconstructive.

If I fail one exam this summer, it'll be this one.

The notes are 30-40% just charts of infection rates. The rest give notes on some of the broadest topics known to man.

Well, Infection and Immunity was a total joke. I was the first to leave, about 40 minutes in. Couldn't believe it when I saw that genetic diversity essay question :(

I didn't like that paper very much at all. Could defo have failed it... *sigh*

Was rather happy with the paper. I've worked as a research assistant on ELISA's so I brought developments of those in and concluded with biosensors. Twas different to what I was expecting but I'm happy.

It could have been a lot worse. Short questions were quite nice I thought. I mean compared to last years. Did the antibodies essay. Kinda messed up with the ELISA bit at the end but I think I got the general idea of an elisa across, so hopefully that'll stand to something.:)

EDIT: Just thought of something. When calculating our average mark at the end of exams, are the two chemistry modules counted doubly with regard to the biologies?

I'd imagine they would be weighted based on their credit value. I wouldn't put it past Trinity to try something schnakey though :P

The year comes up as 20 credits of chem, 40 of bio so 2 bio exams to one chem, if you will. Hence why I'm chuffed chem two went so well :)

Sorry to hear that, didn't really enjoy it myself, stayed the full time though, managed to spew out some nonsense about salmonella :/

Metabolism is awful to study. It's verging on impossible.

The names of molecules and enzymes is just frustratingly difficult.

Not looking forward to this exam one bit.

I used to feel the same way, I find though when everything comes together it just gets so easy. (Granted I love this stuff but hey...)

Having talked to Porter a few times about it, he seems to say understanding the function of the pathway and how it's regulated and triggered is more important than knowing the exact in's and out's of the pathway itself. So in otherwords, try think how it works as opposed to why.

Last year, it was the same day as the JF and SF results, so presumably then.

The booklet for us SF students says 17th of June!:)

Anybody else feeling bad about these SF exams? I started revision about 3 weeks before college ended and still resorted to doing all nighter cramming sessions before them... Yet I still feel like I might not have passed a single exam...

I'm by no means a scholar but I'm not stupid either and these exams are just killing me. I just want to scrape a pass and get into next year but I've yet to emerge from an exam with confidence... :(

I've got friends who are doing as much as I am and they're happy enough, and I've other friends who have done nothing all year and they're pretty happy too. I'm not the sort of person who gets worked up at all about anything but these exams are nightmarish for me. I repeated first year but I've never felt this bad about any exams ever.
    *epic sadface* :(:(:(

Was hoping to cram for Metabolism today but am only after waking up. Tempted to take tomorrow off because I have no clue whatsoever.

You might as well give Bioenergetics a go. Its only 2 lectures long and is a definite question!

After sleeping again and just up, looks like it's an all-nighter ahead so. :pac:

Nolan isn't going to ask P:O ratios or anything nasty and lab related is he?

I meant to do bioenergetics and lipids today, and thought I'd have enough time to read the biochemistry book I bought the other day, instead I've just finished bioenergetics now.

It was sunny, so I had no choice but to wear shorts.

Once wearing shorts, I had no choice but to go to the beach.

    Not my fault.

You're not alone. :) I haven't really found any of the exams brilliant. I think I've done enough to pass most, however, I'm really worried about Metabolism. Just can't wait for them to be over so I can find out if I'll be back for any in August.

You probably did better than you think you did. :D

I mean this in a good way, but dude it's probably in your head, how you feel after coming out of an exam doesn't necessarily reflect how you will do.

In my experience a fair number of the people that come out of an exam saying they did alright are the ones who in fact know very little, this isn't a general sweeping statement, it's just something i've noticed among some people who don't bother as much.

what i'm trying to say is that the more you study, the more you realise you don't know and the more you stress, even though you're probably better prepared than most.

So don't stress and just get through the rest of the exams.

    Well, Metabolism went terrible.

Silly lack of a carbohydrate question. I did well on lipids, but hadn't studied anything else that came up, so my answer on porphyrias consisted of about a page of bullet-points on werewolves, vampires, King George III and other equally useless information. Bad times.

Go go gadget, passing by compensation!

I had a dream, I kid you not, that pyruvate dehydrogenase would come up. Spent the morning reading the wikipedia page on it. Totally saved that exam for me. I'm now thinking I must be psychic.

Still angry that glycolysis didn't come up though.
