He has time to help his son run the local casino though....

If he's doing that on his own time, fair enough.
If he's doing that on time he's meant to be looking after the public in his area - then he's clearly no person to be throwing cries of "abuse of office" or words to that effect.

He'd be the "pot calling the kettle black!"

Did you know that when Ming was Mayor of Rocommon, he proposed that his "Mayoral Allowance" be halved, and many of his other allowances be abolished entirely.
But i guess the proposal met with a "mixed reception" from the rest of the council.

When elected to Dáil Éireann he vowed to take a 50 per cent salary cut and urged his fellow TDs to follow suit.

Do you think they will? (fat chance!)

    We need more Ming's please.

He'd still be able to afford all his illegal drugs he wants if he did that and it'll make people like him more. It's a winnning tactic.

So why is there such a big bruhaha when when he's prosecuted for breaking the law? I didn't realise that obeying laws is voluntary.

Because he's a fu*king muppet who uses the sole gimmick of "I will make weed legal and I smoke it when it's illegal, so I'm a hero" to get elected.

I agree with pretty much everything you said but some people (generally the stoners from what I've seen) just don't seem to understand that changing the law and breaking it at the same time is completely idiotic. Personally, I think he should be in jail but he appeals to the local stoners so he's a TD now.

On a lighter note: this was here yesterday and was locked somewhat soon. Mods all on the hangover day off? :P

    Nope, but quite ironic.

Why is it ironic? He helps his son in his legitimate business, and objects to people breaking the law. Perhaps my irony detector is off today, but I fail to see the irony.

LOL, by the way, from this thread, i'd say that i'm probably the least sheep-like poster here.;)

It is not democracy. It is a form of democracy known as 'representative' democracy. Effectively a group of people, in Ireland's case TD's, are elected and then effectively get to vote whatever way they want on specific laws. I feel direct democracy such as that used in Switzerland and some US states such as California is much fairer. In those cases if enough signatures are gathered for a petition it is put to a referendum of the people, not TD's.

    +1

...and you saved me a load of typing.

Do you grow and smoke your own or do you buy it from the same drug dealers who are commiting murder up and down the country every week?

I buy my friends home grown (non-terrorist or gang related best mate!) til the laws change and after that I plan on having 3/4 plants at anyone time

What's wrong with that? Is it illegal?

    Yep.

Swap the word gambling for the word cannabis, and you'll see what I am getting at....
"I know one of the most serious side effects of cannabis is depression. There are a lot of young people who I have seen suffer because of this."
"I know one of the most serious side effects of gambling is addiction. There are a lot of young people who I have seen suffer because of this. "

It's ironic because gambling is another pursuit that ruins peoples lives quite frequently. but that's okay!

I try my best to know where my stuff is coming from. its not always possible. I have been lucky that for the past while that i know exactly where my cannabis originates, because its the right thing to do, i know that theres no gangland element involved, and that my stash isnt contaminated to ****.

the fact i can counter arguments like yours is a bonus though.

So because you think you know where it comes from you consider that to be a good counter arguement

How do you make that conclusion, by your own admission you would obey a law even if it was a bad one. That's decidedly sheep like behaviour, to me anyway.

So if homsexuality was re criminalised us 'sheep' should obey it and any TD who happened to be openly gay should be prosecuted. Honestly

That we live in a democracy? Having the IMF bailout foist upon us is democratic?

We live in a type of democracy. There are other, better democratic systems out there, as outlined in HC's post.

What a statement. How many murders are there in Ireland every week? I bet you like Joe Duffy.

Question: is Ming from his area?
As he's been selected to partly represent his area - maybe he should concentrate actually on them (and give out about crimes in the area he's been selected for?). Not be crying about someone far elsewhere in a building in Dublin?

I'm almost sure the man will have enough crimes to look into at home and complain about then have to go looking at heads that are in National office and stature which are far higher than his lowly ass.

Or then again, you'd probably pull a Ming and be fine.

Here's the funny thing, all the pot-heads/junkies/stoners and so on don't seem to realize that most normal people think Ming is an idiot and should be in jail for the fact he breaks the law and tries to change it.

If he wants weed to be legal, fine. Just don't make a joke or a mockery of being a TD or the election process. But he's on weed, he probably thinks it's funny.

So what you're saying is that those who voted form Ming are not normal?

    Some speak that.

    anyone who isn't a pothead. :)

For some damn reason wasters like that just don't see the problem with a TD breaking the law. I wonder why that it is

Yes, that's right. Or, they just don't understand how much of a muppet he is and he should have been locked up already.

Anyway, I'm already being jumped on by the stoners here so I'm out.

You can all have the last word whenever you finish breaking the law or "willingly smoking an illegal substance" or whatever you lot call it after you spin the words around so you feel good.

Wrong. he ran on other policies too, far from "gimmicks" perhaps if you researched him you wouldnt have made such an illinformed post?

Here's the funny thing, all the pot-heads/junkies/stoners and so on don't seem to realize that most normal people think Ming is an idiot and should be in jail for the fact he breaks the law and tries to change it.

Wrong again, if that were true then he wouldnt have been elected at all.

you really dont know what you're talking about.

So... he didn't try to appeal to the stoners? He tried to appeal to everyone with the thing of "I smoke weed and will get it legal"?

And... yes I do know what I'm talking about. But then again I don't understand the inner workings of a drug addict like Ming.
