An IBM Supercomputer "Watson" just beat the two reigning champions in a 3 day game of Jeoprady. Teaching computers to come up with correct answers to such difficult and cryptic questions is notoriously difficult, so this is a real milestone for computer science.

The computer may be the size of the room to do kind of calculations from vast amounts of data, but your phone is probably many times more capable than the supercomputers the size of a room 20 years ago. So in the not too distant future this type of thing may be commonplace. Apparently they are already going to use it to help doctors made decisions, but also later in the consumer and financial sectors, and after that, pretty much anything I'd say.

Probably? Sure the computing power of a wristwatch is more powerful that the computers used on the Apollo missions.

Moore's Law goes into more detail about the exponential increase of computer power over time.

I worked in the local chip ship for all my late teens (1994-1997), and after having heard people coming into the shop saying they'd been in Scotland and had battered Mars Bars, old man Alonzi (the owner) decided to give it a go. So he froze a twix, then before opening up battered it and lashed it in. It was fecking lovely. Still surprised as to why he never put it on the menu, a few of us tried it and all loved it.

Now, for a serious heart attack inducing meal - has anyone ever tried battered pizza? Never tried myself, but apparently (from watching an interview with your one Sharleen Spiteri from Texas) it's on the menu in chippers in Scotland.

I can also vouch for the deliciousness of a battered Mars bar. I used to work in my local chippy too and tried it once for the craic. I wouldn't be ordering them regularly or anything but it was surprisingly tasty.

Actually, on the subject of discogs, I found a very handy app called 'Crate Digger' for the iPhone - its allows you link to your discogs account and you can then access your collection/wantlist details... I used it yesterday while going through some 2nd hand tracks in Spindizzy, there were a few I wasn't sure I already had - a problem I frequently have when digging through 2nd stuff!
