Is it just me or the more threads you read do you become a lot more nervous about the whole thing? I'm working through the tests in the hope that I can score high enough to get through this round. Would anyone from previous campaigns think IST is hardest/Easiest Stage??

Everyone's different. Personally, I would say the IST is easier than the Assessment Centre. But they are very different. And even having passed both, like yourself I am getting nervous about the first stage as a lot of people are saying not to underestimate it. The IST and AC I think are both tough but can be passed with good preparation.

For me the key to passing the IST would be to watch your time.

The threads are very useful but try not to get to caught up or worried, just take it in your stride and one stage at a time.

when you pass the AC, you will get a score, the RC's and nonRC's are put into 2 separate lists in order of the performance on the AC. some people will score the same mark as other, ie 18 people may all score 61, so the 18 people are then put into rank order of IST result. this then forms the merit list, number 1 being the person with the highest score. the top 220 are taken from each list but some people drop out, fail vetting/med etc so the ones further on down the merit lists past 220 are still in with a chance.

re-read that and it sound complicated to me  does it make sense to you?

However, if they cant get the full 440 places filled, then finishing 200th overall, for example, might not be good enough if they can only get 95rc to accept positions, as this would only allow 95 non-rc in. Obviously its complete guesswork as to the breakdown of rc and non-rc above you. You could be a non-rc, 250th on merit list and there only be 20 rc above you and you'll maybe miss out. Thats my take on it anyway

yea thats right about the rc/non rc thing, they have to pair them up as best they can but when RCs run out then non rc stops too!

aint sayin your wrong, but this is somethin i never really considered, i sort of just assumed that there were 2 separate merit lists for rc non rc?? anybody got anymore light to shed on this??

I would say hotel glo makes more sense. Only 1 merit list. And they go down and pick the top 220 RC and top 220 Non-RC from that list. (If 440 places).

Is it only rc's from northern ireland or would southern irish rc's be considered rc's for the purpose of selection and the merit pool.

I only ask because they only ask for your secondary school if you went to school in Northern Ireland.

RC is RC irrespective of where you hail from.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21 Blaze90

Me too. Starting to panic, doing as much revision as possible as well as trying to get my fitness up to standard again.

Im glad I found this site cause I would have severely underestimated how the IST is structured and its contents.

Hopefully the first times a charm.

    Hi Miss Gee,

Yeah 1st timer also. Decided to take the plunge. Really looking forward to the process but my understanding is that the waiting is the worst part.

Yeah the waiting is terrible! It took my boyfriend 5 tries to get in!!! Which is similiar for alot of people I hear!!! If we don't get through 1st time, just keeping trying again and again! The experience and practice will be good!

But then again, beginners luck.... so heres hoping :D

I think the Numerical Reasoning is Maths to GCSE level ?

I'm guessing GCSE maths revision guides would be helpful!

If its really what you want to do be careful about going away, as part of the vetting process you must be continously resident in the UK for (I think) 3 years prior to your application date

I have this weird question about names on the Deloitte IST information letter. Lets say my name is William Smith (of course it isn't). On the application form they asked for my first name, so I wrote in William. Then they asked for surname, so I wrote in Smith. Then they asked for the name I'm known by and I wrote in Will. Now on the letter that I received it says Mr Will Smith everywhere. Will that make a difference with the ID? Since my ID would be saying William Smith not Will Smith.

How long would you be fit to head away for then in that case, would a 2 month holiday count as not being a resident?

There won't be a problem so no need to worry.
