Apologies DeV, but I must say I think it's great to hear him acknowledge the smuggling problem and say that they'll be looking to tackle it from January.

There's a fella here in Blackrock (the Dublin one) selling those Reva G-Wiz thingies. They really do look like death traps though, that's the only place I know.

Phew. They are extending the start-up 3-year exemption. Thought I was going to have to rush through a company registration this month.

5% reduction would have brought the higher rate to 16.5% and in line with UK rates

I am well surprised about social welfare.

i was expecting a reduction to 190 for over 24's.

Does not seem fair tbh when everyone else is doing their bit

Cant speak for anybody else, but while the budget is being read, I think they should throw out anybody who interupts the minister for Finance from reading it out . .

I dont want to hear mumbles of people shouting at him . .

I want to hear the fkn budget . . Then you can have a go at him ! !

Typical childish, schoolround bs that happens . . (wouldnt be surprised if its SF backbenchers causing the trouble either!) .

With what jobs, we are still not competitive with the UK.

I was just in a pub in Dublin at the weekend advertising for kitchen, bar and lounge staff... my local spar is looking for staff. There are jobs out there.

Perhaps VAT shouldn't have gone down by 5%.

    But half a bloody percent?!

Not gonna make one iota of difference.

Is this right? Unemployment for 22-24 year olds cut to 150? Thats a harsh cut. If it is I better start trying harder to get work.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,968 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Clearly thinks we can drink our way out of this.

VAT should have gone down more.

    Car scrappage scheme = good.

56 million to FAS is a waste.

    John Gormley looks monumentally bored.

Don't see how its good, we make no cars and the scheme is of little use to the kind of people who drive 10 year old cars.

could you help with someone who's on 46k please

    By my calculations:

    30,000 @ 5% = 1500
    16,000 @ 7.5% = 1200

    Total reduction = 2700

    new Salary 43,300

    I think thats right

Surely to God if you've made it into a €46k paying job you can do a quick search on the internet and some basic primary school maths?

    first 30k@5% =1500
    then 16k@7.5%=1200

    2700

    46000-2700=43300

I love that, you can hear him perfectly even with the mumbles. I was happy to hear him shouted down twice so far, shows the displeasure with the budget and echos the sentiments of the public.
