JJ RLS 7.5 out now - seems to fix a few things. Trying it out atm. Has reverted to the stock dialer which I prefer (or what I presume is the stock dialer as it's what on my N1). This is a testing version before RLS 8 so may not be for everyone.

Really really liking this phone. Only for you guys I would never have noticed it. Only problem is the battery, goes down so fast.

Somehow managed to de-brand it, don't know how but I did it. Phone runs much much better. Think I'm just going to leave the 2.1 version on it for a while and see how it goes.

Is flash player only available to download on 2.2?

Diff firmwares seem to have some battery issues i.e. people reporting battery lasting a lot longer on some that others. Also it's a smartphone so odds are you're going to be charging it daily anyway.

    IIRC - Yes

Interesting. Which firmwares seem to be best/ worst for conserving the battey?

Couple of people over @ modaco suggesting flb pretty decent battery wise. I've not had any given rom on the phone for long enough though to be able to confirm

Running flb-froyo-blade-r5, battery is at 93% after 10 hrs, didnt use phone much today

I switched the wife to FLB r6 a while ago from JJ and it seems more stable and batterylife is improved (maybe, hard to tell)

    An absolute steal imho!

And here's something that may make it a little better for those just getting on the bandwagon:

Blade Recovery Manager Beta by Seb404

Install this app and two apps from the market, and it should really help anyone who's command line/flash/clockwork phobic get off of the crappy stock rom without any trouble. Still in Beta, but worth a shot for anyone having difficulties

For what you get it IS a steal.
My brother and his wife got one each.

    Debranded and unlocked.
    2.2 FTW :)

amazing piece of kit for the price.
    highly recommend them.

anyone looking to get an iphone and hestitant about the price of iphones - get one of these you wont regret it.

    Best performing froyo Rom atm???

If people here had to choose between the Galaxy S and the San Francisco which would you go for assuming they were the same price?

I'm also wondering this too. I want something stable, that will last. I don't think I fancy changing the Rom every few weeks (I may be picky but I want 2.2, and not 2.1)

I bought my San Fran on Ebay with Froyo 2.2 installed. I'm not 100% of which version is installed though. Anyone know how I'd find out what version I'm running?

System details is telling me the Kernel version is 2.6.32.9-perfluwenjun@localhost #2 and the Build number is FRF91. I've looked on the memory card but don't really know what I'm looking for to be honest.

No brainer. Same price I'd go with the galaxy S.

On specs alone, I'd have to say the sgs with the hummingbird, min 8GB internal storage, etc etc.

However, nearly every app I see in the market has people complaining that it doesn't work on the sgs (NFS Shift for example among a lot of others)

I suppose a lot depends on the custom firmware scene for the sgs and how much of Samsung's crap customizations can be fixed of which I honestly have no idea.

I can honestly say that if someone wanted to do an even swap for my san fran I'd seriously consider turning them down until I was sure that I could find and install firmware equal to what I have now. (or swap immediately and put the sgs on adverts to buy a new sf and pocket 200 quid!)

Didn't bother wasting my time searching because I couldn't get them for the same price!

Also everyone asking about 2.2 ROMs, I've been on seb404's de-softened r0.3 and have absolutely no complaints or issues. There are some small bugfixes in the thread, but I haven't had any of the problems they're supposed to fix so I'm either lucky or they've done something wrong!!

It doesn't offer the facebook sync thing that a lot of roms are trying (poorly it seems) to implement but I couldn't give a ****!

I think I'll probably flash Paul's tomorrow to see if there's any reason to be on that ship, but am pretty certain I'll reflash my backup and be using de-softened before dinner!

How long ago did you get it?

It's not Seb's or FLB, when the gf get's home I'll check her MCR Froyo. Not that either

If it was shipped to you longer than a week ago I'd have to assume it's the Jellyfish though because Paul has only had ROMs on the 2.6.32.9 kernel for less than a week.

edit: I think it's safe to say it's JJ but which version?? Look for posts in the JJ thread around the day it was shipped and you may get an idea of how old it is.

Right.... have discovered a major show stopper

This happens in MCR ROM 10, USB tethering, checking and unchecking this in Settings > Wireless & Networks, freezes the handset and reboots....

Have posted on Modaco forum about this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 613 ✭✭✭t0mm13b

Still no help or suggestions on getting this to work under XP... either the kernel is panic'ing as it attempts to iterate through the list of network devices and fail...

Anyone here know of a solution to USB Tethering under XP.... (not Win7 please :P)

Googling FRF91 and it says that its a Nexus 1 rom....

That's obviously a changed fingerprint used by some of the devs to get access to other goodies in the market.

Maybe even the ebay seller changed build.prop themselves to get that.

Anyway, before getting to into installing apps etc on a build that isn't easily identifiable, it may be a good time to upgrade with a full wipe to a more recent firmware. It seems the most recent releases by Paul and Kallt_Kaffe require a wipe to gain the new functionality and avoid fc's anyway.

I'm using Japanese Jellyfish and it seems fine. No problems since I installed it on Friday and as the phone is new, I've been using it quite a lot.

    What problems are you having?
