While there are factors that cause variances - one of the main ones being: a e.g. Dunnes size 12 is much bigger than a Top Shop size 12 - there is a general scale all right:

    Size 6 - very petite/slender
    Size 8 - petite/slender
    Size 10 - slim
Size 12 - curvy (in the good way)
Size 14 - not big but a little bit chubby, can look curvy in the good way too
Size 16 onwards - plus sized

Again though, there are variances. The above is just a rough guide.

Size 4 is a rarity, if in existence at all for healthy women - there was a push for it to become a reality there a few years ago (anyone who says certain elements of the fashion industry don't push unhealthily thin is deluded - even if there's also a culture of complacency re excessive weight). The above are this side of the Atlantic too, it's different in the States - over there, the numbers start lower. The size zero thing means a size four (or thereabouts) here.

I think it's clear that the general consensus is that some men like waifs, some men like slim, some men like curvy and pretty much no-one likes properly fat girls. Doesn't that about sum it up? You can't please everyone so why not just please yourself!

What about the dudes? All things being equal - face, own teeth, personality, etc - I think the scrawnier the better. It just feels wrong if a guy's thighs are bigger than mine. *Shudder*

So as a current size 14 (aspiring size 8/10, my wedding size) what is curvy? Can I stop now I like food.......:p

Size 14 is more heavy than curvy IMO.

Personally, I like a girl to look 'fit' rather than 'skinny'. I can't stand fat / heavy / obese girls, especially the ones (like one of my exes) who moaned and cried about it and did **** all about it.

My current gf is pretty near my ideal body.... about a size 10, nice arse and has boobage too, while having a nice athletic body. Can't ask for more!

You "can't stand" them? What did they do to you?

It’s all in personal perception I guess. I prefer the look of size 2 and size 4 women... but I did work in the fashion industry for a number of years.

Fair enough. Those are pretty rare sizes, at least naturally!

In the fashion industry it's pretty standard, even down to size 0.

Yeah it really is quite an ambiguous size because it's the point between curvy and the start of heavy, so it can mean either.

If a person (male or female) is the above and doesn't whinge/go on about it and is an all right person, seems bizarre to dislike them for their size, even if you can't understand their lifestyle.

    Standard, not necessarily natural. ;)

A tall size 8 would be told to slim down, no?

The size 12 in that pic has the perfect figure IMO.

All that media stuff about men preferring curves I think had the original intention of making girls who thought they were fat (when they weren't) feel better about themselves for not being stick-thin, but that was back in the 90s at the height of the "waif" craze. Positive body image messages are a good thing - and might even go a little way towards preventing eating disorders (although obviously the causes of eating disorders are more complex than what a magazine says) but lines like "Men prefer curves" now are being used to make women who are unhealthily big feel better about themselves - in my opinion, encouragement to lose weight should be the message in those cases.

What is an Aussie size 12 in our sizes? The size 12 body in that link is definitely my fave.

This is a link to show pictures of different sizes in girls which will give you a general idea.
    http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/the-figures-are-in-and-they-reveal-that-given-the-choice-most-men-will-plump-for-a-curvy-girl/2008/04/05/1207249548553.html

One of the big problems with this though, is that I have met many girls who are a lot bigger then the size 14 girl in that picture but will claim to be a size 12. So yes the numbers are confusing and then when girls lie about the numbers, it gets even more confusing.

Definitely the 14 on the right for me.

Curvy means you carry the weight in the "right" places. I know some sizes 12's that are apple shaped and look out of per-portion its all about where you carry your weight.

5 foot 9 inch to 5 foot 10 inch models seem to be most common in sizes 2 and 4. But waist and hip measurements are often more important.

I very much doubt there are many natural 5'9", 5'10" size 2s and 4s strolling around the planet. Some, but not very many.

    ****sake, 14 pages of this?

I just browsed the last few pages. I remember seeing someone say that nobody likes fat women. I guess all those BBW sites are for - nobody?

Far too many people obsess about women's bodies, and that is a fact.

Apologies, I should clarify... I don't find size 14+ girls attractive, but I am friends with people who are curvy/heavy/fat/obese.

If they don't whinge about it and make a huge deal of it, that's fine. But in my experience, a lot of girls from size 14 upwards have huge body issues, which gets very tiresome to listen to.

What annoys me is that every single person has the ability to change their body to something more pleasing to themselves, but moaning about it and being lazy is easier for most and that's what they follow.

it depends if the poster is talking about american sizes or not. 2 and 4 in american sizing would be average, something like, what 8 and 10 here?
or else im completely wrong, in which case id tend to agree with you! :)

Agreed. (And I'm going on the way it was in the industry back in early to mid 1990's.)

My wife seems to add a size every decade... now a size 6 and she hates it.

Well, size 8 and 10 are considered "fat" in the modelling world, so I think he might mean actual UK size 2 and 4.

    I don't mind a fat woman.

Naturally fat, though. With smooth skin.

Generally, if she's comfortable in herself, no matter her size, it's easier to be comfortable in her. (entendre not intended)

When the question is framed as "do you find really thin/skinny women attractive or a turn off?", of course nearly every reply will be turn off because "really skinny" is relative. It's a matter of perception and is going to mean "skinnier than the ideal" to most people.

Better to ask an open question such as "what size women do you find attractive?" or to define a certain size of woman and ask for a yes/no answer.
