So you wake up on a cold wet monday morning... how do you go about motivating yourself to study when you can just skive off for the day and its not going to make much difference... there is always tomorrow

It's handy enough to go out in Dublin, you can just get the Nitelink back home at 2am or 4am. The pubs in Maynooth are grand for going out anyway, but it's nice to have the choice to go into town :) especially seeing as places here tend to all play the same sort of music.

Connect to the NUIM Wireless from an iPhone or iPod Touch

(The account, security and proxy settings can also be used for other smartphones)

    1. settings>general>network>vpn

    2. under vpn settings :

    type : PPTP
    Server : nuimwireless
    account : <student number>
    RSA SecurID : off
    password : your moodle password
    Encryption level : auto
    send all traffic : on

    Proxy : Auto
    http://proxy.nuim.ie:8010

    3. Connect over wifi to nuimwireless

    4. Turn the vpn slider in settings to on, it will connect and safari will work
    Hi!

I just got the newer version of the ipod touch for christmas and I've tried this but it doesn't seem to be connecting. Is there anything else I can do??

    Thanks so much!!

    Hi Tracey,

They don't use VPN anymore. Just open safari and you should be prompted to log in using your student details.

Here's my tip; If you're late for a lecture in TH1/2, and you want to get a seat, go around to the back entrances ;)

Doctor on Call 6291169 After Surgery Hours - If Dr. Gaffney is not on-call a recorded message gives details of the Doctor on-call and the relevant contact telephone number.

The medical centre (if that's what you're looking for?) is behind JH. If you go out the back exit of JH it's the closest building to your right.

Opening hours are half nine until 16:45 and they take lunch from 12:45 until 2 pm.

Hope you get that STD clearer up soon 5aces. :)

Socially, it's one of the best in the country, with a strong argument for being the best. Campus accommodation is incredible. You'll meet so many people and find so many parties during freshers' week alone. Even if you're off campus you'll still meet loads of people such is the friendliness of the vast majority of people who attend nuim. It's very much a culchie college and all the better for it to be honest! Haven't a bad word to say about the social side, if anything it's too much of a sociable place! Easy to forget that you're there to get a degree which means a lot of cramming come exam time. *Gets back to studying three plays and quant economics in two days*

Ah, my advice would be to get friendly with people on campus or living in the town, i.e. the majority of students. And just crash at their house. I know loads of people who turn up to houses to crash after a night out. I've come home many nights to find my friends passed out on my kitchen floor!
I'm doing economics through arts and if you've done it for the LC it's grand for 1st semester, easy in fact. However, 2nd semester is a big step up, a lot of foucs on maths and most people are finding it tough going. You really have to work hard, something I neglected to do unfortunately!
