Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Your still way above me, im around 840-860.
Passed everything but personally dont think I will hear anything unless 50-50 is continued after march. Would be handy if there were two merit lists, at least I would know exactly where I stand.

I would not be so sure on that gigity! I'm an RC in top 80, but as I have not cleared vetting yet it means nout... I'm getting looked over on all the intakes. Sitting with vetting and medical cleared is a much better position to be in at present - more so than merit number! So you never know, you might just get a call in January...

I got the progressing one. I assume you got same?

  • Registered Users Posts: 228 ✭✭1986j

Yeah one that said in final stages don't contact us.

Others got the 'Unsure until March'. The final one was 'you passed but sorry'.

I feel very luck to get my letter. Maybe less RC's are applying due to the last years event's.

Thats correct - perhaps with the weather maybe 1 or 2 lucky folks may get a pack tomorrow but if not then it's back to waiting I reckon.

To all those who got the call for the next intake, WELL DONE. Welcome to the best thing you will ever do in your life. I am just finished my first week in the Hotel and it was awesome. I have been lucky to be in a really great squad and we all seem to get on really well. And this is the best piece of advice ( based on my small experience) try to get on with the rest of the squad. If you sit in your room moping around and not talking to anyone then you will quickly start to hate G,ville. You are all going to be living together for a month and spending most of the rest of the next six with each other. I know for a fact if I didn't I would not be going back next week.
You will have a ball. This is the best job in the world and you will enjoy every minute of it. We in the reds (Reds Rule) will try to scare you with stories of show parades and all sorts of scary things. Take it all in your stride we are going through the same stories now from the courses ahead of us. Don't be afraid to come and talk to us we are all nice and won't bite you (well most of us).

Looking forward to seeing you all on your induction day.

PS Be on time for everything, and men shave every day ;)

Contgrats ... so far this is the happiest thread I have seen on Boards coming out of Ireland for a while.

    Well done you guys.

First week down, twenty to go! Listen to the good advice on the forum, but don't let things scare you. I was a little worried after being told how hard intake Sunday was going to be, but actually found it very enjoyable. To an extent, you have to sit back and let the whole thing wash over you.

If you're a little older than some of the sergeants or trainers, you need to accept that you need to take their word as gospel and don't answer back; some people can find authority difficult, but you really need to learn to live with it at Garnerville.

Bring plenty of thermals as its bloody freezing out on the parade square; the drill staff will be there to warm you up. The rooms are depressingly awful but it's all part of the experience.

Well done to everyone who has got or will get the call for January, Garnerville is what you make of it and personally I'm having a great time!

    Congratulations - what do you mean by '' a re-call '' ?

So I stopped looking at this forum ages ago, so long ago that I don't recognise half you folk! I kept getting just average marks in the assessment process and was getting depressed quite frankly seeing everyone getting their callups.

So I just decided to plug on and see what happens, did ok in this years tests, and lo and behold I got vetting forms for the first time, then a medical letter landed on the doorstep. I was excited but wary from previous failures. Then it all stops with the freeze, bitterly disappointed, I effectively gave up as I knew that there were probably hundreds of people at least ahead of me in the queue so to speak.

So I resign myself to the fact that I will have to stay at my job and start looking for other opportunities, maybe there's other career paths out there....

And then a big brown envelope drops on the floor ;)

So it's taken a long time but for anyone who's still waiting, don't lose hope, the whole process is convoluted and awkward and goodness knows how things get organised at the end of the day, but you still might get that call out of the blue. :D

When did you get the call Mr Anderson? Are you still at G'ville? Any advice for us new recruits?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 64 ✭✭MrAnderson

No no, the big brown envelope only dropped at the weekend there :D

I'm in the same position as you guys now, totally out of the blue....

    And I'm so flamin excited!!!

I got a "Dear John" in January 2008 from C13. But then in the summer just past, I received a phone call asking if I would be willing to re-sit medical and re-submit vetting............
Scraping the bottom of the barrel?? :p

no, I'm not in the present campaign, I applied again in 2008, but then secured what I thought was a "job for life" with good prospects so I withdrew...

I have been appointed on my score from c13......

I don't know.... I never made any inquiry regarding my actual merit placing, though my AC score was in the high 50's if I remember rightly....
Sorry, guess that's not much help to you??!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 228 ✭✭1986j

That is a very decent merit score indeed. Not surprised at all that you got in.

Thanks delancey42 for getting me that number. phoned them up and found i am late 200's on the merit list. have you heard of any non rc getting in from this position? tad disheartened to say the least! i only received vetting forms late nov, so even if they race through vetting i would surely miss out on this years intakes, as they told me today that end of feb would be last possible intake due to change in 50;50 recruitment. why do they give us false hope?

Guess if they told you that today, it confirms what we all dont really want to hear. Who knows what will happen come the end of february now :(

I'm just waiting on my vetting to clear and I hope it does in time to make the intake before the end of february:confused:

Thats a good merit score to get , read nothing into the speeed ( or lack of it ) with which you got vetting / medical. I would think you are in a good position , oh and welcome to the forum.....;)

Main advice I have heard is wear a suit and be on time..... others have suggested that you avoid being the one the trainers will talk about after everyone has gone home - I'm sure you know what I mean ;)

I suggest (having no experience though) be polite and friendly. If asked to contribute do so. Don't have any wild or strong opinions/beliefs/ideas etc

Smile and do not try to be the cocky loudmouth trying to elicit a laugh. Also noone likes a know-it-all.

I have no experience just some common sense perhaps.

I have attended an induction day in Hotel G'ville as a guest with a close friend of mine, the evening goes sooooo fast for both your guest and as a new recruit. What i remember is your all bundled into the main hall by the smiling, friendly squads who are currently in training. then you are seperated from your family, your family are taken to a lecture theater for a talking too about your new career and how you will be going through an intensive training programme and for family members to be mindful of this and to give necessary support and not to burden you with stuff during your training as your primary focus is to get through your training etc etc etc. security is also discussed amongst a few other topics.

The new recruit is brought off else where, possible split into your classes, you too are given a talking to and you are fitted for your uniform.

As far as I remember there is a cup of tea and a biscuit thrown in there somewhere also.

Just remember everyone is in the same boat and majority of the new recruits will be bricking it. Just be yourself, turn out neat & tidy. Don't be afraid to say hello to your new colleagues, they might be strangers on induction day but they will soon become your support system within the gates of hotel G'ville for the next few months. Most importantly dont judge, accept your new colleagues for who they are, warts and all, everyone is human and we all have our faults. If you have any questions dont be afraid to ask because i guarantee you that a number of other new recruits will have wanted to ask the same question but are to afraid to ask.

Good luck with induction day, relax & enjoy wink.gif
