If you tune in BBC One HD there is a trick which allows for to record "other channels" on the Sky+ HD box which would allow you to series link it.

    Link

Doesnt work with Amstrad 1TB box   Tried it now a couple of times and UK EPG just doesnt load at all....

can I ask which combo box you use to record RTE and TV3 etc.?

I use a Technomate TM6900 HD Combo Super+. Only downside is the lack of a second tuner for the satellite but I can live without it. Can still record terrestrial while watching satellite and vice versa.

I keep on saying it until im blue in the face, Dump sky, get a decent HD combo box, UHF aerial and you'll have all the FTA stuff plus Irish DTT, keep your Sky box looped through the combo or fed to another feed from your dish, get a UK FTV card and you'll have the extra few channels either on the combo box or on the sky box (Five HD, CH4 HD, Sky 3, Viva, Five usa, Five R)

The combo box possibly wont keep the FTV card alive, but the connected sky box will, so when not in use pop the sky FTV card back into the sky box.

With this setup, you can record via the combo box to a Hardrive, you can also then watch a 2nd channel either by the combo box (Depending which one you have) or via the sky box.

If it seems complicated, its not, and once you have the system setup, its Free.

Ive combo boxes in all the main rooms and now have my epg as follows:

RTE1, RTE2, TV3, TG4, RTE news, BBCone HD, BBC HD, BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV HD, ITV, CH4HD, CH4,CH4+1, Five HD, Five etc etc.

    Snaps.

Can i get c4hd and 5hd on my set up the same as you?

My set up is the argus mini in 1 combo with usb hard drive +

standard sky box with freesat card.

I am alternating between the two at the moment.

Also could you explain and would it be possible to loop through the sky box through the argus mini in 1

Such a kick in the teeth.

Was able to record Strictly on BBCHD, now that it has moved to BBC oneHD, it's back to old SD, unless watching it live on other channels.

I thought we were supposed to get more HD, not less!!

Turned on tonight, sat down to watch strictly (hd) with the wife on my planner, took 30 mins to figure out what had happened.

I am cancelling sky before Xmas. Its bad enough we can't record the cbbc / cbeebies/ itv stuff.

(If anyone wants a sky HD pace box send me a pm)

Have your the HD channels tuned in on your 2 in 1? You may need to upgrade the 2 in 1 firmware to a 3rd party software (I use ILTV) so it will read the Sky FTV card.

Loop through means having the sky box attached to the lnb out on the 2 in 1 and into the LNB In on the sky box.

Or if you have a quad lnb just bring another feed down to the Edision.

The Edision possibly wont keep the FTV card alive, so from time to time it will need to be put back into the skybox to keep it updated.

the sky hd box wont allow you to record other channels anymore. the older sky+ box had a workaround to allow you to change the epg to the uk one and trick the box. however the new hd box has the epg Cached on the HDD so the epg wont change back to the uk. sky have us again with their cleverness..

I have BBC 1 hd,BBC hd and ITV hd tuned in already myself.

    I am just unsure about....

    How to change the firmware

Do i need to back up the original firmware and how do i do it

Does the ftv card go into one of the 2 card slots or do i need a module for the cam slot underneath.

A short explanation or a link in the right direction would be great

    Thanks

BBC One HD can be manually added in Ireland using the following details:

    Frequency: 10.847 GHz

    Polarity: Vertical

    Symbol Rate: 22000 (22.0)

    FEC: 5/6

Will hopefully work until they add it to the EPG. If they ever do!

Are the details to manually tune BBC1HD not the same as BBCHD - that what it looks like from the sticky ?? I'm confused, if I use the codes above will this add BBC1HD to my other channels and I will still have BBCHD on the EPG. Thanks !!

This is what I got back from Sky. Dear Sir, Thank you for your recent email regarding BBC 1 HD in Ireland.

I was sorry to read that you are unhappy that BBC 1 HD will not be broadcast in your area.

Please note that the BBC is an independant channel from us and therefore the decision was there's not to broadcast in Ireland, however, your comments have been noted and passed.

You can contact the BBC direct on 08702 438 000 or on www.bbc.co.uk
I hope that this information has helped and if you need further assistance, please feel free to email me back.

    Yours sincerely

    Dear Lisa Neilson,

Why don't you pay the BBC with the over priced Irish subscription money.

    Kind regards.

An email back suggesting how BBC1 and 2 NI and BBC HD became available on Sky might be useful, and then she can go and do some research.

Irish subscribers really need to consider some form of 'action' over the continued cost of subscription and lack of services....

Well presumably its going to come up in the conversation when cancelling and they probably record reasons why people cancel.

I will make sure they write down "epg in ireland is rubbish" and not "freesat as usual" in the box.

Why is there not a sky users group in Ireland, that can represent the thousands of users who are paying over the odds compared to our UK neighbors.

Answer, the same reason we put up with the state of this country and our economy. We don't mind been taken as mugs. As long as it almost ok (substandard) we will put up with it.

I wonder what power an honest user / lobby group might have in negotiations with Sky.

    None.

only way is not to pay them.. (cancel service )

But if you're going to do that or even threaten it - you have to do it in a way to set off alarm bells!

A drip, drip of calls wouldn't work - it would need to happen on one day...

why would BBC 1 HD be available on the irish epg, the irish epg has BBC Northern Ireland, i'm sure once the NI version goes HD you'll get it then, the irish seem to want all UK channels as if they're entitled to them, may I remind you that the england does not have any of the RTE channels and have to miss out on the "sensational" all ireland talent show

Why would "Us Irish" have to be reminded about what is available on the UK EPG? :p

Away with you, and stop trying to get a rise....:p

Might I remind you that Northern Ireland has RTÉ One, RTÉ Two and TG4

There will be no BBC NI HD on sat. There is no capacity for it. RTE will never be available in the UK, they can't afford the programme rights. Ireland traditionally has always had access to the UK channels. It adds little or nothing to costs for UK channels to purchase programme rights to cover us.

Why cant Sky just enable the record function for other channels?

    Problem solved.

No hassle for them and it gets around the permission issue.

They had no problems advertising ITV for Ireland on the other channels option.

The Irish don't get the BBC for free (well, unless they have Freesat). A portion of a pay-tv subscription goes to the BBC for inclusion of their channels in packages here.

They wouldn't make money from it.
