Have some bottles of Leffe lined up for the weekend, nice!

Forget I had the Blue Frog IPA so decided to open this tonight.
Well it's not what I expected. Itx like a light American IPA. Nothing wrong with it but expecting a bigger hop hit.

For anyone who like a slight hop hit this would be perfect,

In my opinion I would go out and try different beers every week to see what you like.
To me the Chimay is very nice also but maybe try the Hobgoblin in Dunes for 1.99 , the OSH which I think they have also for 1.99.

A nice dark selection last night:

Santa's Butt (silly name, very good winter porter - 6% 4 for €10 Bradley's, Cork)

Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout (flirts between 'way too much' and 'Fantastic' 10%)

Trappiste Rochefort 8 (8.2% old reliable but should have drunk it before the Brooklyn!)

    All great:D

I had sierra nevada tumbler on tap at the bull and castle last night. Very enjoyable but expensive at €6. Still it is a rare seasonal beer so worth the premium and heard its better on tap.

Might nip in there tonight and have a go. as for Brooklyn I love it
The Asahi I got the other week wasnt what I was expecting slightly dissapointed I have to say.

Okocim Mocne on the other hand was great and a 7.2 percent had me on nurofen this morning

Chimay Bleu (magic), Duvel (also magic), and shortly an Ohara's red. Too much good beer in one night? Is there such a thing?

Superquinn, you have redeemed yourself slightly..

There used to be one attached to The Greyhound pub in Blanch. Closed when the Greyhound closed. Funnily enough it was there I got my 1st "strange" beer.

Cajoled into the Harvey Nichols cocktail bar recently. I guess I've dragged my GF into enough grungey bars, so it's probbaly fair enough.

Couple of good rum-based drinks on the menu using 12 yrs aged Appleton Estate. €10 a go, but to be honest you could pay that in a rubbish bar for something that's put together in a half-assed way with a carton of milk, ancient liquers, some smirnoff and a few chunks of ice from a bucket... at least here they did appear to take their time and get it right, using decent ingredients.

Also had a few beers over a curry in Ananda last night- their value menu still the best ethnic food deal in town, IMO, considering the quality and service. A choice of Cobra or Tiger - I'll always opt for the former.

Last thing I drank was a bottle of Dungarvan Helvic Blond - consistently drinkable. Looking forward to visiting the brewery in January hopefully.

Thanks , i was only a young lad when i left dublin. I have great memories of my parents getting there shopping in superquinn and the going for a drink in the greyhound or to the pub across the road from sams barbers , probably not exactly the right place for a child but fond memories nonetheless. Sad to hear its shut down

You do knoe Cobra was made by a very well known brewery in England for the market in India untill a take over by Cooors and then the recipie was and still is held "Hostage"

Nope, didn't know that at all- I must read up on the history.

Just prefer it with food over Tiger TBH.

Staff party tonight and I'm forcing everyone to go to a Wetherspoons in Derry for the pre-drinks so that I can get some pints of cask ale. (got a heap of £1.50 vouchers too) :D

Budels Honing : honey beer but not too sweet and light malty taste.
Nice as a 1 off as not a sweet beer tasting person.

Just had a bottle of Legbiter from Strangford Lough Brewing Company. More a fruity bitter than the strong golden ale that it's billed as, to me. They suggest it has citrus bite and a nose of lavender, but to be honest I got more of a whiff of aged apple off it - Fine at first, but unpleasant after a bit. This is not the worst beer I've ever had, but something is awry with it. Certainly compares unfavourably with some other products from up north.

The fact that it is 'brewed in the EU' - reading back I see Beernut says that they ship a 'concentrate' abroad for brewing.
Their website says their barley is malted and brewed in Co. Down and then shipped for 'reconstitution' for the consumer. Doesn't strike me as ideal- perhaps this is the root of the problem.

Also got a bottle of Brooklyn No. 1 to split with my GF over dinner. Looking forward to trying this one.

The beer should help you through the break-up.

    Oh, wait...

Got to sample a few new beers at the Food and Wine show in the RDS at the weekend.
A lovely malty Porter from Trouble Brewing. Messrs Maguires American Pale Ale, and a quick half of Messers wet hopped ale on cask in their brewery bar. All worth seeking out.

    Last night-

    1. Brunehaut Blond - Belgian organic beer ... 6.5%. Thought this was fantastic, actually. Genuinely one of the best abbey style beers I've had in years. Very refreshing, not as heavy on the alcohol as some of the more common offerings.

    2. Svyturs Baltas - Interesting-looking unfiltered wheat beer. Turned out to be not very interesting at all, unfortunately.

    3. Afflingen - Another abbey style beer, again, quite good.

Any word of when/where (in relation to Trouble Brewing, obviously the Messrs beers will be in there) we might be seeing these available?

Dark Arts currently on tap in L. Mulligan Grocer, the Bull & Castle and (I think) Against the Grain. Definitely the first two anyway.

The all-Irish wet-hopped beer is badged as Emerald in MM. Downstairs doesn't open until 5, but the upstairs bar staff will get you a pint from the cask if you ask.

Edit from the bar counter in AtG: Just the first two.

    BUZZARD DARK ALE tonight.
Strange nutty malty taste. Slightly dry and hardly anyhead or carbonation.
I actually thought the bottle had been opened already the lack of zzizt when opening and pouring.

Accidently I knocked over the bottle so lost half it on the kitchen worktop !

Don't think I willbe rushing back to this one.

Ahh: bottle conditioning. A CAMRA beardy would patronisingly point out that that's how beer is supposed to be and your ignorance is based on all the fizzy burp-water you've been drinking.

Though half the time with bottle conditioned UK ales you end up with half a glass of foam

tried some delerium nocturnum this week, bit heavy to be drinking many of them but nice if you're relaxing with just the one.

Would they count Old Speckled Hen as fizzy burp water ? Reason I ask is I remember drinking it sometimes thinking it was a tad too fizzy.
