STB where / how can I get the HD system you mentioned? Also how does this system work if you've 3 TVs. At the moment we've 3 tvs and therefore 3 decoders with UPC and am frankly feeling very ripped off! Thanks

    satellite.ie

One dish would serve up to four receivers. A dish will cost €49 in power city (if you dont have a dish already).

But if you want different stations in each of the three rooms then you need three receivers. Buy them bit by bit. A box will cost you €169 euros.

See satellite.ie. Ferguson Ariva HD Combo.

You will get stations you never recived with UPC. And remember these costs are once off costs as opposed to mothly subscription costs. Oh yeah and its all legal.

The old NTL MMDS area have pvr's as they are DVB-C .
Chorus MMDS is DVB-T and there are no pvr's for that format.
Of course UPC dont tell you that on their website .
I know of a good few people who signed up to UPC after being promised they could get a pvr box but they were ultimately misinformed.

These are the new prices for your pack from 4 January 2010 - http://www.upc.ie/about_us/pricenotice/

4 January 2011 surely? Upc, if you're going to sneakly rip us off, at least get your facts right.
Continued use of the services after this date is deemed to be acceptance of the changes.

Surely, just placing this as a link on their website is not sufficient in this regard? They have made no attempt to inform me of this change in price. I find it very hard to believe that they can change the terms of our contract without informing me in writing..

As stated previously, its a serious price increase for those on the lower tier broadband.

How are they justifying the price increase? Is it because of the launch of the (up to?) 100mb speeds & they need to quickly recoup the cost & are there any more discussions regarding HD channels coming we don't know about yet?

    RTE is free via aerial.

Sneaky shower. It's not just the increases. It's the way they've structured it, so if you were on their 15MB broadband and were thinking of downgrading to 8MB they've made it not worth your while now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 856 ✭✭✭rebeve

Rang them today ,tried to go from 8mb to 5 .Told it is not available . Time to on me thinks . I asked why the large increase ,got no answer .

They want people to come off the Lower B/Band and analogue TV.

From speaking to a friend of mine in UPC, you would be correct in that they want people off the analogue package, they want to put the bandwidth to better use.

Any idea when they're going to give up the analogue service?

They know they're upping the price on broadband in January, yet still show the current prices on the website.
I hope they tell the new customers between now and January what's ahead of them...

Did anyone notice how the broadband services have an asterisk beside them saying that changes will be made to the services so a name change will appear on the bill? Speed upgrade maybe?

Wa&^$rs. They only give us Setanta HD and they charge us an extra fiver!

Hi just a couple of questions on this. Not all products I have with UPC seem to have been increased (30mb BB?). Would I be able to cancel my whole contract with them? Or only those elements where there is a price change? (phone and tv)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,237 ✭✭✭✭djimi

I think once their T&Cs change at all you have 30 days to which you can essentially not accept the new T&Cs by cancelling your contract. As far as I know this is irrespective of what products you actually have, but you might want to confirm that with them.

They bill on the 20th for everyone, UPC:Jason told me when I got my first bill.
I might just wait and see on this, as I'll still have a few days to switch package or cancel.

I'm in an ex NTL area in the West. You are possibly in an ex Chorus area, if they are telling its not available.

Zardoz is correct in his assessment.

UPC's Small Print as the call it states the following:
    Quote:
    16. Changing the Terms and Conditions We retain the right to amend, modify or substitute these Terms and Conditions at any time and we will notify you in writing 30 days in advance of doing so.

My emphasis. They never directly notify people in 30 days.

umm sneaky, had MMDS for about 10yrs so I guess I wont be getting PVRs anytime soon so!!! (in a Chorus Area!)

Don't know if I'm being fed a line, but I was just on to exercise my right under section 17 & they said I can't cancel without penalty until the contract has changed (right now it hasn't). She also said they may be revising the amount of increase because of feedback from customers.

Dont forget they charge you with a €10 downgrade fee.. Just after coming off the phone to them there asking about downgrading my 15mb and Digital Max tv package. She quoted me the prices for today and i had to ask her about price increases in Jan, she said 'oh ye' that would change your subscription price

get the feeling she was hoping it wouldnt come up!

    Its not worth downgrading 15mb - 8mb

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,147 ✭✭✭gar

    just canceled the acc!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,014 ✭✭✭elderlemon

They can't charge a downgrade fee when its UPC that are changing the t&C's. That would not stand up in court. Ok when all things are equal and I decide half way through the year and downgrade and the fee applies.

UPC appear to be more out of touch than our politicians.

    Quite an achievement.

i just emailed them, you can cancel / change your service without penalty (as per section 11 of the NCA rights), so their ultimatum is that you can cancel or accept it.

That's of course if you are lucky enough to find out about the price increase!

Its very muddled - I don't have tv with upc, just 15mb broadband and freetime world phone - can't work out what the price increase is!

Is the standalone fee gone? - because i think this charge is ridiculous! - I can't watch their dreadful over compressed muck!

Can anyone work out the price differences?

I just had my aunt, parents and granny subscribe to their services though and I cant work out what the prices will be:

my aunt has freetime phone, 5mb broadband and digital max / select

my parents have basic digital 15mb broadband and anytime world

my granny has digital max, 5mb broadband and anytime world

any ideas on what their prices are - I am afraid to ring upc because each time i do they seem to add a 30euro activation fee to my account!!

I think i will just have them all cancel the lot! - at least sky have the decency to send a letter to let u know what they will be charging!
