I'm using Japanese Jellyfish and it seems fine. No problems since I installed it on Friday and as the phone is new, I've been using it quite a lot.

    What problems are you having?

it keeps coming up with message 'sorry! the process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. please try again'
(performance is same as orange rom also which is sluggish to say the least)

this comes up every five seconds for no reason, it won't let me in to messages or browser almost every second time i try and get in.

clockwork is set up fine, so i guess it could just be a faulty rom, downloaded 'modace custom rom r7 now, hopefully that'll work better.

it may be that the cache is not cleared with the new method perhaps thus creating conflicting commands perhaps?

gonna give it a whirl now...

    EDIT!

same message coming up with new rom now! performance is better but still a bit sluggish compared to an iphone or i touch browser

just tried installing angry birds and it went back to the mondaco boot screen and rebooted. gonna try and clear cache theough old method(power on and hold down on side of handset)

hopefully this may flush the problem out.

EDit: evidently not, it is still there.
could it be an application in the background trying to install every 5 seconds perhaps?

Did you restore apps and data with Titanium? If you're going from 2.1 to 2.2 you will probably have problems restoring because I'm 100% certain system apps are incompatible and I think things like contacts etc are stored in the sqlite database differently in 2.2.

Try and revert to your 2.1 backup, sync contacts with your google account or save to your sim, and then reinstall a 2.2 rom with a full wipe.

Then be careful on the items you restore with Titanium, ie only market apps/data.

cheers, would i need to restore any applications from the old rom even if i didn't install anything? i didn't initially install any apps on orange rom and the same on this release also

the first thing i installed on the phone was angry birds earlier(well tried to anyways)

thinking the best angle is to remove the 3 programmes that change roms and start from scratch again, will take a break for couple hours and come back to this me thinks:P

Without any apps etc, just use clockwork to wipe data, wipe cache and then install the new rom.

Don't restore anything and either import your contacts from your sim or google sync and double check that they're all there and you should be grand.

That worked perfectly! fair play to you sir, she runs much much better than the old orange rom now,now to get a few games on there and see how she handles them.

    thanks again.

Battery life is noticeably better under Modaco Custom ROM 11 ;)

I'm still on r7. Too lazy to do the backup / restore business. Battery is lasting two days for me now though (I go into airplane mode at night).

Khannie - I seriously recommend that
    1. Donate to Titanium Backup to get a licence to upgrade from free to Pro, this will stop the random freezes and stalls with the software....
    2. Download and install MCR11, Paul of Modaco listened to my input in kernel tweaks, the end result is a very smooth, fluid and stable ROM, even his ROM is the only one that has the Wifi fixed up, and as I pointed out that the battery lasts a helluva lot longer due to the aforementioned tweaks...

Now, ROM12 is in the pipeline, ETA unknown, am watching his tweets on it and on the site itself... so its a worthwhile task...

And thanks to an individual on this boards (the guilty will remain nameless ;) :P) Angry Birds - blew away my productivity... nonetheless, the battery does seem to last longer despite it err... getting practically angry at the pigs and catapulting themselves at the battery.....

that is meant in a positive light in that I can play the game and enjoy it after being ranted about it and discovered for myself how infuriatingly simple and beautiful concept of such a simple game... who needs Call of Duty... meh! Cheers for ranting at me about it and taking my initiative into downloading and getting hooked!!! ;)

You know who you are for that - cheerio!!!! :P

i would but i'd have to repartition :(

Open the rom zip and go to system/apps and remove maps and some other apks that are available in the market.

I was thinking 128 could be a little small when that whole trend started and I decided to repartition to about 143MB on system, I got 64MB extra on data and shouldn't have any close calls, even if I have to return to stock.

Is r11 available for free yet or is it still in kitchen only?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 327 ✭✭sombaht

Believe R11 is kitchen only. R7 is available as a prebake.

Ah right cool. I'm on R7 at the minute. Any clues as to when R11 might make it to prebake?

No idea man. But for what its worth you should consider getting a MoDaCo Ad Free subscription, gets rid of ads from the site and gives you access to the kitchens. Not bad for the price of a couple of pints.

Just have. Figured it's worth doing it as it's for an entire year and there might be some valuable fixes/updates in the most recent versions that I'll want.

Just downloaded r11 now and about to give it a try.

    CLOCKWORKMOD QUESTION:
Anytime I update the ROM on my phone I end up losing all my apps/data/contacts etc. Last time I did a backup on CWM before I updated but when I went to restore my user data the ROM would no longer work.

How do I go about doing this? I'm getting annoyed having to reinstall all my apps and set preferences all over again for each.

Where did you find the bake or kitchen option? I paid my subscription last night. I don't see anything different, but I'm not sure where I should be looking..

whats the best voip for the SF?
trying to call the missus from desire to SF and her SF will not front up.
    cheers

I have both skype and skype on three and they work fine for me.

Market skype isn't great because it only works through the speakerphone though.

Sipdroid and fring are supposedly a good sip/voip apps but as with skype, the market versions also only work through speakerphone on the sf.

I haven't had time to play around with it yet, but in #69 here there's a sipdroid debug apk that may possibly go through the earpiece rather than the loudspeaker.

Kitchen is post #2 here, when you're logged in you should see click to bake at the bottom of the post!

One thing I should mention, I fell into this trap - am using MCR11 ROM btw, and is extremely stable, no wifi disconnects, longer battery life etc, now onto the important bit....

From the kitchen on modaco, ensure you use the stock contacts/dialler, as there's issues with the ZTE contacts and dialler....

I have contacts, exported via way of VCF or V-Cards stored on my sdcard in the handset, I imported them into the contacts "book", what I did not know was this - at one time or another, I had google sync on my google account activated, and they were transferred to my account on the server (that I did not know about), and what happens is each time I reinstall a rom, I go back and import my contacts, the end result is I end up with duplicates, so to deal with that, I went to the website and logged in, did a merge on the contacts there and then, then activated the google sync, the contacts "book" started to fill up without a need to do the import....

So in a nutshell, import once and forget about it, let "google do the talking" and hey presto, all contacts downloaded...

I was hesitant at first.... but can see the neat advantage in that....

Anyway, if that happens, do not be alarmed, if you see replicated contacts everywhere, go into Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Contacts, clear the data (wipe it - yes!) and do the same for the Contacts Storage also. The contacts "book" will be empty, now, activate the sync on your google account and wait for a few minutes, google will pull 'em down and slot in your contacts and you're done.

How long ago did you get it?

It's not Seb's or FLB, when the gf get's home I'll check her MCR Froyo. Not that either

If it was shipped to you longer than a week ago I'd have to assume it's the Jellyfish though because Paul has only had ROMs on the 2.6.32.9 kernel for less than a week.

edit: I think it's safe to say it's JJ but which version?? Look for posts in the JJ thread around the day it was shipped and you may get an idea of how old it is.
Sorry for delay in coming back... Not sure what it was but got the new jellyfish sorted.... Thanks for the help though...Very very stable. I think I'll be keeping this version on it.

Im gonna have to say jelly fish is my choice as well

Guys need your help. I tried to install Pauls Modaco Rom R7. Got clockwork installed no probs and install the row.

Now the phone will not boot. Gets stuck on the green android logo!!!

I've tried going back into clockwork and clearing the various cache settings to no avail.

Any ideas? Im stumped and am afraid i've bricked it :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,095 ✭✭✭zing

If you can get into clockwork it's not bricked.

I'd suggest verifying the md5sum of the image on the micro sdhc card and assuming it matches flash the image again through clockwork. Otherwise download it or an other image again, copy to the flash card (verify md5sum again, etc..) and trying to reflash it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 525 ✭✭✭JHet

Thanks did that MD5 is good!

Tryed Jellyfish and desoftened mod. Same deal. Think i screwed something up.

Can still get into clockwork and the rom installs no problem, it just refuses to boot!

At my wits end at this stage. It just stages on the green android screen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 613 ✭✭✭t0mm13b

There's one thing about clockwork - it requires to press the same key twice... (by design only).

Secondly, if you can pop out the battery, remove it completely, and pop it back in, hold down the volume down key, press the power key, keep the volume down key pressed down until you see a series of dashes on the screen, then let go of the volume down key, the clockwork menu appears - your handset is definitely not bricked...

I suspect your ROM is not compatible or that the blade is non TFT? i.e. OLED?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 525 ✭✭✭JHet

I think its TFT.........the build no was b08 as far as i can remember
