If you're going to attempt to be condescending you should have an argument to back it up.
Otherwise you just look a bit silly.

In which case they'd be well informed, it's the government tax. End of really.

How about we tax idiots. You'd make the government a fortune.

What makes it a good idea?

The country is spending 50 billion per year but only taking in 30 billion in current taxes. New taxes are needed.

Fair enough, but dont tax something we're already paying more than our EU counterparts for. If the government spent more time coming up with ways to reduce their own cushy salaries and expenses instead of finding new ways to get more money out of people who are earning less we wouldnt be in this mess.

I would like to propose a €10 tax on mobile phone sales.
Also a €0.01 cent tax on every 10 text messages sent.

Should bring in a nice sum without anyone realising.
    I don't see the problem.

    biffo, that you?????????

Sounds like a good idea to me tbh. Money needs to be raised like it or not and if it's not this it's something else.

A 1 cent tax on every text message would be the way to go.

How about we tax mods for every person they ban? :pac:

Mobile phone registration may well be on the cards.

In France one cannot buy a Sim card or hand set without having it registered with some form of ID such as a passport or national ID card.

It has already been proposed in the UK.

All it will take will be a major false flag terrorist bomb involving an unregistered GSM handset to usher in such legislation.

In effect one would have to have a license to own a mobile phone. If one acts the boll*ix the state could bar them from owning one. The onus on each person would be to make sure his / her phone dose not fall into the wrong hands.

Charging tax on the annual renewal mobile phone licenses (contracts) would be the next step.

I remember hearing about this 3 or 4 years ago and it was supposed to be going through in a matter of months but it never did. Its a good idea and would stop a lot of messing about.

    Good and bad.

Good in that the authorities can monitor all GSM activity against potential terrorist.

Bad in that they can pin point within 15 feet any individual who is in the possession of a mobile phone. No doubt the UK authorities will have live access to the GSM database from service providers.

Already we are hearing of social welfare in this country having an interest in registered mobile phones for dole recipients. This will perhaps be the first step toward a surveillance state and we can be guaranteed more of it as the IMF debt noose tightens around this country's neck.

We all know the goverment need to come up with extra taxes so what about a mobile phone licence ? Like the tv licence everybody who owns a mobile phone would have to buy an annual licence for it. maybe €25 per year? I think it would be a good idea and pretty painless.

    Tampons are zero VAT rate.
Everything else is standard VAT rate.

[EDIT] - how silly of me
The VAT rate on semen is 13% ( look it up if you don't believe me )
and Services are at that rate

Sex toys , condoms and other such sundries are of course at standard rate

There is VAT on restaraunts, drink, and hotels [/EDIT]

IIRC it's illegal to solicit, but not illegal to pay for sex, so it would have to be declared to the tax man otherwise there is an element of tax evasion

It's always safest to get a receipt

    LOL

admit it you haven't a clue how revenue works, do you ?

the rules on tax rates are Byzantine , but if you can't eat it or wear it you are probably paying tax on it

Yes, but what makes a mobile phone tax particularly a good idea?

    I'll put it like this:

Let's tax noses! Most people have one!

Or we can just up taxes on every thing. That'll clear this budget shortfall!

Are either of my ideas better or worse?

Why not put a tax on starting pointless and stupid threads on internet forums.

That would make Marie ridgeway quiet...;)

    I am serious!!!!!:p

Definitely. If we could have a special levy for people who use their phone on public transport that would be even better.
