I agree that that question was ridiculous, and I reckon it was only so that he could pretend that he was "tough" on Cowen.....remember that all of the questions were agreed in advance by the Taoiseach's office.

And who cares whether Cowen takes a few drinks......the question "Why did you make a bollox of the country while Minister for Finance, and compound matters with a secretive deal in Sept '08 while Taoiseach" would have been far more relevant.

The Ahern interview was a new low, as in its own way was the Cowen interview.

Agreed. Although I suspect for different reasons on the latter.

He said "unpleasant", to be pedantic and all.

I'd be fairly confident that he was indeed referring to internet chat boards in general and not boards.ie exclusively.
Some users are very quick to take offense when in fact none was intended directly. I guess they are just looking to have a pop at Tubridy at all costs.

Look what they have done to you, you accept their "higher status". He's just one person with a megaphone.

    DeV.

Actually yes I think he is entitled to say that after all the crap he has got from this site. It was many members here that had no reasons for their tirades of abuse towards him in the first place. And it seems "unpleasant" was the word he used, not "nasty". To be honest I think he went very easy on Boards, all things considered.

What he and most other media folk don't understand is that message boards aren't singular entities you can give a steadfast opinion of. They don't get that Boards is actually a very good representation of a cross cut of Irish society, and you'll run in to all types of opinions about everything in the same way you would talking to any random individuals on the street.

Maybe they're just used to everyone licking their ass, and when they read something that is honest and without an attached motive they don't know how to handle it. On top of this, sites like Boards.ie are getting a lot of media presence these days so they're probably a little afraid of it too :pac:

Boards.ie services about 2 Million unique, distinct people in a 90 period. Do we really want to give *them* the ratings bump? :):)

But isn't that quite a strong sabre to rattle?

I'm happy to debate with anyone, I'm proud of Boards and what it has achieved, but I'm not going to waste my time chasing them.

    DeV.

Ah Dev, and there I was thinking you had no qualms about raising a short stack all in....

It's a point of principle. Would take you 5 minutes to craft a mail to him. Surely you could take 5 minutes from your Scrooge McDuck-esque swimming in piles of gold made from Boards, to fight your corner?:pac:

Thinks he's the protector of the nation.
    http://www.herald.ie/national-news/outrage-as-tubridy-floats-idea-of-murphy-interview-2308224.html

Funny thing is Tubridy interviewing Murphy would be as predictable as interviewing Gerry Adams.....Nothing edgy, just tubs interupting and "speaking for the nation".

Not rattling a sabre at all, its not like I can command 2 million zombies to march on RTE HQ now is it! :) Just people often mistake the relative sizes of the audiences.

Personally I have nothing against Mr Tubridy (and I think jibe's at his physique are poor form and the incivil ones have been removed).... I dont know what we have done to deserve his ire unless he is tarring the entire site because of one or two rowdy threads or robust criticism of his talents.

Of course, like all of these complaints, not one of them mention the option of recourse that we have here. They can contact us or report a post (like any regular Joe can) and air their complaints and we will consider them genuinely. Complaining on your own personal radio show where nary a counter can be raised, well... its very 1980's ireland imho.

I'm happy to debate with Mr Tubridy but as for chasing media and doing interviews etc, thats Darragh's job. The general feeling is that I'm a bit too likely to say something "honest" on air (even I accept that! :) )

Tweeter is for twits. From that awful band you bafflingly keep inviting back to the LLS (Im not mentioning them in case they get free publicity) to that "And now for my FAVOURITE part of the show - Talk To The Audience" bit, you make me actually look forward to my imminent deffamation of character suit! Burn!

I think it is more down to the fact that before boards.ie became a company people like him were slagged off to fuk. He would have been called a useless ******, gaymer cnut and no one would have batted an eyelid. Now if you said his hair line was receding you'd get your ass kicked, possibly because at every government meet the first thing they discuss is what does "boards.ie" say?

In short it is possible he has a gripe with the site on an historic basis rather than the last three or four month site stance on all things new social media, we are the new media, bow to us, stance.

He was called a prick quite a few years ago and no one said nowt.

One or two threads of criticism? I think his criticism of boards amounted to two words. Unpleasant and mean. And look at the amount of return fire it has invoked. :pac:

Seriously, does it really matter if someone takes a dim view or criticises boards, even unfairly? Is this part of the Irish thing we have that we need everyone to love us? :P

To be honest, I think he's entitled to his opinion... my only issue is that he voices it against an irish company who are just trying to get by on a national platform....(imagine if he went on and described "Guinness" as mean and unpleasant.... do you think Diageo might sue them?? :) ).

Meh, we're going somewhere new and interesting. What the people we are leaving behind think... I'm not overly concerned plus, if I needed everyone to like me or us.... boy, I would have quit this job a LONG time ago! :)

My objection is when they say we arent available to be contacted or when they say that its all anonymous and isnt policed etc. Thats unfair.

Oh and as for Boards becoming a company and restricting things... we've always had a "civility" rule here, since day one. The change came when we grew BIG, not corporate.... we attract a LOT more attention these days and that attracts a lot more laywers. Tell you what, you get the laws of the land change and we'll relax :)
