I hear it's like musical chairs?

How's everyones studying coming along? I really don't want to study for the next six weeks or so, I'm bored of it already :( And to all SF students: How long do you think our essays are supposed to be? Especially for modules like micro and genetics...it's gonna be hard to do 3/4+ pages for both essays in an hour and a half!

MCQ was a ****in disaster, almost resigned myself to just repeating the Biology exams.

Was it just me or were most of the questions from the lectures, not the practicals like it said we would be examined on?

That's how it seemed to be, but I'm sure everything was mentioned at some point in the labs, even if it was just mentioned once while we were in the middle of something else. :P

Scare tactics maybe? Shock some people into studying?

Well it's backfired in my case at least. :P

Haven't a clue to be honest.:o At this stage I've pretty much decided to studt for them as they come along. What modules are you doing out of interest? I'm doing chem and all the Bio modules excluding 6 & 10.

I'm doing geology and biology 2201-2208 :) Can't believe the exams are in 2 weeks!!!

I'm doing the same modules as you. Module buddies!

Having a total stress attack at this stage. There just seems to be so much to cover and so very little time. Haven't started most modules yet which I think is worrying me most. These next two weeks better be productive!

What do you want to do next year? I'm so fed up with studying already :(

Put Genetics down as my number 1. Would love to get it. Though I'd be happy doing any of my top 5. Yourself?

Yeah I'm sick of being in the library everyday. Keep finding new ways of distracting myself. Counting trains leaving/entering Pearse station, looking at what ppl had for breakfast by looking at the bin beside me, refilling my water bottle countless times. My "study time" is a joke. :o

My heart sank a little when I read your post :P I really want genetics too, hopefully not many more do :D

Haha! Everyone and their mother wants genetics it seems! I blame it on the Mikado's and coke at the Smurfit institute on Wed! Definite deal clincher for me. High 2.2 is looking like it won't be enough this year. :(

Ohhh noooo!!! Until now I hadn't heard of anyone else wanting it :( Must stay away from boards! Yeah, I think I'll be lucky to pass at this stage! Really enjoyed that genetics talk though :D

Haven't been on boards in donkeys and now look at me when I'm supposed to be studying! Bugger!

Yeah the talk was really good. Got to see Kevin Mitchell's mouse brain slides. :D

I love that building! I keep hearing people say they put down neuro, molecular med and physiology so hopefully genetics won't be too popular or I'll be sad :(

Yeah fingers crossed! Have heard people say all of them except the new functional biology and environmental. Once I don't end up in chemistry! its at the very bottom of my list.

I didn't like physics/maths and geography. Strongly considering Biology and Chemistry this year.

EDIT: Don't know how well I'll cope with chemistry. Any suggestions on books I could have a read of?

Was on his tour aswell :P That narrows it down who you are anyway.:D

You and JC06 will be glad to know that after wanting to do Genetics nearly since the start I slowly started losing interest even though I'd still be happy doing it. But I put Chem down first so I'll hardly get Genetics ahead of it.:P

I had no idea our course was basically the go-to for anyone who didn't get into medicine, but it seems there are at least 100 of them, and any of them I've talked to seem to be set on doing whatever degree sounds the most medicine-esque. So thats molecular med, neuro, and physiology. Id say that leaves all the other subjects a bit safer since the medicine people in general seem to be both smart and hard-working, and quite possibly will be in the group that get the highest marks. I'd say genetics would be number 4 on that list though.
I've no preferences really, I'd just be glad to have a degree and maybe be able to call myself a <insert-any-subject-here>-ist. -ist just makes jobs sound more impressive :)
But whether anyone here wanted medicine or not, everyone feel free to be offended by my broad generalisations... :)

Well I'm still hoping to do medicine as a postgrad and since your degree doesn't matter once you get a 2.1 I'm not going for any mediciney-type sounding course.

Yes but the fact that your degree is relevant might actually help you in the long term.

Mol Med or something might prove handy in the postgrad med course. Botany or Geology probably wont......

Still, it doesnt matter as long as you get in!

True, but having not done chemistry I'm very limited on what I can do, so I'm pretending that it's not my mistake which is limiting my choices. :pac:

Do you think the science course office could send out a list of what the most popular courses are and how many people put each course as their number one? I think that could motivate me a little bit more, seeing how many people we're competing against :D

Worth a shot asking them. If you can find a time when it's open.:D
