    I didn't say I didn't believe you Zohan.

I just didn't understand why you were asking the question, still don't tbh....unless to try to catch me out.

I was making a point, sometimes people don't believe stuff even after they read it.

I have down NYC as my location, why would I lie? Yet you said you "guess" I could be anywhere.

Wasn't trying to catch you out, just showing you that people can be sceptical, it's human nature. For the record, yup I'm in NYC.

As long as people have reasons to lie people will question things. Tbh i'd be more bothered about the people who dont question anything. I'm not a conspiracy theorist I just feel some things sound off sometimes.

I ask this after reading and posting in threads about Madeleine McCann's disappearence and the death of Osama Bin Laden.

That's not everything.. it's only two things.. both of which should arouse some degree of scepticism in a rational mind.

Why should people point-blank accept everything they are told?

If there was some grand worldwide conspiracy somebody involved would have left documents containing all the information on a train.

It wouldn't surprise me if the OP was a government plant to try and manipulate people in to believing everything governments tell us.
I don't see why an ordinary citizen would be expressing such a view. We all no there is more to the Bin Laden story. Do you really think we're all a bunch of sheep who are going to just say baaaah baaaah to everything?
Now tell us where are Biggie and Tupac:P

I believe you! I just wasn't sure what way the question was going that's all.

I love NYC by the way!

I am just asking a question out of genuine curiosity. The thread is meant to be a criticism or anything.

Apologies if my intent isn't clear, I am just curious!

You seem to be using the word curious a lot.

You have heard the story about the curious cat, haven't you?

Not saying they should, there are just some people who won't believe anything they are told, rightly or wrongly and I am just interested to see why.

Look I really am not out to start an argument or get people, genuinely I am not.

You ask a lot of questions. You sure you don't work for the man?

Let's face it, conspiracy theories are far more interesting then the real story. If the real story is that interesting you're rarely going to hear about it until far after the fact.

I REALLY like the way AudreyHepburn thanked this post. Really sums up the thread.

    Meaning?

I make a point of thanking answers to threads if they are reasonable, interesting etc.

I agree that CT being more interesting certainly is a big factor.

I doubt there's people out there that question everything, theres alot of hidden agendas out there and its good that people question it.

Fair enough. I guess you're referring to what people might call 'conspiracy theorists'.. the more hardcore of which have some sort of paranoid notion about how the world is out to make their lives more difficult.

My thinking is that those people have been failed in various ways by the system we live in, and they try to project their own experiences and failings onto how the world is run as a whole, in order to make sense of it all. If they see the world in such a way then it's fairly understandable that they are selective in what they choose to believe.

Yes. Unfortunately there are also a lot of people telling the truth who are targeted and slandered by people with hidden agendas. Conspiracy theorists don't seem to be able to tell the difference between the two.

In addition to the points already raised, I think it's also down to people often preferring to believe that bad things happen because someone or something planned it than to think that the world is just a place where many things are a matter of chance and therefore unfortunate things sometimes happen.

Yes to a degree, conspiracy theories are filling the gap vacated by religion in society.

The best thing to do OP is to start you own conspiracy that you know to be a load of bull****, give it a few years to get some support then come out and explain how you made the whole thing up.

That'll really mess with their heads!

Which one is the conspiracy? The one you made up originally or the one about why you're now denying it...???????????????

    True.

Although I think this term "conspiracy theorist" is a bit much, I mean how do you gauge how much of a conspiracy theorist one is?

I mean I would have suspicions on 9/11, Invasion of Iraq, Afghanistan & Libya and also our banking problem and subsequent bailout.

Does that make me a conspiracy theorist?

Do you think any of them are a conspiracy.

    If so, then Yes!

    If not, then you ok!

I ask this after reading and posting in threads about Madeleine McCann's disappearence and the death of Osama Bin Laden.

It is obvious that there are some people who will point blank refuse to accept anything offical sources tell them and I'm wondering why?

Why is so hard to believe Bin Laden was killed by American Special Forces, that Madeleine was abducted etc?

Why does everything have to be shrouded in conspiracy and contraversy?

The are very good reasons as to why an administration would lie to the press and the corporate press about Bin Laden.

Don't know anything about the Mad McC conspiracy though.

    I guess I am one then:cool:

I guess the only people who aren't conspiracy theorists are the ones who don't believe that people sometimes conspire then?!

I think it's a bit of a bullshit term myself.. used quite often as a means of belittling anyone who simply questions something.

    Indeed.
It is an odd situation that people belittle those for questioning a corporate press and administration that are cornerstones of a tyrannical system.

Well if you think the banking collapse was orchestrated by a powerful jewish elite who want to enslave us all and infect us with AIDS then I've some bad news for you.

Questioning what we are told is fine. It is our responsibility in the world of new media to pick the wheat from the chaff. But conspiracy theorists choose to disbelieve absolutely everything they hear and assume everything is a lie. That is just as brainless as believing everything

There are some who choose to do this and. of course, it's brainless. The term 'conspiracy theorist', though, is often used as a slur against people simply examining the validity of ideas/facts considered conctete and who simply wish to examine a subject for themselves.
People should dismiss what these people find if what they find/the theories they posit are unsound; to simply dismiss their motivation is folly and works against the very concept of a search for 'truth'.
