I'm loving my 4, but I'm thinking I'm gonna regret moving to 3.

My 3G connection is very intermittent, and when it is connected it's painfully slow compared to o2 or even my sisters vodafone connection!

Saying that my number still isn't ported, so that may have something to do with it!

That's more than likely the issue alright. Until the number is fully ported, all sorts of crap will be going on.

I'm the same..I had my number ported over...
If i'm still having issues I might just ask for a new number and see how that goes

mm, earlier I thought I'd regret signing up to three due to lack of coverage and no 2.0/2.5G coverage, but I'm currently using it for tethering and the network is working flawlessly, even better than the experience I'm having on my iPhone.

I think this has been answered before, but is tethering free on three? I'm not really in the mood for a massively excessive bill ;]

    cheers,

    Kevin.

there;s no charge for tethering..it just comes out of your 2gb plan
in limerick city I'll get 4.5meg download, 1.5 upload which isn't too shabby at all

three is also blocking 'certain' websites which include proxys and others, is this a general ban or is there a way to get it revoked?

it brings up this page: http://mobile.3ireland.ie/pc/Live/pcreator/live/mwsun

What sites are blocked? I never had a problem with blocked sites on 3

riiiight so was playing around with the tethering and it seems itunes decided to update all my podcasts in the background, according to my usage stats i now have 10gb of downloaded data having only had the phone a weekend :(

Don't seem right, 3 should have you cut off if you hit 3 maybe 4 gb, doubt they'd let you run up a bill that high unless they've changed their policys for the iphone price plans.
8GB over usage would be a pretty hefty bill.

try going on any proxy or sites that you think may be blocked

Yeah, they seem to block all proxys and... ahem, adult oriented sites.

I'm using blackVPN at the moment though, thats getting around it no problem, works a treat for BBC iPLayer (I have a referral code if anyone interested in 2 free months)

It's 4800 euro in over usage you owe them, Can't wait to see how this plays out:), you should ring up and ask them to add the 15GB mobile broadband add on to your account straight away and hope they don't notice.

just tried calling them to get my usage and their systems are down. will plead to add the 10gb to my account. god dammit...

I'd be taking the line "what do you mean I don't have the 10GB add on", I asked for it when I signed up. I'd query why it's not showing up in my 3. If you do manage to pull it off, you can cancel the add on when ever you want just tell them you don't want it next month.

Go to my 3, select buy add on, change the device to one of the modems, this should open all sites

I still can't view my unit information in the My3 site, either on a laptop or on the iPhone. Is anybody else still having this issue?

Little issue with FaceTime, wondering if anyone else has the same issue.
When I got the phone from 3 I was porting from O2, but it actually took 3 days for my number to get switched. However before that I tested out FaceTime a few times with the missus (using the 083 number I originally got with the phone). Well now that I have my usual 085 number, FaceTime calls still show up on the other persons phone with the 083 number.
I'm sure this has something to do with my 083 number being on Apples database (or something similar), and I also feel that it will probably be sorted soon.
However like I mentioned I'd still like to know has anybody else had this issue?

Have you changed your number on the phone?

Go to settings -> Phone -> My Number.

That keeps your 3 number even after porting and because facetime uses wifi and not the phone network it could be the issue.

I am having an issue with receiving calls. Sometimes people can get through to me, sometimes not. My gf was able to get through maybe 1 out of 10 times. My mates couldn't at all. I was receiving texts fine. I'm hoping it's because my number isn't fully ported.

Really don't like the lack of a back up data network. I notice it doesn't say 94% mobile broadband coverage, but 94% population coverage. I have full 3G signal at home and in work, where I don't need it, but driving down the road you generally don't have it and that's when ya might need maps or something. Never an issue with o2 or Meteor. I hope they sort it out.

I had already changed my number on the phone.
I've just managed to sort the problem anyway.
Just turned off FaceTime in the settings, restarted my phone (doubt that's even necessary) and turned on FaceTime again. It took a few seconds to set it up, and now it's working fine again.
    Cheers for the help anyway.

As for you not always receiving calls. I'd say it could be an issue with your number not being properly ported over yet alright.
Mine was acting a bit odd too for a while before I was properly ported.

I think i'm about ready to take this back for a refund. I'm having major grief with 3G internet. It often doesn't work while there's still a 3G icon there, and the airplane mode off and on trick only works about 50% of the time. Other times I have to reboot. I don't really have faith in 3 that they'll fix it any time soon, and I definitely can't go on with it the way it is. Anyone else having as much trouble? The death grip thing is also really obvious and bad on mine.

According to three my data usage is 1gb and the 10gb add on is not available with the iPhone plans.

    That's good news isn't it?

Don't you get 2gb included in threes iPhone plans?

hey just a quick question. I was on VF PAYG, bought the iphone 4 online on Friday morning and chose to keep my old number. I'm expecting delivery today. Do I need to contact VF and tell em I'm leaving or will my SIM automatically port over. I heard you only have to contact if you were on billpay

    Cheers

3 will do all the porting for you. You don't need to call VF even if you were on Bill pay. Once you get your phone just call 3, tell them the number you want to keep and in about 2 hours your VF SIM should go dead and you should be receiving calls on your iPhone.

cheers for the suggestion, but I'm still having the issue.

I've configured it to: Your 3 mobile is: Dongle Huawei E220

Is there a particular modem you have to set, or is there a waiting period for the bar to be lifted?

    cheers,

    Kevin.

I've been onto 3 about this and they're looking into it...any chance you ported your number as well as so far everyone who's reported this on boards had their number ported including myself..if it's not resolved i'm gonna look for a brand new number..
as for the death grip i've mine in a case and no problems..
I think everyone's aware of the death grip issues so you have to use a case or the full cover zagg shield to get around it...it's not a biggie for me as I always use a case with my phone anyway.
