Why do people insist on seeing conspiracy/contraversy in everything?

I ask this after reading and posting in threads about Madeleine McCann's disappearence and the death of Osama Bin Laden.

It is obvious that there are some people who will point blank refuse to accept anything offical sources tell them and I'm wondering why?

Why is so hard to believe Bin Laden was killed by American Special Forces, that Madeleine was abducted etc?

Why does everything have to be shrouded in conspiracy and contraversy?

...Because the fact is people lie - and we accept a negative more quicker generally than a positive.

Just curious really. Why does it matter?

I believed our Minister for Finance when he went on the news and strongly denied there were negotiations for a bailout. I mean, why would he lie?
What a fool I was

People in authority blatantly lie so even when they tell the truth, people will question it

It's your duty as a human being to always question what you are being told by "official" sources.

Because for all we know you could be doing secret research type survey things for a foreign government or worse, our own government.

    I'm watching you.

That's true yes. I suppose it's just that I am rarely convinced by such theories myself because the evidence doesn't stack up so wonder why so many are.

Not a critique, just genuine curiosity.

Because a lot of people are capable of independent thought and don't believe everything that they read. feelingstressed gave you a good example, there are tons more.

Questioning what we are told is fine. It is our responsibility in the world of new media to pick the wheat from the chaff. But conspiracy theorists choose to disbelieve absolutely everything they hear and assume everything is a lie. That is just as brainless as believing everything

    You can't handle the truth.

    I don't think it's that simple tbh.

Just because I, for instance, believe Madeleine was abducted does not mean I can't think for myself, it just means that for me the evidence points to that senario.

Our brains are programmed to notice patterns - when they notice one thing that doesn't make sense, our brains will look for more. It builds up.

Look, take a walk outside and concentrate on the number four. The amount of things relating to four you will find is astonishing. Same would happen if you went out looking for three or five or whatever. There's probably a Wikipedia page for the phenomenon but I'm too lazy to find it, sorry.

Throughout modern history, there's been countless cover-ups exposed.. As someone else said, it's precedent.

I agree but there's difference between questioning and making things up/twisting facts etc.

NYC according to boards, but I guess you could be anywhere.

    Why?

Well with politics I think it is right to have a healthy, constructive cynicism. I wouldn't be one for ranting and conspiracy theories though, would try and see both sides.

With Maddy, the case hasn't been solved and there doesn't seem to be strong evidence that she was abducted, there is no official explanation.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

Because we have been constantly lied to by governments the world over, time and time again.

You "guess" it could be anywhere? Why don't you believe me that its NYC since I have NYC as my location? (not getting at you or anything)

We're talking about Osama Bin Laden here yea? You mentioned him in your OP..
I think it's only natural we are skeptical of the truth being told about him considering the very valid and quite frankly, annoyingly believable conspiracy theories regarding 9/11.

    I didn't say I didn't believe you Zohan.

I just didn't understand why you were asking the question, still don't tbh....unless to try to catch me out.

Well I just used him as an example really. I have my own opinions on that which are that he died as was reported, but I don't want an argument to start.

Let's face it, conspiracy theories are far more interesting then the real story. If the real story is that interesting you're rarely going to hear about it until far after the fact.
