the competition Authority really needs to look into RTE

..... dont ask me, I was flicking around and tuned into 2fm Saturday 2 weeks ago, they actually have started a program called 'ballbusters'

    http://2fm.rte.ie/ballbusters

it is pathetic, the ad lib sucks, the presenters are very, very bad

they seem to do a rehash of what Off the Ball covers during the week, an example being this : http://2fm.rte.ie/blogs/ballbusters/2010/01/mad-italian-commentator---juve-v-roma.html

I object to my TV license money being pooled to generate crap like this

This is a fine example of how TALENTLESS RTE actually is.

RTE hang your heads in shame

(in effect, my point is that my TV license money is used to try and drown out or specifically compete with anything that hits RTEs ratings)

Just like their terrible Nob Nation is a poor attempt at copying Gift Grub.

Your license fee doesn't contribute towards the running of 2fm. It's commercial station.

Mind you, the way they are heading, they might have to ask for some of the license fee in order to stay afloat.

well I would like you to show me how for example the Salaries of Gerry Ryan, Jacqui Hurley etc are paid/factored as they also work on other RTE channels

2FM broadcast from facilities that were built at taxpayers and license fee payers expense

2FM received their licence without competition

Kraggy, always remember.... dont let an accountants paperwork tell you lies.

I think Ken Early and the OTB are doing a great job. People underestimate the difficulty of a 3 hour live show. Their style and format keeps the listener engaged, humour being an integral part of the show.

Repped. Fair fcuks to them for keeping going for 3 hours, which must seem like an eternity in radio terms. And they cover pretty much all sports unlike Cahill and his ilk. Even Early's South Dublin drone doesnt annoy me the way it should.

Disappointed the numbers are down. Has the Drivetime RTE sports bit moved permanently to 7 now?

I think it's a fantastic show. Love the banter between the lads, laughing at each others questions after an interview.
They have great guests on, including Danny Mills who's very articulate for a footballer.

Ken has bad look with pets. I can't remember them all, but his cat was thrown against a wall by a bunch of scumbags and something bad happened to his goldfish "goggles". Can one of the Kens give us the details of his pet deaths?

Ken is the most entertaining member of OTB (sorry Murph). His witty remarks and random inserts of historic trivia makes his serious points seem hilarious.

He knows his ****. He gets asked to do the Guardian football podcast from time-to-time.

Not any more, since he had a go at Barry Glendenning for criticising Shay Given.

Indeed ,and you are perfectly entitled to it.

I just find Early a boring SoCo person who hit it lucky, and whose on air delivery borders on the semi comatose ramblings of a spotty student.

Not my cup of tea at all.

    Just my opinion though

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,397 ✭✭✭Paparazzo

Did anyone hear them talking about his superbowl "party"? Ken wore his Bears jersey specially for Eoin (who didn't turn up). Murph let his hamster out in his zorb type ball. They had nacho chips. What a party!
It's the only show on radio I actually hate missing. Got a recording feature on my mp3 player, dead handy for recording it if i'm out and I can listen to it in work the next day

Hmmmm Martin Johnson would run him close.

that guy is surly rather than dour

was listening to the show on tuesday night and after another check in on the man utd v milan match , they responded to a text by someone who wanted to know where the rest of the ninja turtles and shredder were as leonardo was on the field , earley then went on to explain how in actual fact shredder was the baddie , love that , the sheer geekiness which is an integral part of the show

You seem to be unfamiliar with the concept of "appreciation" threads.

    Well done:D

We should start an Eoin McDevitt appreciation thread. The real star of the show. Isn't afraid to shut ken up with the hooter.
I actually like Murphs country pages!
"First prize in the Strokestown GAA raffle is a bag of coal"
Off the ball is funny with serious interviews. All the guys know a good bit about sport. Just think the alternative is Des "Dessie" Cahill.
Off the ball make a show of RTE sports shows. That includes Eamon Dunphy's ridiculous weekly contradictions

I think you will find that 'appreciation' can be construed in several ways;)

#2 in the Collins English Dic. might interest you:cool:

Yes, the "...especially a favorable one" bit was particularly interesting. Cheers.

Which is why I specifically mentioned the Collins English dic.

The other is from a different dictionary, which will drop your jaw when you notice:D:D

Anyway I'll be banned for going off topic.

Early is an acquired taste, and indeed OTB is a breath of fresh air and I'm glad you enjoy it.

I'm getting to appreciate it a bit more.

    Good man and best wishes.

for those who want a visual fix of Ken, Setanta Ireland at midnight usually has off the ball for half an hour, always seems to be the 8-830 bit they show.

It is opn Setanta Sports 1 at 10, if you want to pay to see him.

I think he is cool myself.

Saw that. The nights I've seen it they were showing the 7-7.30 slot which makes sense as it's a sports round up.
