Happy Birthday C&H! 2 years it's been going now (well, 2 years and a day:P) and still going strong.

I haven't been posting as much lately, but something I noticed a while ago seems to still be going on... does Maths have to infiltrate every* topic on the forum?

I get that it's a mutual interest for a good few of the posters, but they have their own whole thread for it. I can't be the only one with a sheer ignorance/general disinterest of Mersenne numbers...

(No offence to the Mathsy types, I'm sure you'd find my topic of study stupendously boring. Different strokes.)

    *gross exaggeration

Normally I'd disagree, but tbh this has come up before and that's the reason there's now the thread for people who think they're geniuses, it just gets overlooked a lot.

I think the real problem (of which I'm admittedly partially responsible) is what happens when people steer non-mathsy, or only slightly mathsy topics, into maths.
I guess it's just a lot more natural to respond in thread than to start cross-quoting, should probably work on this.

tl;dr: OMG goys start postin' in mah thread >.>

    Your thread? >.<

Please do start posting though, people. If we can derail enough other threads to make people complain, we should be able to sustain some kind of discussion in the dedicated thread!

But if people don't want to talk about it in there, why should it be forced upon them in other threads?

You didn't understand what I said. I agreed that it should be kept to as low a level as possible in other threads.

As Randy probably linked to, it's actually the opposite that believed! :p
Well, if you're into that kind of thing.

I don't think the maths discussion is any worse than the sports chat or the X-Factor talk. They all have dedicated threads, but occasionally mentioning them elsewhere shouldn't be too upsetting. If it does turn into a full conversation, I'm sure Ginja Ninja wouldn't mind using his new powers to move them to their proper homes (if ye ask him nicely ;) )

It is, the sports and x-factor discussion are contained in their own threads. The maths discussion can take place in about three threads. The genius thread is a basically a maths discussion thread.

X-Factor has come up in The Den, Yaaaaaaaaaahhhh, Aaaaarrrggghhh, What Films/TV Are You Watching, Celebrity Crushes, Pet Hates and Soundtrack To Your Angst.

Stuff about the GAA (and GAA players) has comes up frequently in all of those too, apart from the Soundtrack thread.

I never got complaints about those though, because they're "popular" pursuits.

    Next move is yours.

I don't see anything catastrophical wrong with the maths talk, I don't understand half of it either but in the Jizzler nominations it was kinda humourus cause they were all fighting for the nerd thing after QoL posted about it, remember? As long as it doesn't get madly out of control like, 'tis grand.

Anyway, happy C&H, you ole forum you. Goochy goochy gooooo!

IO the problem was when we even talked about sports in the Den. One of the maths people would always say "take it to the sports thread".

Also that is when I posted frequently here but recently I have been put off this forum for a variety of reasons.

You've said that so many times now in the last two years. I have to ask this, and I hope you don't take it the wrong way. If you have so many problems with this forum, why do you keep coming back?

Without getting into an argument. First off. I only started posting here this year.

Secondly, I taught after I did the 2 month ban. The would have changed but they didn't. It got worse, the IRC is still destroying this forum. The Jizzlers are a bit of fun but they don't have any meaning because all nominations are generally based on groups that have formed in the IRC.

TBH, if I had my way I would close this forum and replace it with the IRC because this forum has been destroyed.

tbh my main problem with the forum now is people complaining about subjects they don't like being discussed.
You can't expect people to avoid talking about anything in the general discussion threads without first ensuring EVERYONE also likes it.
Yeah there are threads for these things, but tbh I don't like that every time some conversation about a subject starts it immediately turns to "take it to X" or "go and start a thread for it", just lighten up, and talk about something else, or wait for it to end.
If it really goes over the top or is ongoing maybe suggest (without getting pissed off or over-dramatic) that it moves on.

Also yes, I'm aware I (and others) were pretty outspoken about disliking personal conversations going on in the Den, so I'll clarify why I think that's a different situation.
When a conversation starts about Sport, a TV show, or Maths, people can and do join in on the conversation if they happen to be interested, and it might interest people other than the posters (not everyone, but some people).
Conversely when personal conversations start up they don't apply to anyone but the people involved, and a public forum isn't really the place for it.

Oh my God, I'm sick of all the Jumpguy discussion in the Jizzler's nomination thread. Can't we just have a dedicated Jumpguy thread? Gaaaawd.

Seriously, can people not just scan quickly over stuff which doesn't appeal to them?

I find it works very well for me.

I've often said it elsewhere on Boards ... what this world needs is far less tolerance for the big stuff like corruption and inequity and hunger and greed, and far more tolerance for the day-to-day stuff which niggles us about our friends and neighbours.

And I'm broadcasting that thought out to all of you, not just in One Direction! *

*Included specially for Soccy and Deise

Ah now, you're saying that stuff about nominations coming from groups from the channel, but that is a silly assumption at best. How do you know who even frequents the channel at this point? You can't claim to know the dynamic of a place when you're not there.

You do realise that the forum and the channel don't have any official ties? Surely that means your feedback should be on the forum, and not a place/people you have issues with which isn't a part of said forum?

I'm getting tired of the channel being blamed for every little thing that goes on here. It's not, guys. People are to blame, not some silly place we go to have a laugh now and again. It has very little traffic, so how exactly could it be causing all this trouble?

    Oh IRC hate again.

unknown, since you can't enter IRC due to a ban, you're probably unaware of this BUT:

IRC is fairly dead and has been since late Summer. There are only 5-6 posters who even use it anymore - and I'm not talking about regularly here, I'm talking at all! A night of continued conversation is very, very rare these days.

Now that's been said several times before (and yes, since you returned to posting here) so hopefully this time the message will get through :)

IRC is doing pretty much NOTHING to C&H these days and hasn't for months. There may be problems with C&H, I'm not denying that and look, if it's not for you, it's not for you. I'm talking to everyone here.

    That is all.
