Got through as well, not sure I'll go though due to other options.

Maybe you can mail them and let them know if your not intending to go further, might give someone who just missed out a place?

Got through to round 2 - first bit of good news lookning for work in 2 years. Does anyone know much about the second round test - FEAST test?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 417 ✭✭Freemount09

Does anyone know how the people were wittled down ? Is it the top say 20% of people or is it everyone that scored over 75% ??

Is there a way to find out the score you got in the round one test ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 371 ✭✭Seosaimh77

Not sure how it was whittled down, but I think there is some rule that they have to give you feedback if you request it so you could try asking them what your score was, your position etc. Someone says that it was whittled down to 700 so I can only assume it was the top 700 scores went through

I got a email saying I failed to make the cut (21st). Just got a email saying "Due to a drop out, I am now pleased to invite you to the FEAST Computerised Aptitude Test on:" A big thanks to the person who contacted iaa about their disinterest.

Thats great news. I got a pfo too last week. It would be nice if others out there who dont intend on sitting the FEAST let HR know so others could give stage 2 a lash.

    Well done tho :)

Wish I saw this back in August! Newly qualified air traffic controllers get E51,000 a year, plus with shift work can bump it up to E75,000! Niiiice.

Basic starting salary for controllers after full qualification is just under E51,000, with 27% shift work, this ends up being just under E65,000.
As for the article you posted, I wouldn't believe everything you read in the papers. The numbers in that article were released by the IAA during a dispute!

when you are qualified and become active. do you have to pay back your training while working? or is it if you just leave during active employment you have to pay it back?

If only people were able to read the documentation that is provided....

From the Recruitment Guide / Information document:
Where they achieve an ICAO rating they will repay partial training costs of €50,000. Deductions will commence on attainment of the ICAO rating at the rate of €500 per fortnight until paid in full.

i did read it. but i was speaking with others atc's and they never said anything about it and i was not sure and came on here to see . thanks for providing more insight than the 2 lines form the document that i have already read.

What's the problem so? The two lines from the document answer your query.

well it obviously impacts your salary, was just wondering does it not piss you off doing a hectic job like that and paying back so much so soon. as in you feel like you are doing a stressful job and not getting paid for it.

and it must be a big shock to the system when that is paid off and you are on full salary.

can you pay it back sooner for instance if you came into money or whatever?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 472 ✭✭Staph

Regarding paying back the IAA after your training, I think it is hardly an inconvenience and a whole lot more favourable compared to having to raise the funding yourself and support yourself during training without any assistance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,930 ✭✭✭Martron

I totally agree with you there. Just wondering how it works out. Is it possible to do over time and pay ot back sooner

Up until SCP7, students did not have to pay back training fees. It's a new cost saving measure-a pretty stupid one in my opinion! It only came in for SCP8 and after. That's why other ATCOs haven't had to pay it. It's obviously just something that you'll have to factor in for the first 50 months after you check out. Your salary will essentially be E52,000 per annum before tax. I'm sure if you had a bit of extra cash floating about that they'd take it off your hands. It's not like they're charging you interest that they'd lose out on if you pay the fees back sooner!

I presume it'll come out of your net income after tax? It is a fairly big hit, especially considering you've been living on 18 grand for the previous 2 years. Nearly a third of your starting net income.
