I will prob be visiting friends quite a lot who live beside St. James' hospital. What would be the cheapest way to get there, and where would I get off?

I'm not sure if it's the cheapest but I have to go to the hospital a lot and I tend to get the train to Connolly and the Luas to the hospital

    Train and Luas: 3.30 (one way) + 2.10 = 5.40.
    66/67 Bus (to Heuston) 2.20 + 1.80 = 4

    Much of a muchness really.

Hey,can someone tell me whats the deal with laptops in lectures?I'm just wondering if you can have them and type up notes rather than writing the notes down as it'd be well handier. Thanks in advance

Yeah no problem really. Although in JH1 and some of the other bigger lecture theatres, some lecturers only allow the use of laptops in the front rows.

    Why is that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,487 ✭✭✭banquo

Never heard of that myself. Might just be the (very) odd lecturer. Generally a non-issue I would hope?

That was a first year economics lecturer in JH1. There was a lot of talking/messing in that lecture, such was the size etc. Probably different in 2nd year..

Having anyone with a laptop sit down the front probably just makes it easier for a lecturer to prevent people huddling round the laptop and chatting/laughing at stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,338 ✭✭✭squishykins

That would be grand...don't actually think I'll use the laptop though, I'd take whatever in more by putting it in later, doing it twice :P

I have a question! Is it true that only losers/weirdos wear the Maynooth hoodies? I wanted to get one and was told by a Maynooth goer "uhh nobody actually buys them..except the losers" I like them! Maybe I'll just join the so called loser crowd and buy one anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,764 ✭✭✭mickstupp

Loads of people buy them! Never mind whoever said that.
I'd have gotten one last year only I couldn't afford one, wasn't part of the budget. Figured I'd reward myself with one once I get me degree instead. Hoodies in general, I'm not too keen on... but it's a Maynooth one! And therefore absolutely inarguably cool. Mind you it could be that I'm very proud of the college I go to, and still over the moon that they let me into the place!

Anyway... somebody referring to other Maynooth students as losers and weirdos, doesn't sound like anyone I've met here in two years. Everyone I've met has been dead on. Lovely friendly people who don't look down on others or judge them for what they wear. Very odd to hear that sort of criticism

could you please throw a bucket of shut the feck up over who ever said that.

seriously that is such a load of rubbish, its universtiy not secondary school, i've never heard people being called losers or weirdos here.

Yeah it was the first bad thing I heard about Maynooth goers anyway! I'm sure this person was just jealous that they couldn't pull off a Maynooth hoodie!

Oh €33ish is good! I was expecting like €50 or something like that! I think I might get the grey one. Will there be a huge rush to buy them at the beginning of the year do you think?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 5,904 Mod ✭✭✭✭irish_goat

They were around the €25 mark near the end of last year and there was some sorta buy one, get one half price deal going on as well.

yeah it passes through Naas and Clane then after, the times are 8.10,10.15 and 11.15 as far as I know. They have the timetable on the NUIM website.

Yeah it's JJ Kavanagh's service. There should be loads of info on their site as well as NUIM's transport page. I think it's €42 for a weekly return ticket from Newbridge to Maynooth and back.

They're literally a plain hoody with the NUIM crest I think. They get cheaper towards the end of the year to allow them to sell off stock. I may get one this year actually.
