It would be a 10 hour commute - each way - for anyone here to get to your class.

Wow Martin, I had NO IDEA!
I signed on to this board not knowing where the people were. i live in a place called Dublin, California not Dublin Ireland... ok now I see their point. Is this board just for people in Ireland? or are there people from the U.S. also??

When you say you still train with Almeria how often do you train with him?

He's based in LA so it cant be that often. Do you train via his DVD's and books?

Would you not affiliate yourself with the JKD guys up north? There a lot closer than LA and they're linked to Sifu Dan Inosanto so it shouldn't be different to what you do atm.

What are the other 3 arts that you train in? and what level/grade are you at in each of them?

    Hi

yes joaquim lives in las Vegas so I don't train with him in person,I trained with him long distance through books and dvd and now going to instructor camps this year.why would I affliate myself with guys up north, yes there under dan inosanto and there great guys but I woudn leave a teacher because he lives far.I do train in 5 different martial arts but I'm not getting into my martial arts back round and what grades etc as this is about jkd.I do 5 differnt arts,2 of which I am qualified instructor in and will be in future in the rest.

How much actual training time have you logged? (With a real life instructor.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 367 ✭✭OLDMAN1

learning by dvd is not a good idea especially when there are guys doing what you want to learn 90 minutes drive away, why go to vegas? how many times have you been over training with this guy before you got your instructor grade (black belt)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,188 ✭✭✭Doug Cartel

Is this where you got your qualifications? http://www.beyondjkd.us/engl/shop/video_shop.htm

If so, I think you should just chalk it down to experience and find a gym to go train at. I don't think there's much JKD, but there are plenty of decent MMA places in Dublin, they'd probably suit you best.

i just read jkddublins message on his DVD and book long distance training. in ireland. and i say theres nothing wrong with it. Tommy carruthers from scotland trained out of jkd books for years before being qualified by ted Wong. but the good thing is any instructor that come from inosantos camp is allowed to develop the own teaching and interpretation of what Dan teaches so may i suggest some closer to home jkd instructors Mike and Steve Krause scotland ,Rick Young Scotland and Bob Breen London ive trained with these 3 so and all have made a huge impact on my jkd training

I don't know about the other guys you mentioned, but Rick Young has had a lot more training than DVDs and a few seminars. Sure. he's done some long distance stuff, but he's also put in years of regular training at Edinburgh Judo - among other places - and has several BJJ Mundails golds to his name.
