You could try move to an area closer to cavan but not in cavan, less pricey and easier to get to?
Cavan's supposed to be great craic at times (they had a big fleadh there last weekend) but I'll be going to Carlow though :pac: I'll need to find out about those thanks!

    Baileys? Where? >_>
I'm still sorta giving up drink.

The design is different. Some of it anyway. Unless it's changed a long time ago and I hadn't noticed yet, which is very likely.

I'd already checked. I didn't change the style, and it's not exactly the style that's different. Just some new/different buttons. Nothing major anyway.

Yeah, I was just wondering why they chose a completely different style for that? It sticks out sooo much! Again, maybe it's just me lol It's not important anyway but.. meh.

    *Is a bit hazy today*

I've a new found love for avocado mashed with cream cheese. I've never even been into avocado for savoury food (or sweet for that matter, even though it's used that way in Brazil) but I think in the last couple of days a lot of my daily calories have come from avocados heh

Do you think your hair is redder than Darren's beard? I don't wanna have to admit that he's a redhead...:o

Cheers for the wise words people! I'm now following some advice of a guy in my class last year who's gonna be doing the same course and is gonna be travelling to/from college each day, it works out not too expensive...this might work if I can sort out a type of student grant!

you should qualify for a back to education or mature student grant, have a look. :)

<3 avocado!! nyom, its an acquired taste tho i think.

i agree, the buttons are completely different design, they dont fit in well, but then again if they did we may not have noticed them as new :D

erm, i think my beard is lighter then MoN's hair, if that helps :D

    Off you go!

Hate the way Darrykins's beard actually suits him in all its redness >_< It's even worse considering it was my idea! Gahh

Avocado is an acquired taste? Really? I wouldn't have thought so. Apparently my sister was mad into avocados when she was a baby. Still is. I can only have them in creamy stuff as flavouring myself =/
How do most people actually eat avocado? It's all soft and creamy and greasy and stuff...

Congrats Darren on getting your place, even if it is bitter sweet if you can't take it up straight away. You might qualify for back to education or w/e though.

I may have booked accommodation, purely because the people named their guesthouse after Red Dwarf. I know. I'm a big dirty nerdlinger :o

Have you and the hairy one merged? :D

I dont think it is fair, to teach parental types the internet.
It is bad enough when they can hunt you down, by phone.
Someone has alot to answer for out there!

Did you enjoy your trip home?

Oh god I'd never get suckered into anything like that >_>

Hairy wha, so not hairy, I think you have to have hair on your back and a sizeable amount on your chest to make the hairy category. Unless you're talking about eyelashes :P
And no, some people at home call me Larry (charming I know), which is rarely shortened to Lar, esp not by my mother.

I didn't teach them, my mother has been sitting in front of a computer most of her career, you wouldn't think it, she's pretty clueless. My dad just bought his own laptop about a year ago and picked it up, although he doesn't use email much, mainly he just orders parts on the computer and spends ages looking at them!

I'd much rather my mother hunt me down by email, the phone calls are a killer :( on and on and on and..........

not really :/ Dunno why I bothered, went home to see my granny that I hadnt seen in a while and my uncle coz he was home from Canada, but in the end he fecked off playing golf and there was a match on which means stfu!

Wait what are you saying, you like his beard but not coz of the redness  controversial! I think the beard really suits him actually, I'm not biased or anything........mmmm beards :pac:

Congrats! I'm very happy for you Kellie ^_^

Guys! I need an opinion. This might be a bit long, but please bear with me.

Basically, before wanting to become an engineer, I've always wanted to be an air traffic controller. I think I was about 10 or 11 when I decided to go down that route. In Spain you need to have a university degree before applying, so I always thought that I'd go to college and after that I'd apply.
    Sooo....
Obviously in Ireland, said university degree isn't necessary, but I'm a month too young to apply here this year (and anyway, I don't want to apply in Ireland). This left me with a few options. First option: Eurocontrol. Those guys are awesome. I needed to finish secondary school for that so I sent them an email a couple of days ago (that's so they register you so you can make your application). I still haven't applied because.... mum convinced me of applying to NATS first. That's the National Air Traffic Services of the UK.

So, I did, mostly to keep my mum happy, as you do, because I was pretty sure I'd be trying Eurocontrol first, and if nothing came of it then that's fine. I'd still apply to AENA in Spain after university. NATS wasn't ever in the plan.

So, moving forward a bit. They send you a stupid online test that I don't think actually serves to sort applications because anyone could pass that. And then they ask you to book an interview.
It's like, nearly impossible to pass the whole selection process anyway. Only like 3% of people do pass both test stages plus the final interview, but I always think that if you don't try you've already failed.

Anyway, should I go or should I just ignore the offer? Tests seem to be always conducted on a thursday or a friday so I was thinking that if I do go I could just take a weekend off or something and make it a nice little holiday. But I'm not sure I should do the test in the first place =/

I'd be very happy just doing engineering and seeing where that takes me, but the original plan has always been to at least try to get into ATC.

The first test is an ATC and numeracy test. For the ATC test they sent me a looong document with stuff to learn, including lists and lists of names of aircraft. They recommend that you learn everything very well as the questions come from that document. It should be fun >_>

Yes I do realise I could just post in the aviation forum but they don't know me so it would be a bit pointless right?

Also, if you're ever bored... go to the back of Dublin airport with a radio scanner. (and a camera, snacks and other stuff and try not to look at the other guys if you're a woman because they'll be looking at you)

    Fun :)

    Jeez that was long. Em...

    tl;dr
Should I take an ATC test in the UK?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,730 ✭✭✭✭entropi

After reading through that, in my opinion, you should go take the test...if not only to satisfy your own curiosity as to how you would perform, but to open up another avenue of future employment that you would also love to do (being that it is a childhood dream).

You could go take the test and make a long weekend break of the time over there :) Take the test, you'll probably keep thinking about it in future if you dont do it now! ^_^

Hehe I guess I'll go then. Mum was all "I'll pay for flights and everything but.. we're going to Glasgow right?" lol so I don't think I have a choice... Though I made the mistake of printing out the document they sent, and it's 25 pages, 7 of which are just filled with lists of aircraft and the amount of seats, their speed in knots, etc. It's all very interesting though. :)
I doubt anything will come of this but who cares?
