    I just wanna say thanks a bunch chaps! And yes that is sarcasm, because of all your blatant high 5 video uploads of great kill streaks and funny happenings, I'm now going to have to get a new PC. MW1 is the limit of what my trusty P4 can take, and I missed the MW2 buzz, but the marketing people got there stuff together when it came to Black Ops.

    As a COD2 veteran, I'm old school, but am gonna take a bit of learning to get to grips with the new gameplay. Expect a 'Budget Gaming PC for €600' thread in the building and upgrading forum anyday now ;).

    new poster here. only bought an xbox 2 years ago specifically because i wanted to play MW, i'd played it in a mates house and got seriously hooked. MW2 came out and that was my first mutiplayer game.

    really looking forward to getting black-ops tomorrow and getting my gold account back working (after some credit card difficulties:o) - gonna be a nice weekend!!

    need i ask what black ops is like? hearing mixed reports, so what the experts say!?

    As you pointed out, it's a mixed bag alright. Personally speaking, I enjoyed the more simple aspects of the game that have been brought back by Treyarch. There's more a sense of a actual gun fight then just a lot of explosions which was the case for Modern Warfare 2, in essence it was a Michael Bay movie. In Black Ops the better the player you are, the better you'll do. Simple as that. There's no real disadvantages excluding connection related issues which are causing havoc at times(more so for others) and will always be a problem unless we all move to Japan(lucky so and so's with the perfect connections :D). In MW2 I felt by using one of the many cheap and negative tactics littered throughout game it was possible for average players to do well too. So again, I'm glad it's gone down the FPS route, after all it's an FPS game!

    No point in repeating what Ade said, so I'll just add to it.
    • Wager matches. Epic fun if you have a party of 6 going.
    • Theatre mode. Handy for us cheapos who can't/won't buy a HD PVR
    • Zombies. Nice distraction from SP and MP
    • Customization. Gives a custom class the real feeling that it's yours.
    Done. :D

    Can't recommend enough doing "Combat Mode", you'll find it under the "Switch lobby" option in the multiplayer menu.

    It's really handy for getting a grasp with (all) the new guns, maps and mechanics of the game. It even lets you put your friend's names on the dummy's (6v6 in TDM etc) :D

    Às Lee said, Combat mode is dead handy for anyone starting out.

    I'm very experienced when it comes to this game but I always intended to do combat training first(after I finished the campaign) as well as a private matches on all the maps instead of jumping in from the off. I do this just to get a overall feeling for the maps and seeing where choke points are, grenade spots(namely where grenades can be thrown within the first few seconds in the attempt to a multi-kill) and also to see where the objectives are placed(ie: where the flags or bomb sites are, is it easily defendable and to attack, etc.. I probably take it to the extreme :p but no harm in just going for a quick walk about on your own as some of the maps are bigger in previous COD games.

    I think someone told me that you can try out all the guns in the offline mulitplayer so it might be worth a look at also.

    I'm a newbie to call of duty, never really cared for the other games (don't hit me! They just weren't my cuppa tea hides copy of bad company) but Black Ops really won me over. Been playing a lot of online, but intend to play the story mode sooner or later....

    I've posted a bit so I'll intro myself.

    I'm raze, first cod game only purchased it since most my mates were, it's fun. Terrible k/d ratio think it's around the .7 or .8 mark probably due to my killstreaks only starting at the cobra. Can be found roasting marshmallows over a fire singing a tune with my trusty fn fal.

    There's a good few Pc guys on here, they run their own servers aswell. Cherryghost did a few commentaries a while back, (their tags are down the bottom of the list :p).
