Hi Martin, long time no see,
The JKD classes are running at the minute. The guy who is teaching them is not teaching Jun Fan, he is teaching Concepts I have been talking to him and he is very keen to meet you.

    Guys
My club is a small not for profit group who have been involved in martial arts for more than 30 years and in JKD for 20 years.
We love our training and our door has been open to cross the sectarian divide during the troubles. We always bring top quality instructors to the club to keep up to date.
    all the best to you.

Any decent martial arts training? And what would that be? Kung Fu? Karate( altho some forms are adapting)? More like standing around in a hall punching the air. Combat sports are the only real way to learn what you can do in a street fight( not that I get into them - just use common sense). Proper sparring with protective equipment conditions you somewhat to take a punch plus improves your timing and delivery of a punch or kick.

Poking someone in the eye when ur adrenaline is pumping is not likely.. that requires exact execution on a moving target let alone ur own movements not being as accuarate. Plus you have to practice it on a person in training 100's maybe 1000's of times until a technique becomes 2nd nature..cant imagine anyone being up for that. Especially if I could "lose an eye"

The only things that work are punches, leg kicks, (knees( if ur lucky) elbows, headbutts. Im sure everyone can say they know I guy who did this and that but really...lets look at this realistically. Most people I know who try some wing chun move end up eating a haymaker

You can think what you want. You might teach students to use deadly force, but thats up to you.
I can understand teaching someone to do so if out numbered, or a mugging etc. But not for an argument that boiled over.
I've been reading your web page, and I agree with most of what your saying, but thats not right for every situation.

Going on a couple of post isn't the best way to judge someone now is it. But I'm not going to get into the whole my dad and beat your dad type rubbish.

The term martial arts has all this mystic to it..but I just imagine some overweight guy in a school hall punching the air shouting HIYA! JKD I dont know much about but the way people are talking on this thing it really just sounds like"my kung fu is better than urs" . So mabye use ur kung fu magic to help you get down to a boxing, mma, muay thai gym because there they dont care about which style is better...its about how hard you train and howhard you help your partner train!

    hi Cagefan
Theres a lot of truth in what you say.
I don't have all the answers and don't pretend to ,we just love training in JKD and include some MMA and weapons as other classes in our schedule.
    cheers

What's better Jeet or the Israeli self defence art? Has anyone taken both?

I have trained in JKD in the past ( about 1 years training 9 years ago ) Followed by several years training in Krav. On a personal level I enjoyed both. In terms of which is better I assume you mean from a self defence self protection perspective, if so IMHO they both had pro's and con's. If possible take some classess in both systems and see which one appeals to you

IMO Its better to master a few things and make them your own rather than having a lot of techniques to remember.
We constantly hack away rather than add more to our training and keep the good stuff.
I have trained in many systems and JKD is the one that suits me,we keep it simple and direct.

is n't the Straight Blast lads JKD related??

There is some guy in belfast who does it too I think. I remeber reading a few years back. I think they do an older from of JKD??? open to correction on that I am

I used to train with a guy called Robert Tumelty who trained in Belfast (Ballysillan Leisure Centre). I think he was trained by (or trained with) Tommy Carruthers (Direct Lineage to Bruce) in Glasgow.

Small(ish) guy that could punch like I could only dream about!

He was giving it up last time I was speaking to him a few years back but I hope the details lead somewhere!

The Instructors currently studying with me are Mark Maxwell,Manie Kearney, Paul Crossey and Phelim Doran. All these guys have been JKD students for about 10 years and one for 20 years. We are under the direct supervision of Sigung Taky Kimura and Andy Kimura. Taky is Bruce Lee's highest ranked student and was his closest friend,he was best man at his wedding. So if you want JKD, its right here waiting for you. However you have got to make an effort to train,I have one student who travels for two hours in each direction to study with me.
    all the best

This book "Regards from the Dragon Seattle" by Taky Kimura. is the story of Bruce Lee and Taky over years and how Taky has personally kept alive his legacy. Taky's personal lifestory is there and at times it is truely heartbreaking. Reading how he has overcome the tragedies and difficulties in his life is remarkable and humbling. The man's spirit shines through as a truely unique human being.

Just back from the Christmas break. good discussion to answer this person question i train in Glasgow under the Krause Brothers and One of my friends Nick woods is a Krav Maga instructor. to be honest there is No Difference as both systems are designed to be effective. JKd is A Blend system the same as Krav Maga. so any fighting system that that can blend, adapt and learn from others is a good system by the way JKD Starting in Newry On the 3rd of February

The basis of Jun Fan Gung Fu Jeet Kune Do is rooted in the noble art of Wing Chun, it then includes Boxing and Fencing ideas and principles. It has freedom within the boundary and outside the boundary ,using no limitation as limitation and no way as way.
However, please do not confuse this with other arts.
We train in other martial arts but keep them seperate out of respect.

new to the boards so hello everyone.i was wondering are there any jkd classes being taught down waterford direction?i did tae kwon do last century but only lasted six months at that.in recent months i have tried to find a martial art that mirrors my philosophy and spiritual beliefs.i have read up on the origins and tenants of tang soo do,tae kwon do,hapkido aikido,to name but a few and the only art that ticks any of the boxes is Sensei Lee's Jeet Kun Do.i have read two of his books, bruce lee's fighting method and of course "The Tao Of Jeet Kun Do".to be honest it is Sensei Lee's philosophies towards the martial arts and life in general that stirred a powerful spiritual response to seek classes in my area.can anyone help please? btw i am the wrong side of 35 am i cracked even thinking about doing this? i need focus and discipline badly to help me with my battle with depression and unrestrained emotional issues and having prayed about it this is the answer i got. Sensei Lee believed that if it was not pratical or did not work then do not use it,this is what i need to do and it is why i think Jeet Kun Do is what i must strive to practice.sorry for rattling on guys and all help is appreciated, thanks.

    Hi there
I don't know about classes in your area but there may be someone,as a poster said someone was teaching JKD however I don't know the Instructor or who he is taught by. There are very few Instructors of JKD so by all means take a look and check out his lineage and who he is studying with,. if you like it then go for it. BTW dont worry about age as it dosn't matter if you cant do fancy kicks etc as we don't do them except for fun and flexibility.
    good luck
