Why have three no data access when your on EDGE? I'm basically in the sticks and 3G is intermittent. It's basically useless then without the 3G...

Using my new phone now. In a pub where I have 2-3 bars. My mate on Vodafone has 0-1 bar and my mate on O2 has 2 bars. There not using iPhone's. When I give it the death grip I get 0-1 bar. Usually 1 bar.

So over all I think the signal is better before death grip and similar with death grip.

Another thing is 3G signal is always on but 2 times now the Internet went for about a min.

Overall I'm happy with the iPhone 4 and the 3 network. Hopefully it stays that way :)

Still no way of viewing units on my3, either on the computer or on the phone. It simply says there is no data available.

Also, apparently "Since your last bill you've spent €0.27." How? How can I have spent that? I have done NOTHING that isn't within my units.

    Any ideas?

Same here Slasher, only I've been told I've spent €0.25! I'll wait till Tuesday and pop in. Hope to port my old VF number too, had €55 credit on it on Friday so kept the number they gave me. Hope it's not to late.

I popped in today, and they didn't know. They told me to phone customer care, BUT I did a bit of digging.

Turns out EVERY TIME you use FaceTime, it sends a text (in secret) to an english phone number. So we are being charged for international texts.

I turned off FaceTime. I thought the whole point of it was that it is free. Can't they do whatever they are doing in that SMS over Wifi?

Really? How odd. Why on earth would it do that?

No idea. Trying to get answers. It's fairly well documented though, people have even worked out what the number is.

Another question - How do MMSes work on Three? Are they the same unit-value as a SMS? I don't see them listed anywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭noellinnane

Guy in Three, Dundrum told me MMS aren't included in the units and are 30c each!

Also... MY3 says I've spend 309.79!! (I'm assuming the 309 is for the iPhone... but that was on my Visa card..., no idea what the 0.79 is for!)

Will have to give them a call tomorrow

Flexible units won't be visible until 2nd for anyone who signed up on Friday (you will receive a full months allocation then). There should be no charges incurred for calls, texts, data used up to then as these would be included in monthly plan. Anything not included e.g. MMS will not and get added onto the bill. The 25c is a prorata charge until your billing kicks in on 2nd

Anybody know if you can take the signature off your web texts with three?
ya i asked the jellysms twitter (finbarr i think ?) about that on friday, he said he fixed it in the desktop version of his app a while back, and will now submit an update for the iphone app, he got back to me last night and the update is awaiting approval !

Mine says 309.50. I was thinking my extra 50c is for the few hours yesterday for July. Today is a new billing month.

i bought the iPhone 3 as an upgrade with 3 Ireland and the €199.50 showed up as extra incurred since last bill etc. However 3 give you a credit limit which is not revealed to you, so very soon thereafter I was disconnected from 3 for going over my credit limit. The first time it happened I paid €50 off my account to reconnect the service but was promptly disconnected the following day for the same reason, on both occasions in mid sentence. I then paid the balance due on the phone.

Rang Three in Liffey Valley and the told me they'd 3 32GB iPhones left. I drove all the way out only to be told in the shop that they're for new customers and they've none for existing ones. I aksed if I could buy one of them as an existing customer but sales assistant spouted some line about serial numbers. I see O2 say on their website that they re reserving iPhones for their existing customers first...

I asked her about an upgrade which I've qualified for and she told me that I'll have to pay EUR309 for an upgrade to an iPhone or change or my tariff to a more expensive one and pay €249 which is the same as a new customer. Hardly an upgrade really.

    Three - Frustrating customers everywhere.

Frankly after three years with the network the only good thing I can say about them is their tariffs are cheap. Their customer service is shocking and their 3G recepton is unreliable.

How is that HARDLY an upgrade. The phones are 700 new. Why would they offer you a phone cheaper when you are signing up to the same contract a new customer is?
Not one network in Ireland offers cheaper phones to existing customers than they do for new customers. (The O2 system of Silver Gold DIamond etc is different as people have to save up their upgrades to avail of a cheaper phone)

If I pay EUR249 I have to sign up to an 18 month contract on the EUR60 a month plan. A new customer can buy the same phone on the same plan for EUR239.

My bills are on average EUR60 a month which over the course of eighteen months is EUR1080, some EUR380 more than the cost of the phone. And that's not taking into account the increase in my bills if I changed tariffs which their rep told me I'd have to do.

Upgrades are an incentive to get current customers to stay with their network but I can't see any incentive to stay.

The 3 staff even said that if I spent more money per month I would move to a different upgrade band and could get it for cheaper.

That aside I am willing to buy the phone but my grips are with Three, their patchy 3G coverage and lousy customer service as highlighted above. I was even onto their customer service deparment earlier this week but was cut off several times and never received two call backs which I requested. I even asked a rep on the phone about phone insurance and was told they didn't do it, yet another rep told me otherwise.

    They are a budget network.

Really enjoying my iPhone 4, but less than pleased with Three's proxy - currently debugging a bizarre timeout/expiry issue which is destroying the usefulness of an app of mine.

I don't know what's going on with my number. I called yesterday and asked for my number to be ported. The guy said it could be up to 24 hours which it has been. My meteor phone is still got a signal and I am getting some texts to it. However if I call people from my 3 phone it shows up as my number not a 3 number.

My gf sent me a text and it came to my 3 phone (she's 3 too) but a few mins later I got a text on my meteor phone.

Seems like it's half ported, it's crazy.

give it time and the other one will go down and wont come back, But at the moment that is pretty sweet having the same number twice.

Quick question, does anyone know how to check your flexiunits on three can you enter a shortcode like o2?

mm, I've been using my iPhone for a whole day now and 3G coverage is a bit of an issue.

Is there anything between no network connection and 3G aka gprs/edge?

    cheers,

    Kevin

You normally have to go to My 3 and then to your usage. Don't know if it's the same on the iphone though.

    The filtering is very annoying...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭noellinnane

Yes the filtering is really annoying!! Waiting on a call back in relation to that. While makes sense to filter pre pay maybe, because minors might be using it. It doesn't make the same sense to filter on bill pay.

I've gotten myself a sub with BlackVPN which gets around all the filtering. Also let's me use BBC iPlayer here! I've got a referral code if any one wants to join and get two months free PM me for it

@Kevin! There is 3 (3G) and then just 3. There is no data access on 3 only on 3 (3G). You can manually select them in Settings>Carrier

Yeah, signed up Saturday and my3 is saying I have no inclusive minutes. I would probably guess that the new Flex Max plans are not loaded on to the back end systems yet or something. (correct me if I'm wrong on them only being rolled out for the iPhone 4)

The 3G issue is also a pain, I woke up this morning to find it had dropped to the 2G network overnight and not switched back to the 3G, yet a simple flick of the airplane setting and it was back onto the 3G network. I'd be pretty sure that a simple carrier settings fix could sort this out, but not sure on where to begin to lobby Three to look at it
