Perfect. I'd planned to test on 22 January.

Coincidence? I think not. Barry and I are basing everything we do in IP around you now.

Heh.... I kinda noticed that alright. You made the team wait til I was finished warming up to let them in, you gave me half the gym to work in, and then threw me in with them to show how it's done.

    Sometimes it's good being Hanley.

μk is how the coefficient of kinetic friction is typically denoted.

    <<Always running late, I know I should procrastinate...>>

IP Warm Up - The usual
+scap pulls ups x10 at the start of each round
+scap press outs x10 w/ 60kg BB at the end of each round

    S2[/b]

    Speed Pulls (no belt):
    60kg x8
    100kg x8
    140kg x1
    180kg 8x1

    Bulgarian Split Squats:
    40kg x5 e/s
    45kg x5 e/s
    50kg x5 e/s

Hanging Leg Raises w/ Fat Gripz:
    2x15, 1x12+3

    Bench:
    60kg x8
    80kg x8
    100kg x3
    110kg x3
    120kg 3x3 - paused

Unsupported DB Row w/ Fat Gripz:
    30kg 'bell 2x10
    25kg 'bell x10

    Plate Shifting:
    2x60 seconds

    Rolling DB Extenstions:
    17.5kg 'bells 2x12

The best part about that session was the hanging leg raises. That says it all.

I'm f*cked in half at the moment. Got < 3 hours sleep last night, was after 5 before I drifted off and my alarm woke me at 7.40am. I only survived work because of coffee.

Pulls were good, and got better.

BSS were alright... bit shaky in spots.

Grip was solid on the hanging leg raises. Second set was pretty much the limit so new third would be hard.

Benching I was just empty at that stage so I did some paused reps so I was still working but not killing myself with intensity.

Used Fat Gripz on the rows so I could keep the weight down and still actually achieve something. Everything else just isn't worth mentioning.

The only reason I haven't gone to bed now is because i'm waiting til the BK settles before putting away a litre of milky kcals.

The Fat Gripz on the Leg Raises and DB Rows.. Whats the idea behind this? To build up grip strength is it?

The Fat Gripz on the Leg Raises and DB Rows.. Whats the idea behind this? To build up grip strength is it?

    Bingo!!

I got to doing 3x15 hanging leg raises going toes to bar CF style, so made them harder with the Fat Gripz. Started with 3x8 and am now up to 15's. I'll work on going toes to bar now that I can go parallel to the floor for 15's.

With the DB Row what I normally do is a couple of sets of 12-20 with a 40kg-50kg 'bell and then do one all out set iwth 15-25kg and a Fat Gripz. Usually come in around 10-20 reps. As I said I used Fat Gripz all the way thru today so I could lighten the load and rest up a bit.

I've been using them on rolling dumbbell extensions and seated DB powercleans too recently. Basically making any exercise that isn't going to make or break the training cycle harder by adding the in for grip work.

I'm doing roll ups as well where you hand a KB from the sleeve of one of the bars by a band and twist the sleeve until it's all rolled up. Cool exercise!

Right I see.. I'll try that the next day with some of the supplemntary exercises so. This is the second case of YDIBYSHDI in one evening, take a bow! :D

Ya the roll ups are deadly for grip, forearms would be on fire.. I used to do them in my old gym, we had a more crude verison with a 5kg plate tied to a rope with a handle.

Crossfit style? WTF is that supposed to mean?

Why don't you make a video of it and post it...then in 4-8 weeks we can probably see it done crossfit style as well.

    Well I figure I can do any given exercise in 3 ways;
    1) Crossfit Style – sloppy with a swing
    2) Poliquin Style – 6 minutes of TUT for each rep
    3) Normal Style – The one where you don’t look like a epileptic on ephedrine, or a snail chasing a tortoise

So… Work it out from there.

I’m going to make an awesome montage of training stuff some day soon. We can have the open and closed chain rhythmic and non-rhythmic shoulder stabilisation drills, roll ups, some form of stupid looking quad walk, and you can sit in the background drinking coffee, looking grumpy and smoking.

<<I am heaven sent... don't you dare forget that...>>

    1 hour of strike training
-3 minute round x3 shadow boxing to warm up
-3 minute round x3 holding pads
-3 minute round x3 (1 each of jab, rights and combos)
-3 minute run x2 holding pads
-3 minute round x2 w/ partner calling punches and high intensity punch blocks

First ever time getting boxing coaching... My stance is all over the place. I'm not standing square enough... My lead foot's turning in... Not snapping my hands bck to guard fast enough... All stuff to remember and work on.

    1 hour of MMA:
-Rounds of pummeling, resisted and non resisted
-Takedowns - winner stays on. Think I got 2/3 out of about 8-10 goes here.
    -Crashing
    -Crashing and takedowns

Technically... I dunno what I need to work on the most (and f*ck off Will, I can't work on arm length). Obviously EVERYTHING needs work but I may have been doin some things better/less worse than others. Tried to integrate a bit of pummeling into the takedown match ups... was massively unsuccessful!!

Good work dude. You looked like you were doing just fine. Hope you enjoyed yourself.

I bet you burned a good few calories.

The great thing about combat sports...all of them...you never finish learning or developing...the more you train and the more you do what Barry tells you the better you'll get and the faster you'll get there.

I haven't shut up about it. Its was f*cking brilliant!!

I'm gonna have to talk to Barry about what to do. I'd be happy enough to train some form of fighting every day and just work S&C stuff around that for now to try and expedite the learning process.

I'll just do whatever he says.

    Cool.

The best bit is...the more you do...the better it feels and the better you feel about it...the more you'll want to do.

My advice...do what you are told to do. Not more or less...just do exactly what Barry tells you to do.

Yeah tbh with the take down stuff today I'd no idea what I was doing. Tried to integrate a bit of pummeling but I was concentrating more on not getting taken down than drilling that... which was probably a mistake!!

And yah I will... I don't think he believes that I'm actually going to follow thru yet tho!!

Keep it simple and practice a lot.

Dude...myself I've had 50 people tell me to my face that they wanted to fight MMA...2 of them have...don't even attempt to imagine how many people have told Barry that.

Personally...I wouldn't even think about it...fighting that is...even if you are.

I would just enjoy the process and do what Barry says...he'll let you know what you are ready for and when you were ready for it.

Yeah well if my body can handle it I'll train every day IP is open in one of the classes. I dunno where that leaves S or C stuff, but Barry's probably the one to make the call there?

Hahahaahahaha yeah I'm 100% aware of that.

I'm not coming at it as a UFC fanboy, so I don't want to "do what those lads on the tele do". I don't even watch it and have nothing other than a passing interest in the sport. Tbh I found it kinda boring to watch cos I'd no idea what was going on. Even after a couple of hours today and watching some youtube vids tonight, I've a much greater appreciation as to what goes on.

I wanna do it cos it's a challenge and something new to take on cos I'm over PL after 5 years solid of competing!! You laid out a clear path as to how I'd probably progress and I liked the way it sounded. It was either MMA or strongman, and strongman just wasn't doing it for me. It wasn't fresh enough!!

I'm more than happy to sit down and shut up when I'm doing something I know nothing about. I was happy enoguh to suggest slight variations to what I was doing on the strength days because I've a good idea what works and why, MMA tho, don't have a bog. Just did what I was told, and hopefully asked some semi-intelligent questions.

As for fighting and being ready.. I'd step up as soon as I'm told, but I'm not actively goin to try and rush it if I'm really not ready, so whatev's! Like ya said, Barry has the exp of bringing guys all the way thru so I trust his judgement!!

Anyway, talk is cheap. All I can do is put the head down (well, keep it up) and train.

Well I’ll look forward to seeing what I’m doing and where I’m going so.

As for what you’re playing at, fairly transparent tbh. Be nice to me, lure me into a false sense of security for a month, plant the MMA seed, get me to do some basic training with Barry so I don’t like like a total punching bag when you take out all your anger and frustration at being a fatty on me. Smart move!

Also… Since I’ve been lifting like 6 years or whatever and rarely get bicep DOMS, the fact I have it today after the MMA stuff yesterday means that pummelling and take down work is the best bicep exercise ever. Fact.

I suppose you already alluded to this by saying you'd more appreciation for watching it now, but my understanding at least is that "what those lads on the tele do" is (usually) show some of the best skill and fighting ability you could ever hope to achieve. I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to do that, like.
UFC fanboy doesn't really sound like a nice label I guess and I'm sure some idiots are fans, but the UFC is amazing. I'd hate to see anyone being apologetic about it all.
(Right now Will or Barry are probably thinking, "oh yeah but does dartstothesea go to local shows?", well, I have done a bit. Saw Will's most recent one too, enjoyed it all.)

Fair play on deciding to take it up anyway. God I wish I lived near IP.

You're an early contender for the biggest misunderstanding of the year award.

I have the higest levels of respect for those guys. They're amazing athletes. Strong, powerful, incredibly well conditioned and a level of mult-disciplinary skill that's mind boggling. I didn't disrepect them in any way. I don't even know how you think I did tbh.

My point was, I'm not just trainnig so I can wear tapout gear and tell people I'm a "cage fighter". I'm training because I want to compete in the sport and challenge myself against other guys. Ask Barry or Will how many people train or say they want to train MMA without serious aspirations to take it to a competitive level. They're the guys I'm talking about.
