But isn't a freeviewHD box effectively this anyway.

    Obviously only where in range

No such thing yet, I think you are confusing Freeview Uk MPEG 2 terrestrial with Freesat satellite. There is no commercial motivation in the uk to make a Freeview/Freesat combo box as you use either one or the other. Combo boxes are popular here in ROI because RTE is not free on satellite.

Ah I was confused, I thought you could use a Freeview box with a disk. You can't. I'll get my coat.

The only combo Freesat/ Irish DTT receivers with full 7 day epgs for both are the Freesat TVS with mpeg4 capable dtt tuners built in.

The LG lf7700 series is a fine example. The 32inch TV can be purchase for €470. Full HD tv with Irish Dtt and HD Freesat as well. Great TV!!

Yes but both EPGs are not integrated. Great to have the tuners and EPGs included but it operates exactly how separate DTT and Freesat set top boxes would operate.

Some people just don't get AV channels. Has to be integrated channels IMO.

Richersounds Belfast sell for £399, based on stg rate of .85 would equate to €470

    They deliver for around £20

On the timer, I will check it out. I have found that generally the features of the Edision while very similar to the MVision are implemented a little better. In particular recordiing is more flexible and stable. Maybe others who have used it a little could comment here.
Cheers for that :). The bit that is a pain with the M-Vision is selecting the channel from the list when setting the timer. It always gives the full list of channels that you have to scroll through one by one, ignoring the favourites lists that are set up. Even being able to manually enter the channel number isn’t possible, a bit of a pain with a few thousand channels.

Is the URC 7240 a One4All Remote? I have one like it at least at home if it is and i will try out. i would suggest one of the Logitech Harmony universal remote range if you have more than 2 pieces of kit. They are extremely easy to use and everyone in my house can operate them including my 3 year old :)
Unfortunately your 3 year old has an advantage over the person in question:D. The harmony’s are fab remotes, but still too complex. My neighbour is the same. Her 4 year old granddaughter comes in and says “No problem grandma, piece of cake, this is how you do it”:) but she is lost (with NTL box). Just to clarify, it is a one for all remote designed to be super easy to use (pic below) and they still have issues using. They have two, one for upstairs one for downstairs, so I don’t want to change if at all possible. They aren’t learning remotes, hence the problem with codes. I’m pretty sure no modem built in (thanks anyway shovel). If it worked with a code in your all in one slegs, I would probably chance buying one.

Remote record is a fairly advanced feature not likely to be found in this price range. Freesat EPG as discussed before is only available on Freesat boxes which in turn do not have integrated DVB-T for Irish DTT.

I know you are looking for the killer solution for Free TV. I get these kind of questions alot. To be honest with you, you are being a little too ambitious and the features you are looking for are not likely to be found in these type of combo boxes. The closest you will get is at the very high end of the Linux boxes like the DM8000 or something like a Windows Media Centre PC but these can go up to 1000eur.

The main appeal of these boxes is the ability to combine Irish DTT and Satellite FTA in one low cost box with single guide and remote and also be able to record. They are not intended to cover every base that Sky+ does as it has the advantage of being integrated with a specific tailored service supplied by Sky funded by their subscription revenue.
Yea the idea was to cut down on the existing boxes they have, as they were having difficulty switching between devices. They want to have DTT, Freesat and of course the foreign channels on 19.2e and 13e that they’ve had for 16 or so years:rolleyes:, all on one box. Hence Sky+ wouldn’t be much use either. Had considered the likes of linux based boxes, but think would be bit complex/pricy. Media Centre I could probably do with all the spare parts I’ve lying about, but probably bit complex and boot up time would drive them nuts:D.
I wouldn’t have seen remote record features being too far removed from some of the remote control (rs232) features. It seems more common these days. I would have thought future firmware updates could have introduced it over Ethernet, but what do I know. It certainly would help set up recordings remotly for them;). Same with the EPG, what with talk of real digital having their own epg, would this not open the door for box makers to use if its contents weren’t copyrighted like freesat’s.

Is there a channel editor available for the Edision box?

I bought this one for the M-vision but looks like one available for the Edison too here. Not sure if a free one is available but am sure if there is someone else on here might know. A Google search for "Argus Mini channel editor" certainly brings up a few results ;)

Yes that is the channel editor for the Edision. Costs 20 eur.

    Hello,

    Does anybody have a solution?

I have tested PVR functionality, and discovered the following problems.

    1. If you are watching an already recorded title from the hard disc, and the timer is programmed to record another TV program at the same time, the timer recording is not activated (the timer function is canceled).
That behavior is independent from time shift settings.

    2. If the device is in the recording mode, and you accidently push the power off button on the remote control, the device turns off without message box (yes, no). The command should be ignored, and the device should obey the settings in the timer section. This is very important if you have universal remote control such as Logitech Harmony One with different activities.

    Regards.

Has anybody verified if these are standard problems on all boxes?

Can the recorded programs be transferred to PC and archived (e.g. like the .TS files from the MVision Combo boxes)?

Are recorded programs saved with the program name or just the channel, date, time info?

Seems to be new version of this box out with Ethernet port.

Anyone got a look at this, or tried it yet ? Looks like competition for the HD300 :)

Nuts - bought one last week :(

I have a question - when you record a programme and then watch a portion of it, is there any way to bookmark where you stop or do you have to fast-forward every time? I bought mine to watch a few laps of a NASCAR race, and they are typically about 4-5 hours long - That will result in a lot of fast-forwarding in the week!
Can the recorded programs be transferred to PC and archived (e.g. like the .TS files from the MVision Combo boxes)?

I had a quick try at this at the weekend, and could not get it to work in the way you ask or trying to play back a .ts stream recorded on a PC. But it was only a very quick try. I will try some more in the next few weeks - too busy ATM.

Why wait a week or two ?

Well to pay Irish VAT might be one reason :) When you add in the shipping from Germany would it work out close to the same cost ?

Irish Online sellers are charging 13-14 euro , That German Guy uses DHL for 20 Euro , You are saving nearly 20 euro and it arrives in 2 days , Thats quicker delivery than than an irish etailer ,

Not all charge 13 to 14 euro and many Irish companies use fastway and DPD which are next day services. Of course its individual choice but you did ask why wait and its one reason I can think of.

    Any ideas, mods?

Surely anyone that was banned would not be stupid enough to come back with a similar name and have their first two posts in the same thread?

Well they seem to have a similiar agenda!

Personally, I'd rather buy from an Irish supplier than a German one:D.

I know a few Irish retailers that will have it delivered to your door in 2 days.
Maybe you had words with an Irish retailer in the past and now you are an anti Irish retailer.

I reckon an IP address check will sort Dec from Dec.

    Foolish

Another reason to wait might be to see how it copes with ITV HD which the German seller will understandably have no experience of.

I will feed back on that next week :D
I just bought one of these from possibly the same person our Nasa scientist above used (German Ebay seller who uses DHL ).
Sorry slegs, more of a timing thing, than anything else ;).

Personally, I have no issues buying from other EU states, especially if the item is not available in Ireland. Depending on the price, I don’t see the need to pay an Irish seller to import a box I can import myself. However I would have bought the original box from slegs, only I saw the new one was available. I do see the value of local sellers and the support they offer, hence why I have sent people their way. Whether they turned up or not is a different matter :D
