Not volcanic related but there is a big bog fire to the south of town and it has turned the sky an orangey red in a large swath of the SE sky. The sunlight here is actually quite red and dim and we even have some ash falling in the garden. Looks like snow! :pac: Great stuff.

Temp also fell 0.6c since the smoke started to block the direct sunlight!!!

Anyone in the area (north Galway) know where this fire is located??

Lads, anything in the long range forecast that might blow this all away?

I'm supposed to be flying on holidays next weekend from Gatwick.

So far it ain't looking good, is it?

Anyone in the area know where this fire is located??

It's about 5 miles to the south of In the Mind of Something Else. My neighbor is burning his Man City jerseys.

Aer Lingus has cancelled all flights tomorrow.

I saw a plane droning overhead while I was out...low flying, propellor plane I think. Not sure if they're able to fly in this? Or was that a observation plane?

Unrestricted airspace. As plume is at a height, no real effect on low flying propeller aircraft.

Well, a debt of gratitude here to the volcano, as an English family stranded here bought many things from us today...

As they say, an ill wind.

    e01_23019981.jpgGreat snaps!

Is it me, or does those 3 plumes look like 3 rats springing into the sky?

To me one of them looks like Falkor from the never ending story

are you hopecasting Su Campu;)? why can't you be like that when it comes to snow:P

Hopecasting's all I got at this stage! :( No when I looked at it this morning it did seem only be at a puff, but I think it was just toying with us, it picked it up again soon after.

I can't get either of those two webcam links to work, is anyone else having that problem? What's it doing this evening, still the same?

My my what a selfish thing to say, think of all the people stranded at airports. :D

When the snow hampers you , you complain to people for enjoying it because of your misfortune but when the volcanic ash benefits you, you dont talk about the misfortune of others.

    Just an observation.

We wont actually notice anything different though will we? Will it just look like cloud to us? I mean, as far as I am hearing the ash wont actually start falling unless it precipitates?

EDIT: Nevermind, according to the Met Office its reaching the ground in England!:o

One question i ask to the experts is , does this ash cloud block out the sun??

    Latest VAAC:

    http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/aviation/vaac/data/VAG_1271526609.png

Much the same as last (i.e. doooooom), but perhaps showing a faster closing of that 'hole' around NI/Scotland than before.
