I think you'd probably be better off renting some rack time in a remote lab than spending that amount on a switch to be honest.

http://www.gigavelocity.com/ seems pretty cheap, and was recommended by a cbt nuggets instructor (I've never used it though, so caveat emptor).

There is also a free lab that on packetlife that might be useful (and that just got a 3560) http://packetlife.net/lab/

    Best of luck!

    Brilliant, thanks for this:D:D:D:D:D:D

Passed Tshoot today, CCNP now :)

I've put up my GNS3 topology I used to study - Link here. There's a rar file which contains the config files. It isn't 100% the same as the exam but good enough to at least get an idea of what's going on.

    Congrats man.

I've decided to complete the CCSP before completing the CCNP.

SNAF exam booked for the end of Sept. Then I'll do SNAA, CCNA-Security, SNRS and IPS. (I heard a rumour they may be getting rid of the IPS exam so hopefully that happens before I start preparing for it.)

Best of luck with it. All of those exams look interesting apart from the IPS, but then i've never even used the device before!

Hi guys, anyone have any advice on how to get used to binary subnetting for the icnd 1 exam, really struggling with it. :o

  • Registered Users Posts: 938 ✭✭✭logic

Do you understand it fully? If so, the subnet game on the cisco learning network might help you get up to speed.
    https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/docs/DOC-1802

    Some other games too
    https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/community/connections/games

If you having trouble grasping the concept then you will need to read around until you find an explanation that makes sense to you. Have a look a some youtube videos too.

Also - its worth knowing that TSHOOT is a walk in the park! :-)

  • Registered Users Posts: 725 ✭✭✭djfattony2000

    That is good to know.

Need to box off the Route exam first. Will book the Shoot straight after I pass it.

Seems to be the case alright once you're solid with route and switch.

I'm holding off CCNP at the moment to do SNAF and SNAA to get the ASA Specialist. Also need to sort out my linux knowledge and then I'll be back to finish off the route and tshoot! :)

    How will i know that
    my certificate has been expired?

  • Registered Users Posts: 725 ✭✭✭djfattony2000

    Log into this.

    https://i7lp.integral7.com/durango/do/login?ownername=cisco&channel=cisco&basechannel=cisco&usertype=candidate

You'll need your Cisco number the first time you register. Then go to Certification Progress once you have logged in. All your certs are shown there and when they expire.

Im done with this, I have CCIE written on March 7th. If anyone is interested in forming a study group let me know!

Just a quick question. I have CCNA which expires in November. I have the Switch exam booked for Good Friday. If I pass the switch exam does that extend my CCNA for another 3 years.

Just a quick update for the people interested in going for CCNP..

Cisco will be making all current devices end of life soon by the looks of it and moving to the ISR platform which runs IOS 15. What this means for students is about $2500 for your home lab of 2 routers and heaven knows how much for the software license.

This means that the only way to pass your exams will either be by spending a fortune on your home racks, buying online rack time if you can find an up-to-date topology or by going on a course of some sort which will be around $3000 or more.

I predict that many Cisco training companies will go bust when this happens due to the sheer expense involved in upgrading their equipment and the inability to resell their current kit.

At this moment in time I suggest you redouble your study efforts because I see many of the current Cisco exams being retired and replaced with new features of the IOS and ISR platform.

Hi guys, I'm interested in forming the "official" Cisco user group for Ireland as none currently exists. I'm just wondering if anyone would be interested?

I need to get an idea of numbers before I approach contacts.

    Thanks,

  • Registered Users Posts: 801 ✭✭✭Shamo

Yeah I'd be up for that

I'm sorry but I'm still not sure I understand your point? :(

Firstly, Cisco are not "retiring" these devices right now (I wouldn't believe anything unless I read it from the horses mouth).

Secondly, if they were retiring these platforms this doesn't really present a problem for companies with valid licensed software and genuine hardware.

Can you explain your point in more detail?

Recession means that a large amount of my customers are becoming more price aware than before...Now, is "how much?" rather than "when?" or "is it better than..?"

Hardly selling a Cisco Wireless AP when TP-Link has it for 30% of the listed price of the Cisco oem device !! And...does the same job !

Please feel free to open a new thread about it as is not part of the original training posts...
    Regards
