I throw everything on the floor.

I take everything out of the bin and fuck it round the place.

I've created many jobs just by this one act alone.

In Ikea they have signs explaining why we should clean up after ourselves, to the effect of by doing so it means they can provide a better service for us overall. Wouldn't a better service be not telling us why we should clean up after ourselves?

Yes of course, although my friend has a weird theory that if she cleans up the staff won't disinfect the tables so she always makes us leave something like a cup and a napkin

Good point. Never looked at it like that.

I got given out to by the staff in a fastfood place somewhere (west coast America I think) for putting my tray in the bin. Staff member points to a sign saying 'there are staff employed to clear your tray, please let them do their job' and the other customers start tut-tutting in my direction for my act of cleanliness. Weird country.

I take less of an issue with it coming from Ikea because food sales are not their business. This is evident by the very low token prices they charge on most items. They really are just trying to encourage people to stay in Ikea longer rather than turn a profit on food.

Whereas McDonald's encourage it to cut costs and maximise profits and being an eatery is their business.
Same with Tesco and their youdothework tills.

Indeed. It only takes a second and seems like the nice thing to do.

Suckers...conditioned to do the corporations work. Why don't you make your own burger and get your own fries too?

Even when there is a sign advising you to let the staff do this?

Some very harsh words here, cu.nts, scum, etc.
Really? Leaving your tray behind is not actually c.untish or scummy.
In reality, its just a bit lazy.

If there was a sign saying to leave the tray behind I'ld leave it. But I've never seen one in a fast food place. Are there any examples?

Otherwise I always put the rubbish in the bin.

As to leaving something behind so they give the table a wipe, I normally work on the basis that those tables have loads of bacteria and a wipe from a cloth that's wiped 20 other tables probably isn't going to sort that out so everything stays on the paper on the tray.

I put any wrappers/cups onto the tray so it's ready to go, but I'll leave the tray on the table so it gets disinfected before the next people sit down. If it's mad busy and there are people taking the table as I get up to leave, I'll bring the tray to the bin.

in ireland I never used to bring the trays to the bin, because thats what the staff are there for. I didn't wanna be doing anyone out of a job! However i would always clean all rubbish on the table onto a single tray so its ready to go.

In Germany, it's actually looked down on to leave your rubbish behind, I haven't see anyone do it yet be it the college canteen, fast food, cafés, bars.... And guess what?? My theory was right! They don't employ people here to keep the place clean!! :O In the nightclubs and pubs everyone brings their own glasses and bottles back- they don't employ any floor staff! +1 for efficiency, -1 for economy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,723 ✭✭✭Cheap Thrills!

I usually do, unless there is tumbleweed blowing through the place and the floorstaff look bored!

I worked in fast food places though and I dont have any problem with it when people don't bother. The staff get paid to do it so it makes feck all difference to them.

If a place is heaving and people are walking around scouting for a table then it's only common manners to clean up in order to convenience others!

Despite being an annoying pr*ck, a selfish, self-absorbed condescending arsehole who has a higher opinion of himself than logic or past history should allow I still try to be nice most of the time so yeah, of course I tidy up afterwards.

Why be a f*cking assh*le to people who haven't done anything except serve you up a burger?

It's looked down on here too, you just don't seem to realise it for some reason.

+1 for your pocket. Less staff means they can sell the food cheaper.

Whether they do reduce the price or not is another matter.

With the profit of some fast food places throughout the country, laying off one staff member wouldn't upset the books in the slightest.

I could be wrong but I don't think I've seen a fast food place that employs staff solely to clean up.

Most staff share all work do they not?

There's 2 chains that I know of that do. You'll only ever see a normal staff member in the dining area if the other person is on break.

Yes and I even break down the chip box and the burger box to make more space in the bin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,430 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

Always do. I used to work in retail and I'd appreciate it when people tidied up after themselves.

There's a load of dicks who think "it's their job to tidy up, I'm not doing it for them, BLAH BLAH BLAH". These guys are ****, a bit of courtesy and consideration doesn't require too much effort. If you don't treat the workers with respect, don't have a hissy fit if they're not nice back to you.

Of course, it's basic manners. Jesus, if I was eating McDs regularly and was too bloody lazy to put stuff in the bin, I'd be the size of a whale!
