totally agree, there a total joke, they must be living in an alternate universe where they taught the budget was the exact opposite of what happened.

To Quote the bottom of the webpage:

UPC’s Broadband and Phone services remain excellent value, however under the terms of your contract you have the right to cancel or downgrade your service within 30 days of 3 December 2010 without penalty if you do not agree with these price changes. Continued use of the services after this date is deemed to be acceptance of the changes.

I guess I know what I'll be doing...

Great another price increase from UPC for providing the same standard of service !
A like their term "price change" :( everything is increased so it a fricking "Price Increase" were all not dumb !!
This year they increased the standalone charge, already so they are making enough money from us.

And I like the way its nicely hidden on their webpage, I dont even have a message when I logged into My UPC, My Bill

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,237 ✭✭✭✭djimi

It annoys me how they can send me out a text message to tell me that my bill is due to be paid, but not to warn me of price increases. If I hadnt read it on here Id probably not have known.

God...that's annoying to say the least.....they picked a good week to do it too....gangsters.

I was thinking of downgrading my BB from 15m/b to 8m/b....the 8m/b is moving up from €25 to €32.....that's some increase there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,092 ✭✭✭celticbest

    what??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,144 ✭✭✭mollser

Sweet f**kin Jesus - my bill will go from €58.75 (digital max + 8mg Broadband) to €67?? a 14% hike? What planet are these idiots living on?

OMG - actually can't believe that. Freesat is getting ever closer...

Just noticed a quick fix, will drop broadband down to 5mg, eircom are probably competitive at that price though, no idea. Where the hell did 5 and 1mg broadband come from?

Absolute joke, will let them know.

That is also rather sneaky, as most people won't realise until they are billed in January.

So annoying, for me it's that downgrade clause. I was only asking about waiving a downgrade fee for something last week. Got into a pickle over it, now they release this allowing us to downgrade for free. UPC haven't a clue any more. They are getting worse.

I presume the analogue TV service will be going up in price as well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,386 ✭✭✭Eire Go Brach

Think I might just cancel for saorview.

If I cancel my upc cable tv sub. and keep my BB. Is it true that they can't stop the basic analogue tv channels coming through?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,864 ✭✭✭Infoanon

Could UPC make it more difficult to follow these increases ?

Once again their disregard for their customers shines through.

UPC's website is rubbish to be honest.
Its completely geared towards cabled areas and is extremely misleading for people in MMDS regions who cant get
    a)HD
    b)Pvr
    c)Approximately 60 channels
They dont even list prices for MMDS areas.

I'm in a mmds area and I have 2 pvrs that have worked perfectly so far. And they do list the prices down near the end of the page. I'm not defending UPC for a moment - I'll be on to them looking for a deal from them to keep me as a customer. Only this morning I had a call from Sky wondering would I be interested in going back to them. I fobbed him off till next August, when my contract is up with UPC.I'm regretting not having known about this increase, as I might have squeezed a decent deal fro Sky.:confused::(

I really don't get this, it'll only be €2 per month cheaper than the 15Mb service. At the moment I'm paying €32.75 but now it'll be €39.75, unless the standalone charge goes up too?

I had the 5mb broadband & upgraded to 8mb a few months ago. Now I want to downgrade back to 5mb... eh no say UPC (after asking supervisor). Once you upgrade from 5mb you can no longer revert to the 5mb as it will no longer available & is discontinued.

I only recieved an increase of 1.25 to 86.25 which I'm pretty happy with tbh. I feel its still pretty good value but some of the lower priced packages have been increased by extortionate levels.

    hi guys,

I have 15 mb broadband and the basic digital channels with the grey box(that i should throw against the wall piece of crap) - i pay 59 euro.

I want to keep the Broadband its good. the channels are crap. If i mix the BB with Sky TV is there a good package that comes in cheaper?

    Hi,

After I got a letter about going over my download limit, by 4%, for the first time I was ready to jump but I'm on the 30Mb and see no increase in their price.

I have started a nice email thread with them over the lack of ability to monitor my downloads and they are not too happy about it, maybe Mr ComReg will be getting involved.

Overall having 2 x HD connections, phone & 30 Mb I'm reasonably happy, would be very happy had I not got that cold computer generated stupid letter:mad::mad::mad:

I know the prices are going up but I pay €70 per month for the 15MB BB, Basic TV and Phone bundle but I've noticed that for the same price I could get the same bundle but with 30MB BB. I know there is only an option to cancel or down grade so how long would it take me to cancel then get the better package?

if enough people email, ring them and inform them that they will cancel their subscription as a result of theis price hike they may well live to regret ever putting them up in the 1st place.

    time to leave them.

    satellite.ie

One dish would serve up to four receivers. A dish will cost €49 in power city (if you dont have a dish already).

But if you want different stations in each of the three rooms then you need three receivers. Buy them bit by bit. A box will cost you €169 euros.

See satellite.ie. Ferguson Ariva HD Combo.

You will get stations you never recived with UPC. And remember these costs are once off costs as opposed to mothly subscription costs. Oh yeah and its all legal.

The old NTL MMDS area have pvr's as they are DVB-C .
Chorus MMDS is DVB-T and there are no pvr's for that format.
Of course UPC dont tell you that on their website .
I know of a good few people who signed up to UPC after being promised they could get a pvr box but they were ultimately misinformed.

These are the new prices for your pack from 4 January 2010 - http://www.upc.ie/about_us/pricenotice/

4 January 2011 surely? Upc, if you're going to sneakly rip us off, at least get your facts right.
Continued use of the services after this date is deemed to be acceptance of the changes.

Surely, just placing this as a link on their website is not sufficient in this regard? They have made no attempt to inform me of this change in price. I find it very hard to believe that they can change the terms of our contract without informing me in writing..

As stated previously, its a serious price increase for those on the lower tier broadband.

How are they justifying the price increase? Is it because of the launch of the (up to?) 100mb speeds & they need to quickly recoup the cost & are there any more discussions regarding HD channels coming we don't know about yet?

Sneaky shower. It's not just the increases. It's the way they've structured it, so if you were on their 15MB broadband and were thinking of downgrading to 8MB they've made it not worth your while now.

They know they're upping the price on broadband in January, yet still show the current prices on the website.
I hope they tell the new customers between now and January what's ahead of them...

Hi just a couple of questions on this. Not all products I have with UPC seem to have been increased (30mb BB?). Would I be able to cancel my whole contract with them? Or only those elements where there is a price change? (phone and tv)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,237 ✭✭✭✭djimi

I think once their T&Cs change at all you have 30 days to which you can essentially not accept the new T&Cs by cancelling your contract. As far as I know this is irrespective of what products you actually have, but you might want to confirm that with them.

They bill on the 20th for everyone, UPC:Jason told me when I got my first bill.
I might just wait and see on this, as I'll still have a few days to switch package or cancel.

UPC's Small Print as the call it states the following:
    Quote:
    16. Changing the Terms and Conditions We retain the right to amend, modify or substitute these Terms and Conditions at any time and we will notify you in writing 30 days in advance of doing so.

My emphasis. They never directly notify people in 30 days.
