Box of 18 Clif Shotbloks. Orange flavour. I have the strawberry flavour and they are truly fantastic.
They pack a decent amount of calories carbs and electrolyte and no fat. Better and cheaper than a bag of jellies.
I tend to consume a pack of 6 over a 3 to 4 hour ride. Don't need anything else.

6 jelly bloks per pack. Each blok has 10 cals and 8g of carb. Very easy to eat on the go and not messy unlike gels.

Freehub really doesn't go with that carpet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,510 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Anodized freehub looks sexy, shame it is to be hidden under a cassette.

Will they be used for racing or just training wheel?

Haven't really decided yet. They're principally summer wheels for the travel bike, and in any case I'm stuck with my Powertap Open Pro at the rear until the Quarq comes (in about a month, probably).

I don't really fancy slamming them into potholes during a race. Will probably do a few races on the Open Pros before risking these.

Apparently the HED hubs are made of cheese, so I'll try and keep them out of the rain for a bit then no doubt eventually have to get them rebuilt with DT240s or some such.

Makes sense. Are you keeping the powertap when you get the quarq (it's a power crank like SRM right?)?

Doesn't look like the open pros were holding you up much anyway, can you buy better tactics I wonder?? I kid!

I have three or four bikes and am very lazy, so I'll probably keep the powertap. Yes, it's just like an SRM except lighter, cheaper, easier to set up, and has a user replaceable battery.

well if an outrageously cheap powertap happens to come on the market, anyone who seeks to outbid me will suffer a permaban ;)

How much cheaper are we talking if you don't mind me asking? Can you just buy one for your current cranks?

If you happened to have one of the compatible cranks, then you could in theory send them off to the US to have the Saturn unit fitted. In practice this is not really an option, since the US store does not deal with Europe directly.

I ordered it from cyclepowermeters.com in the UK. It's a few hundred cheaper than most of the SRMs (I try and mentally blank out the numbers, la la la not listening). It basically works out about the cost of a couple of Powertap hubs (not the super light ones).

Seriously tempted by one of those toolkits, but I'd have to hide it from herself for a long time.

What I do need are new wheels. The reference somewhere in this thread to a 1 mil reduction in rim width being the sign. Well, I'm lucky the rims haven't collapsed tbh on further inspection. They're Rolf Vector pro's, and ten years on them. So new wheels. - I reckon Cycle Superstores Mavics Aksium will be hard to beat as a training wheel.

My old ultegra wheels are also banjaxed, so I'll ultimately replace them too with a slightly higher quality wheelset.
I'm concerned about compatibility issues. I'm building up my planet-x with some variety of 9 speed ultegra that I have sitting around. I'm on ten year old Dura Ace for the Trek. I reckon that new version chain/cassette will be fine on new wheels and that the old derailleurs will handle it fine. Would have thought old chainsets wouldn't complain too much?
CRC seem to have a good prices on cassettes at the mo. And Mr Skeff had suggested Sram chains.

Other things in the target line are FSA carbon setback seatpost
2 pairs of Look Keo's. Any real difference in the various versions? And has any change occurred in the foot plates of the shoes to prevent me using my ten year old sidi's?

    comments welcome.

they were a little uncertain when I rang, but have a few pairs left, and one fewer now! Should arrive today. Have to say I found them easy and helpful to deal with.

My CRC basket is groaning with the weight of non sexy pieces.

Nice one - they were obviously just giving me the sales spin when I was in telling me how lucky I was to be getting the last ones ;)

Nice wheels though for that money. They replaced the cheapo felt hub & open sport rim that came with my wife's bike - the Aksiums are only 100g lighter for the set but the in quality terms the difference is like night and day.

Open Sport is a quality rim, maybe the build was a bit off.

Yeah rims are fine, I think it's the hub that's muck. I'm going to use the Felt/Open Sports on my commuter as the current wheels are on their last legs, so I opened up the hubs to check the state of the bearings. The bearings on one side of rear wheel where very badly rusted. The wheel has seen maybe 500/600km and only one or two wet spins. So the hub and/or build is shoddy.

Still, one I replace bearings they will be fine for commuting.

Was there much grease in the hub? Sounds like whoever built it was worried about their grease stocks.

Plenty of grease. Although the grease itself was quite viscous, certainly not as thick as the teflon or lithium grease I have, could have had something to do with it.

Over the past month or so ebay has been eating my cc

    -Rapha cap
    -Sidi dominators
    -Ambrosio Stem
-Drop Bars x2 (one of which will probably end up here soon)
    -Ultegra Cranks and BB

Now for the agony of waiting for all the above to arrive...

Agony? It's the best bit! Especially when you get loads of packages on one day and wonder 'wait... what did I order?'
