If that was the case, wouldn't manually setting the correct date and time with the PS3 kept off line have it back up and running with PS3 games again. The PS3 would know no different so long as you don't try to long on to PSN until tomorrow.

Didn't work for me unfortunately! My first thought was to trick the console but no joy

It's a much more serious issue so...... Just a waiting game now I suppose.

Should be fun playing MAG later with hardly anyone on! :pac:

At least if you're the only one playing you have a better chance of your squad leader listening to you.

It's like iRobot, except the new PS3s are the good ones.:p

I wonder if older models have a chip that has a read-only ROM and if that's triggering the problem, I would imagine Sony will have to fix each every console thru their service channel. That would really be a disaster, just when the PS3 slim sales where shooting up, huge titles coming on in weeks, and things were looking good for PS3!

Why can't you play games offline, seems ridiculous to me.

No when you set the date manually you're setting the time/date you see on the screen. You can't change the setting of the internal clock.

Woo my now completely useless PS3 headet arrived! I'll plug it into my PSP and play a CD of someone shouting random obscenities at me to try and replicate the experience of playing online.

Nope that wouldn't fix it at all. The hardware clock is wrong. You can set the 'software' date on your PS3 to whatever you want, that doesn't change the internal clock. Think of it like the date/time you see in the BIOS of your PC and the time you can set in Windows on your PC. The software clock is dependent on the hardware clock to keep time, but the software clock can't adjust the internal clock.

The current theory is that the internal clock in older PS3's thinks it's the 29/3/10, an impossible date. The PS3 system OS can't handle this date and thus gets all fcuked up. However, once the internal clock turns over to a real date (1/3/10) all will be well with the world again. Sony may issue a firmware update to make sure it never happens again though, who knows!

People shouldn't be spreading FUD about this, this is a very simple problem most likely that won't mean returning your PS3.

Also RE: Trophies. Trophies are tied to your save file usually, although how certain games handle them differs. However I have found that if a game you have is listing as 0% when it should be say, 35%, you can force your PS3 to show to right data by comparing trophies with a friend. However, it is possible that by turning on your PS3 today that you may have lost some unsynced trophies, we'll just have to see.

    @PlayStationEU

Rest assured, we've many people working on fixing this issue. As soon as we have some news, we'll let you know.

My mind is now at ease.

Now, as I said, I tried offline, but I did have my PS connected earlier in the day so it might have already decided it was broken at that stage.

Nah it's the BIOS clock that's fubar'ed. I stupidly thought it could be done forgetting that it works exactly like a PC BIOS.:o

So will this just solve itself tomorrow?

The best guess is that tomorrow things will be working again.

It could do, we''ll see. Tomorrow the "phat" PS3s will think it's 1/03/10 which is a possible date. Even though they will be a day out with the Slims when they sync with PSN. The question is what date do the servers on PSN think it is. That could be the crux of the problem right there. It may work tomorrow but I can't see it being 100% right until a firmware fix does the rounds.

Yes, based upon the fact that people who have forced a clock reset (by opening up their PS3's and by removing and reinserting the battery which powers the internal clock) and then have been able sign into the PSN, it would suggest that the internal clock is definitely the issue and thus should just fix itself by tomorrow. The only problem people don't know exactly what's going on is with the trophies, but we shall see about that later today/tomorrow.
It may work tomorrow but I can't see it being 100% right until a firmware fix does the rounds.
I think so too, they need to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I'm not liking this at all. I'm afraid to turn on my PS3. Since I have an american model I have a feeling I could be ****ed if there is a recall.

Feck, I kinda just ignored the error this morning. Thought problem was on my end. Finished Infamous and completed the stunts I was missing. Just assumed it would sync trophies when connected. Am very very p*ssed off right now. If my saves are corrupted I may just go nuclear myself....

I wouldn't turn it on tbh. At least not until after midnight tonight when it could be fixed.

FYI guys, it should sort itself out by 12 tonight as apparently the internal clock runs by GMT. I might stay up until then to see if the internet has gone nuclear or if everyone has calmed down and returned to gaming.

Don't worry dude, there won't be a recall. This has happened to other consumer electronics devices since Y2K, it just requires waiting until the next day for the system clock to sort itself out.

Your saves can't get corrupted by this problem. If your system registers the trophies you're fine, when the PSN is working again for you you'll just re-sync your trophies and everything will be fine. The only problem is if your system doesn't register that you got those trophies, but from the sounds of it it already has.

this better be ****ing fixed for next tuesday 9th. i am ready to skip work to get stuck into FF13. get to it Sony.
you know given the fact that they cant update the systems via the psn to fix the bug this could end up being something like downloading an .exe to a flash drive and plugging that into our ps3s and run it to fix the bug.
    just a theory

Turnned on my PS for a sneaking game and date and time wrong and getting that error code. will keep it off and hopefully it will be back soon.

Something very similar happened to the Microsoft Zune media player when it tried to roll over to the 1st January 2009. It was leap year related (leap year in 2008, 366 days) and it was resolved the next day, 2nd January.

They can update without psn. Internet is still working on the console, just access to the psn isn't.
