Neither am I. Most of those flavoured Badger beers are awful. Poacher's Choice is the least-worst of them, IMO.

You mean they get worse than that!!!???

Tried this for the first time last night, absolutely delicious stronger version of their stout, much more chocolatey and rich, have to say is one of the nicest stouts I ever tasted, A+, this and their IPA are world class, the best Irish brewers by a mile.

You've been through all 16, yeah?

I think so, ones that are generally available in off licenses and pubs anyway. Galway Hooker is my favorite individual drink but for an Irish brewer who does both stout and pale ales I haven't came across better. If you know any better I'd be happy to try them if I haven't already.

Got a bottle of Courage Directors ale . The description on the bottle sold me.

    "Courage Directors - A.B.V. 4.8%
A traditional premium ale. Full bodied, burnt, fruity, malty with adistinctive dry hop spicy, fruit peel, resinous character. This beer has a moderate sweet flavour and balanced bitterness. The hop flavours andbitternes contribute to the lingering after-taste"

Well it may have all of the above but as in a hint of everything mentioned on the label. It's not too strong but just lacks a punch.

Picked up a bottle of Sierra Nevada Northern Hemisphere Harvest and Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA last night.

Really looking forward to giving them a go tonight.

Never got around to trying the Harvest but the Dogfish Head was great. Really enjoyed it, nice and hoppy and very easy to drink. I've found myself another favourite :D

Was in Waterford at the weekend so swung by World Wide Wines for my ration of Dog Fish Head 90' IPA and picked up some Dog Fish Head Indian Brown Ale.
Tried this last night - a very well made brown ale, Id recommend it but it's not a patch on the 90' which must be one of my favourite beers at the moment - but very expensive!

The 60 Minute is very nice - I remember the first time I tried it my initial reaction was that it was good, but not necessarily something I'd find myself getting a craving for. Obviously, I've had a craving for it for the last few weeks now :D

Haven't tried the 90 Minute as yet.

Thwaites Very Nutty Black , started of with a nice pleasant taste but kinda fizzled out. Was expecting alot more from this.
With "export strength" wrote on the bottom I was expecting alot more umpf but sadly lacked this.

Picked up a selection from The Odell Brewing Company.
Beautiful looking bottles, here's hoping that they taste as good as they look.

Also got some St Bernardus Christmas Ale.

    Will report.

Having a Chimay Bleu as I type, straight from the wine fridge, at 12degrees - perfect.
The bleu is a classic for me - a staple if you like.
I MUCH prefer it to the rouge too, which I really don't get...

    A great beer, mmmmmmm

Tasted the Cut Throat Porter last night.
Very nice full coffee and chocolate flavoured porter without a high alcohol hit (4.8%).
    I like.:p

The Weihenstephaner is a really nice brew. I also had a Valentins last night, which was ok and a Erdinger Oktoberfeat at the weekend which I felt was distinctly different from the 'normal' stuff.

I am getting in to the wheat beers and so I am open to recommendations.

The Schnieder ones are excellent, and the house Weiss at Messrs Maguire isn't half bad.

Anything to recommend in the Bull and Castle from a wheat beer perspective?

I'd say they'd have Schneider in the fridge.

Also Maisel's Weisse is a good one. They did have Schneider in the fridge as of Friday night.
B&C also has our own Curium which is not too good in the bottle but on tap it is not bad at all, though certainly not German style.

Yeah seen it there last week. Think it said Tap2 on the top of the label ?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 12,123 Mod ✭✭✭✭BeerNut

Tap 2 is the Kristall. It's nice in its own way: very clovey. Original Schneider-Weisse is Tap 7.

4, 5 and 6 are the really good strong ones: Edelweisse, Hopfenweisse and Aventinus, respectively.

Yeah I liked the Tap 2 one last week after coming in from the cold so did the job.

Had a bottle of Rocking Rudolph ale (Greene King). Kind of a Christmasy taste to it but I didn't enjoy the fruityness very much.

The bottle of Jamaican Dragon Stout was terrible, the taste of alcohol was just far to strong(7%) on it and I'm not generally turned off by strong beers, I didn't finish it anyway.

Off to my local offy now to see what they've got to end the college semester in tastyness. :D

The Odell IPA was also excellent.
I think I like this brewery a lot!
    Anyone else try these beers?
