Ha, it wasn't even the Springsteen to be honest, although that was some fair chunk of Springsteen...

I am well chuffed! I'm glad I got rid of all The Boss albums! Would no doubt get a 10 from OutlawPete though!

Eluvium are class, missed them when they supported EITS, most frustrating

It's fantastic... my favourite mix. Starts out really weird and gets slowly more commercial as it goes on.

So many mounted up during a busy semester that I just ignored a load of them :D

You get a 3.4 because the list reminds me of a slice of brown bread thats been left out for a few days. I must eat this slice with no condiments whatsoever. Except traces of stuff I don't like... Like Bon Jovi sauerkraut or Brian Adams pickled beetroot chutney.

So you actually do like something on my list  I'm sorry it wasn't obscure enough for you :P

It's called having a laugh. I for one won't be taking it seriously. We are all unique and all have different tastes so I find this tread entertaining. I'm just waiting now for Kolds list so
    a) I see if I can recognise anyone on it &
    b) I can rate him :D

Oh hey there buddy, this is the 'post your favourite 20 albums' thread, not the 'Taking a break from masturbating to insult a load of people' thread. Make with your albums or kindly piss off.

Too many guitars mostly, but also is there an album apart from Absolution in there younger than 10? Go forth and experience the aural sh*tfest that is the 21st century.

    For good reason my friend.

Go forth and experience the aural sh*tfest that is the 21st century.

    Nah, you're grand.

Seriously though, a true classic from the 21st century?

    Name 5. :p

I can think of a few good ones but nothing approaching greatness TBH.

    But OT I guess, sorry.

Ooh, didn't realise we could ask about our ratings. You gave me 7.8 for this list:
The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
    Radiohead - Kid A
Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy EP
The Flaming Lips - Clouds Taste Metallic
Del Tha Funkee Homosapien - I Wish My Brother George Was Here
    DJ Shadow - Endtroducing...
    Radiohead - OK Computer
    Super Furry Animals - Guerilla
Miles Davis - In A Silent Way
Talking Heads - Remain In Light
    Autechre - Confield
    Aphex Twin - Drukqs
    My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
    Sonic Youth - Dirty
Stravinsky - The Firebird/The Rite of Spring (I have them on one CD ;))
    Górecki - Symphony No. 3
    Kraftwerk - Computer World
    Television - Marquee Moon
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
    Radiohead - The Bends

Why'd I lose out on that remaining 2.2?

This is a surprisingly interesting thread :p

Don't think of it as losing out, think of it as doing well ^_^ And no, I may have spare time on Easter weekend but I'm very busy from tomorrow on.

Also @Caveat I could name a bunch of great albums from 2000 onward. True classic suggests nothing but time and regard. And guitars are just... overdone >_< When's someone gonna make a modern Cello, bassoon and synth rap album already?

There are a lot of bands messing around with interesting instrumentation. The Flaming Lips, Radiohead, Sigur Rós, Arcade Fire... I was listening to a lot of CAKE and Youngblood Brass Band yesterday. Just over a massive Autechre kick, every track is full of interesting sounds.

But if you listen to mid-90s Flaming Lips (especially Clouds Taste Metallic), there are things you can do with guitars that, to the best of my knowledge, only Ronald Jones has done. Guys like Nels Cline, Kevin Shields, Ed O'Brien come close, but there's a lot more sound out there to be found...

Ah I'm well aware. Jonny's a better player than Ed though imo. Detaching the E string and scraping it with a 50p was pretty cool when I first noticed that.

Of course, kind of a given really.

But nowhere near as good as Robert Fripp who has been pushing the sonic boundaries of the instrument for over 30 years. Hence my 'older albums' emphasis a lot of the time - it's not that the moder-den stuff isn't good, just that a lot of it has all been done before, only better.

(Just as well I left out King Crimson's Red then or we might have had guitar overload)

Only Kevin Shields and Jonny Greenwood have really come close to doing something 'new' IMO.
