Irish techno-geeks may have to wait yet another year for Google's much-hyped Street View initiative after the company admitted a launch in Ireland is "not imminent".

Although Google representatives spent more than a week last year driving through Dublin and filming local streets, the company confirmed to the Sunday Tribune that the images would not be seen any time soon

    I love how I'm a techno-geek because I use the internet.

Yeah that was weird. No doubt written by some inebriated hack at the independant still pecking out his stories with two fingers on a rusty remmington...

    Today??

Thats discouraging given that it seems to take them about a year from camera car sightings to going live online.

    Did you wave?

    :)

Was about to start a new thread when I found this one. Is there some legal issues regard the uploading of streetview in Ireland. Surely they have a lot of areas covered considering they started mapping over a year ago. Why has nothing been uploaded.

I became curious when I noticed that the flying orange man doesn't like crossing the border on Google maps. I suppose there was a bit of trouble the last time orange men started walking down the streets of Dublin so I can see why Google might be wary :D

It doesn't make any difference what colour the car is. They are all doing the same job.

They mostly use red Astras but I'm sure other colours are ok too.
Apparently it was black in Limerick.

Saw the Google Street View Car in Castlebar, Co. Mayo today!!!

You couldn't miss it, red car covered in Google logos with a 360 camera mount . . . gave them a big smile!

Finally we'll have some updated footage of the streets in Castlebar (well maybe in about a years time).

It would be nice to get an update on the overhead sat footage too but I think we'll be a long time waiting for a break in the continuous rain we get in the west to coincide with a satellite pass.

I reckon this is years off to be honest.

Isnt there not some sort of ongoing court case in europe which is preventing google on rolling this out to more countries.
