IMO, It's a pretty boring sport to be honest. Overpriced hairdressers kicking a ball around for 90 minutes. And the way some people go on for their team, it's like they fcuking cured cancer if they won! Are you trying to fit in "with the lads" ? :)

Asking a question like that is like asking somebody why they prefer tea over coffee and vice versa but this is AH , not the soccer forum .

I used to like watching it a lot more.

Increasingly it just seems to reflect the worst about us - look at the faces of fans in the stands - angry, hateful and vicious.

I won't even start on the players.

    Or Sepp.

    Each to their own...

You don't like it, don't watch it! Don't come to AH and give out about it!

I'd have the odd bet on it but i can't stand the sport. All a lot of mates talk about so it's hard to escape it.

Soccer does not explicitly promote homosexuality, if it does at all, but in America, it is regarded as a “girly sport.” …The low-impact image of soccer makes it appear less manly and boring to the casual sports fan. In addition, the phenomenon of “diving” in soccer has only added to the “gay” image of soccer. Diving is the act of tripping over by an offensive player with little to no contact from his defender in order to win a free kick. Players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, and Arjen Robben add dramatics such as loud screams and crying which further emasculate the sport. Homosexuality has always been a controversial issue that Americans have tried to avoid, and a sport like soccer that does not appear to be “manly enough” has failed to attract attention from the US.

Don't shoot the messenger now. I have no feelings either way about anything said in the above article. I just thought it might be informative and relevant to this discussion.:)

It offers the perfect excuse to rub my crotch against aggressively heterosexual men at periodic intervals of crowd hysteria vis-à-vis goals.

I'd agree with this. Also the standard has dropped greatly in recent years imo.
Despite this it's still the most enjoyable sport to watch. There's drama, skill (for the most part), and a reasonable scoring system, not to mention the best athmosphere at any sport, once you look past the aforementioned hatefullness of some fans.

80% of the time football is absolute ****e, but when it's good that 20% of the time, it's ****ing great.

I'm just a sports fan and like watching sports - soccer however has got a little boring though I do support Arsenal so this may not be coincidental - Love watching.

Well, everyone has an opinion and yours SUCKS.

Seriously, WTF? Boring? What more do you want, cheerleaders?

And what, pray tell, classifies as a 'non boring' sport these days? Enlighten us oh wise one.

There's no right or wrong, just personal opinion.

But I enjoy soccer, both watching and playing.

It is. It's crazy to be honest, there's only been one admitted homosexual professional soccer/football player afaik and he later killed himself. Just goes to show what a terribly homophobic culture there is around the sport even in this day and age.

in fairness though, there aren't too many gay GAA players, pro golfer or alpine skiers either.

I like soccer but large parts of the game are pretty boring because its so low scoring. Thats why it will never take off fully in America
