Depends on the material. That AK was full steel. The only aluminium parts were the barrel (what little barrel there is exposed on an AK74U) and the front end plate for the top handguard (you can just about see that it's black in the photo).

Magnesium/Aluminium bodies will strip back reasonably easily with chemicals like Nitromors and some elbow grease with abrading papers, but the quality of the metal underneath can sometimes leave a lot to be desired. I stripped back an M4 previously, simply for giggles and because I had a spare M4. The metal surface under the paint was far from smooth. CNC bodywork, this was not. Clearly the paint was applied thickly enough to hide and fill in these indentations and blemishes. Even after heavy treatment with shot-peening and glass-bead blasting, it still looked rough.
That said, if you get a decent looking surface under that paint, buffing it on a polish wheel (or by hand, if you don't have access to one) turns up a cracking shine. The only problem there is that you're exposing it to corrosion. The paint isn't just there for effect, it's also there to protect the metal.

hmm i see well the model id planned for it would be this:

http://www.airsofteire.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=670&category_id=14&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26

be more for laughs aswell, the ak just been sittin there and id rather do something to it rather that just sell it off,

these nitromors, would you get them at a hardware or painting store and what abrading papers would you suggest for the job?

Tomorrow is the 21st of April 2011 - 21/04/11.
The date in the Terminator movies that Skynet begins it's war on Humanity...... Oh ****!

I thought the date in T2 was 1997.

Regardless I'm fine. I knew buliding my own personal fallout bunker was a good idea...

Apart from that, it's a great vid.

:mad::mad: this is a pain in the ass

Can anyone tell me why my FF won't play flash objects like YouTube links. I've tried to fix it but keep having to either switch to Chrome or IE to look at vids. And no I havent upgraded to FF 4 broken, still on 3.6.

Dunno, doesn't seem to be a valid link, I tried editing it.

Edit:
In the first vid you posted:
It takes a bit before its funny but its worth it :D

That should have been:

I've the same problem - I was wondering whether or not I was making an árse of things when uploading, as lately I just can't upload youtube. So it's firefox then - so there is something that the other evil browsers do better?!

Yeah, it's the adobe plugin that keeps failing - would go with chrome but I prefer the FF cookie and adblock controls. Chrome seems to allow an unending stream of popups :(
