Theres probably a kext in the download for the tube stick if you may be able to get it to work with other software with that driver.

Do these things have any sort of hardware acceleration or does trying to watch any station peg the CPU?

I think the decoding is done in the software (so hammers your CPU).
I ran on my netbook with BlazeTV and it simply couldn't keep up, but after getting VLC setup, it responds very well.

The only problem now is picking up the signal without sticking my leg around my head with the antenna balanced on my nose at the same time as I run the bath.

Paypal said they ruled the claim in my favour so I got the refund instantly into my paypal account, but the money taken from my credit card still hasn't gone into my bank account. Does it take a few days?

Anyway, ordered one from ellieshang just now, fingers crossed!

Is it possible to record a channel using one of these and Windows Media Centre? If so would the file be very large and uncompressed or would it record with a codec? I would like to record the Late Late Toy Show and watch it later on next month!

I cannot get this thing to work.

Are the LEDs on the dongle supposed to light up at all? If they are, mine are not.

Did you click on scan or did you have to adjust any of the settings?

After trying this in work with the included aerial earlier, took it home last night and plugged the (amplified) roof aerial in using an adapter - works great!

I installed the drivers initially last night and Media Centre picked up 10 radio stations only. I installed Blaze and it found the TV channels also. Picture quality was very clear but it seemed to skip similar to streaming TV - looks like Blaze uses a lot of processing power?

From what I can gather from this trend this piece of kit is plug and play for Windows7 and doesn't require drivers. However does the remote work too? Does it need drivers to be installed or does Window 7 take care of remote control driver?

Also, out of curiousity it says that it can bring up teletext. Looking at the remote control picture I don't see a "teletext button". Is that only available through the software interface? Will teletext work on Windows Media Center?

Yes the LED is quite useful for finding the signal. One LED lights up and remains lit when its got sufficient signal strength to work. Think the second led is to indicate when you are recording something (must plug it in to check that.)

Also did you follow these instructions?

    1. Plug dongle into laptop
    2. Install driver (comes on mini cd in the package)
    3. reboot laptop
    4. Install vlc or the blazetv software (comes on mini cd in package)
    5. Find transponder frequency for your part of the country and note if it s horizontal or vertical (http://www.mpeg4ireland.com/dtt-muxes)
    6. Input frequency in software
    7. Fiddle around with aerial til you get a blue light on dongle (try holding it horizontally and vertically)
    8. Watch TV

If you still have no luck the signal in your area might be too weak.

I got one today from ellieshang . Works fine, both with the player supplied and with WinTV. Thanks OP!
If anyone wants a bit more control over tuning and extra features you can try altdvb
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ALTDVB

it is older software though and doesn't come with video codecs so needs extra work to display video... but will record and allow you to play back with vlc

After adding Video decoder filter and Audio decoder filter in settings you can display 4 video channels from the same transponder at the same time using PiP buttons, or record one channel while watching another

What Video and Audio decoder filters do you need to install to make the altdvb work?

I was able to add the microsoft video decoder filter in windows 7, powerdvd 8 also worked and looks less pixelated, ffdshow also seems to work

if you go into settings, filters you can add whatever filters are installed

you can right click on the video window to configure the filters

the blaze tv site does say the software does hardware video acceleration, but might depend on the video hardware you have and the software settings

Thanks for that. I already had it figure it out by trial and error.

The advantage of ALT-DVB is the PIP, especially 3 PIPs, that's great!

Yeah it's pretty good once you work out how it works

Don't know what adapter did he used, but I have one on the way from here:
    http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120624256957&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
It allows you to plug a normal antenna.

Tip for those struggling to get a signal using the small aerial this comes with.

Stick it onto a baking tray or some other metal sheet of similar size.

Explanation of why this works over on the Tech>terrerstrial forum.

Right I eventually got this from ellieshang.

What do I do next regarding frequency.

Im in Lucan and I know i have to put in the frequency but where and what is it. I looked at the three rock frequencies in Dublin which are 54 58 61 64
    This is where im at
