Ah right I think I get ya now. Not going to test it out myself though! Going to leave my PS3 off for the day, which should mean that right about now one of my cats is sitting on the blu-ray remote.

It might be a good idea to edit the thread title. I know it seemed to eminate from a Heavy Rain issue, but it's clear now that it's not. It's an issue with all older PS3 models. Also, this is going to be a hot topic for a while, so it might be worth it. Just a suggestion.

Hugging your PS3 corrupts the hard drive.

Offical ps3 boards are on fire. It's getting hard to even view posts. Lot of angry/frustrated people...

    I know, I deserve that. I've had two RRoD's if that's any consolation.:o

    Oh noes!!;)

Anyone know how they're going to fix this problem for people without access to PSN... That is a genuine worry to be fair!

Some fella sent an email or something to CNN and posted it up. Was priceless, think it was deleted though

@ OP or Mod, please change title to include error, as it's not only a Heavy Rain issue.

    Threads merged and title changed.

I also posted a news item elsewhere. I would advise anyone with a phat PS3 not to turn it on as this is causing some form of data corruption. Be safe, not sorry.

Yep, I grabbed one of the 60Gb before they were wiped off the market. Me wants the backwards capability.

Some sites are saying that 60% of the PS3s in the world are now bricked by this unless you play older PS3 games. This is a major PR disaster for Sony.

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhh

Want to play Heavy Rain, this is alot of horse***te
They need to fix this, you can't even play games off-line

Wise words. I wouldn't be taking any chances, I know that.

In saying that however, if this is not caused by a network issue (it is affecting consoles that haven't been connected in weeks) then what's to stop a console corrupting the next time it's turned on regardless??

Nothing but this does appear to be a network issue caused by trophy's and the DNS server that handles them. Apparently, anyway. Right now, you have good reason not to bother. Sure you can't even play any games!

But people who have not connected their ''phat'' PS3 to PSN in a while are getting this problem too. It is PSN trophy related but it can still effect units with the latest firmware that are not online. None of the updated older ''phat'' PS3s are immune to this.

Yes you can still play games. I can still play MGS4 on my PS3 because it has no trophy support.

Here's hoping this gets sorted as soon as possible in any case!

Aside from the PR disaster, it's affecting a huge amount of gamers, which is what the real issue is here, not how it's affecting Sony's image!

Earthquakes, Tsunami's, PS3s failing. The End is Near!!

I have slim but got no balls to turn it on... -_-

Keep in mind Europe is in afternoon and America/Japan is in morning. As people wake up and start to game, it could cause a huge issue with data corruption. Especially if it ends up being an issue this evening...

This problem hit the US 7 hours ago, they are up in arms about this more than we are.

Had problems with random sign outs yesterday and could barely find anyone on AvP for a match (it was fine that morning and the day before). Now today I can't even sign in. The end is near indeed!

My point is more to do with the numbers of people awake and attempting to boot up their consoles!

So should I just not turn on my PS3 til this all blows over?

because of this the current working theory from what i have read is that its a glitch in both the OS of the PS3 and the PSN in the way leap years are programmed, given that this error hit when 28th Feb became 1st March. this has not been confirmed by sony yet but it would kinda explain it

playing non trophy enabled games works fine. whatever check the system does when booting a trophy supported game seems to be where the fault is.

Make no odds really, the damage is already done inside the thing as it is if it's a "phat" model. Makes no odds if it's online or not you will get the error anyway. And you will have to turn it on to get the fix anyway. Its like keeping the door closed on a burning building, the fire has started but you will have to open it to go in and put ti out.

So I could still boot it up to watch vid files and dvds? I don't feel like rooting out some pre-trophy games, but I can hold off on playing more heavy rain for a while as long as I can still watch stuff.

Yeah, anything that does not involve trophies and you're fine.
