Exactly, im not applying for this job but if i was i wouldnt be posting up info on what types of questions or anything bar the normal information that every applicant recieves. Its a competition, helping someone like this only puts them further up the list than you are.

I applied for a civil service job before i came 51st in the exam they where interviewing the first 50 :) so 1 place can even make a difference.

yea and if someone of give you a heads up or some info then you would of been 50 on the list:mad:

LOL its like being in school again :D

    cheers thou,good luck to all!!!!!

    • good luck to all doing it, the truth is, if your brain decides to stop workin in the mornin, your f**ked!!!. the day i went, it was all very tense, and people kind of kept to themselves, myself, i wouldand have rather people talked to each other before, to ease the tension.but it seem so serious!! i no its a comp, but its the first stage, people should be more relaxed!! it would be a different story if you were down to the last 40 or 50???. the crowd there seem to be mixed, im a electrican by trade,so learned my skills in college and on site. so, if anybody is reading this has there test soon, talk to each other, were all there for the same reason, because there is no need for the rudeness!!!!:p

Maybe Im wrong.. But If you get very tense and your brain decides to stop working from the tension due to a minor aptitude test then you should reconsider working in ATC because in the real world the stake waaay greater!

i.e. getting a question wrong on the aptitude test or making a mistake or having a brain freeze and causing two planes full with passenegrs to crash into each other over Dublin City

    now thats tension!

exactly, but at the end of the day, you could get all of the questions right, but if you cant stay calm in a crisis, then it means nothing.you could be great on the tests, but if you dont have the confidence to go with it, well, your at nothing.

I did it the other day and yes, people were keeping to themselves at the start, but it was out of A) nerves and B)politeness for the people running the tests-it would have made things a lot harder for them to sort everything out if everyone was chattering away;)

I got chatting to 2 women afterwards and they were lovely.:)

Did it myself the other day and found it fair enough, its the least I would expect considering you are entrusted with guiding people safely through the air!

Was just wondering though, of the 28 selected will there be any positions available in Dublin when the training is over?

I am a married man with 2 kids and although I could sacrafice the 2 years training in Limerick away from my family, if I thought i would be coming back to dublin after, it might be a bit much to expect to uproot them all, ask wife to pack in her job, friends, family etc.

Is there any provision made for the likes of this?

Doubt they could make any exceptions.

The requirements arent extraordinarily high in the first place.

If you got called for the aptitude tests and did well enough I'd say you'd be fine.

The reason I ask is the leaving cert is the equivalent of a level 5 fetac,i would have an advanced level 6,as well as the lc just wouldnt have the 2 C's in higher level subjects

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,531 ✭✭✭glic83

didnt apply i wouldnt be looking to do this till it comes around again, just want to make sure i would be ok to apply for it when it does come around, checked the site anyway,id say i would be ok,

The educational standard required is a minimum of Level 5 on the National
Framework of Qualifications (NFQ). The National Framework of Qualifications is
the single structure mechanism for recognising all education and training in Ireland.

Best of luck to anyone who applied by the way

I did my leaving cert 10 years ago, and only did 1 higher level subject instead of the two required, and i got called for the aptitude test. I heard if you did your LC 5 or more years ago, they are more lenient. Not sure how true this is but it worked for me.

Everyone that was self-declared as meeting the requirements was called to an aptitude test.

Glic83 your best bet would be to ring the IAA HR,they will have no problem finding out and getting back to you,but it seems you do meet the requirements because it includes ALL qualifications with level5 being the minimum, see here down the end http://www.iaa.ie/files/2010/docs/20100901050633_RecruitmentProcessforSCP9.pdf

Does anyone know if being colourblind means I am not eligible for the job? I have scoured the net looking for answers and not turning up much. Have read about ishihara and lantern tests but none was directly relevant to ATCO. Any insight would be great...

    Normal colour perception is required.
It is defined as the ability to pass the Ishihara test or to pass an anomaloscope as a normal trichromate

An applicant who fails the acceptable colour perception tests is to be considered colour unsafe and shall be assessed as unfit.

What were the minimum requirements again?

Does this mean that if I didnt meet the LC requirements Im out even though I have 2 Bsc(hons) science degrees since then? Is there any point in going to the aptitude test if thats the case?
