I dont see why people are so quick to condemn scientology yet sit in a church on sundays worshipping a space magician who sent his son who is also himself to die for sins that he created us with to begin with to save us from himself and become a jewish zombie, its just as nonsensical, the church is a moneymaking organisation as well, or was the vatican built on prayers?

Many people have died (been murdered?) because of Scientology and it's practices. I think that's enough to warrant an outright ban on the cult.

how many millions have been murdered, killed, stoned, burned at the stake, hung, poisoned themselves etc etc in the name of christianity and other religions

i have yet to see a crazed scientologist blow themselves or explode a car bomb in the middle of a busy town

Wikipedia 101 - When you scroll down to the bottom of the article, you will find a long list of references used to write the article. Most, if not all, of the references come from mainstream media outlets.

Name a religion that isn't based on absurd claims and 'practices'?

It's all just different forms of insanity.

It pisses me off when people decry Wikipedia as something you shouldnt use as a source, its still the greatest resource on the net for information.

clearly space warlords and aliens is nonsense, but a zombie jew and talking snake and virgin birth and all that? well sure thats completely plausible.

No, Scientology is far more preferable than almost all major religions.

Name one religion that forces it's members to refuse modern medical treatment. Most, if not all mainstream religions are fairly moderate with a minority of extremists. Scientology is an extreme cult led by extremists. You just can't compare Scientology with any other mainstream religion. It's a dangerous cult led by sociopaths and lunatics.

I don't disagree with that, it is a great resource for information. The problem is that a lot of people take the information on the wiki page at face value and don't actually click on the links to see where the information actually comes from.

Very true, but this "wikipedia, pffft sure anyone can edit that" attitude is just stupid, any stupid edits are quickly dealt with and the majority of whats on there is sourced from reputable publications or historians or whatever.

One has tenure, the other doesn't. Simple as that. Also worth noting that for all the harm the RC Church does they do also do some good, a claim I'm not sure can be made of Scientology.

So as long as a bullsh1t belief has a few hundred years behind it thats all it takes? awesome, I'm setting up my own religion, my great great great great great grandkids will be sorted.

Let's not forget the horrendous attitude of the psychiatry profession to the general public ... drug them, drug them and when that fails lock them up ...

still no reason to ban a group of people with similar views collectively defending them?

Anyone see the guy's that protest outside the Dublin office on Abbey street. I think they are there every weekend and they wear these masks.
Not really sure why they picked these masks, anyone know?

As I said, wikipedia is a great source of information and as you said the vast majority can be traced back to reputable sources.

I spend hours going off on wiki tangents and generally spend ages reading the different sources. I wouldn't, however, cite it as a reference or anything academic. I would cite the reference provided on the wikipedia page if it was reputable.

The Maurice Jarre incident last year springs to mind as an example of why you can't always rely on it.

I don't hear anybody speaking up for tv3 and xpose!

    OP, interesting notion.

Maybe before we start banning or destroying religions or the people who believe them (because it doesn't fit in with our own grand sheepish views of the world), we should cut off your internet connection and all those of similar opinions.

OMG look they have different ideas than us, they are not normal, they are crazy. We should BAN or DESTROY them.....

Flip sake... grow up and read a book or go travel the world, broaden your narrow mind

If I walk into a room and the people in it are worshiping an expired tin of tuna, I tend not to judge them as it is "their" life.

However if I walk into a room and see the occupants are watching the X factor, I do tend to harshly judge them!
I have written countless letters trying to ban and destroy it, as I am sure Simon Cowell is indeed the Devil and his soul objective with the X factor is to try and woe that Tweedy one and I find it utterly revolting!!

    WHO IS WITH ME?? :p
