No you have to stay here and have us PC users talk down to you and dismiss your childs toy of a computer while we tell you how much better all PC games are as long as they don't come from those nasty cheap consoles. :pac:

CDWOW really on the ball, shipped today should have it sometime before the end of the year.

You cannot patch fundamental design flaws. There's no dedicated server, none planned either, no joining a game in progress, this can work on consoles but not on pc. This game should never have been released on pc as they never considered how it would run/look, they put no thought into the pc version, another shoddy port. Consoles don't have many games like this, which is why it kinda works on console, but it fails big time on pc.

Only started playing this evening, tried one of the bonus missions and saw a tractor; great I thought, I can relive my days of pissing about on Everon in a tractor, except the game won't let me.

So far not that impressed - playing on xbox - and i keep wanting to leave it to install OPF CWC on my laptop.

Have to agree. Its just getting messy. Even the threads from the xbox fourm are being moved here and being merged on here. If I tell you the codes can we have one???

    Pretty please:)

+1 for a seperate console thread, ye PC lads will be glad to be rid of us anyways....:D

Just played it there for an hour, could be ok once i get into it, but there are definitely a few problems with it, graphics, squad controls, etc. Will give it a better go tomorrow night before giving out about it.

The Arma II guys are having fun with the editor, I was wondering why You sometimes empty a full clip into an enemy without killing them, bulletproof air, amazing

On another note, Hardcore mode doesn't make it any harder or the Ai any smarter, it just turns off the hud and disables the checkpoints

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,378 ✭✭✭Krieg

Yeah the first couple hours were fun but its flaws became apparent after that.

I have yet to properly try the map editor, though I doubt it'll be the saviour of the game

Only 64 entities allowed on the map at the same time, can be replaced or respawned or triggered but its a very strange limitation on the editor.

    ..........

    So...

I hear call of duty:modern warfare 2 is out next month

Oh i tried, there is a way to do it but it seems if you wanted say a 4 man coop mission vs a few recon teams then attack a base. Only part of the entities can be spawned at once. Some need to be triggered and checkpoints count as entities

I will have my riot :D someone willl crack it. Also 2000x200 grid for MP is a bit crap too.

I dunno man, I get Arma II, and I couldn't play it. Gave up after a few attempts. It was a horrible experience. Although from what I'm reading here, maybe I'll give it another shot in multiplayer. I only tried the single player.

SP in Arma was pretty much broken when it was released. It's pretty much fixed now and as a single player campaign it's a lot more varied an interesting than OF2, not to mention longer.

The thing is though, even if the SP campaign was perfect on launch, it would have still utterly paled to multiplayer. If all you played was single-player, you would completely miss one of the best multiplayer experiences I've ever had on the PC.

As a quick example, one time I was pinned down by a BMP and some infantry in a town. I ran for cover into a shop with bullets flying everywhere and infantry flanking me.

The game was up and I was just waiting to be killed when I heard the deep rumbling of an A-10 cannon as it strafed the street killing everything in sight. It was just spectacular and enhanced even more by the A10 sound mod I had installed. It was a completely random encounter on a server, You couldn't script that if you wanted to. And the other great thing about Arma - there is such a great community constantly making new stuff for it.

And then of course there was the time a few of us played a mission with hardcore military sim guys. I think at least one was ex-army. That was interesting.

All of those kinds of experiences will never happen with OF2. I had high hopes for this game. I wanted it to be better than Arma. I get the feeling some people think OF2 is being bashed by Arma fans almost for the sake of it, maybe to slag off consoles or perhaps out of some kind of loyalty for the little developer. Its not that, its just a better game. Bohemia make sims for the military for god's sake.

Good post, Max. I've played through a few missions of OFP:DR and I'm really liking it. It reminds me of OFP, with the huge map, cumbersome controls and sometimes frustrating AI, but ultimately rewarding. I just finished a 2 hour mission, assisting an AI SpecOps team, taking out a few patrols and a SAM site, calling in a fire mission, reconing a crash site, attacking an armoured convoy, rescuing some downed pilots and then getting picked up by an SH-60. It was so good!

Myself and some friends still play OFP MP to this day (FDF mod) on account of the shocking quality of ARMA when it was released, and I subsequently couldn't bring myself to give BI anymore of my money after they released it like that. So is ARMA II worth actually buying or will it just make me cry in frustration like ARMA?

It is a really really bad game. Which sucks cos I was really looking forward to it. Yea it's buggy and clunky, but at it's core it's just incredibly boring. It's not gonna get fixed with a patch so anybody who's reading this and hasn't bought it, don't.

    Fidelis,
Arma 2 is all about the multiplayer. It seems you have a gang of mates who you play with, I would recommend you all get it and come join the server (currently down at the mo) we use. It really is brilliant when playing MP, and the community keeps it going with new maps, weapons, missions etc. Check our armaholic.com.

    2 hours
4 of us playing coop got thru it in 20 mins, honestly. If You're getting killed it prob seems alot longer than it is. The missions in this are very short, in fact we commented on how little there was in each mission, its just spread out and hard, not much content.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,425 ✭✭✭Fidelis

Lies! :p Anyway, co-op is always going to be streaks ahead. Better human aim, less giving orders etc. but you'd have to just drive straight to the crash site (2km away) to do that in 20 minutes! Sure it takes about 5 minutes to hump it up to the first fire-fight and clear out the enemy, and another 5 minutes hump up to the extraction point from where the pilots are. I'm playing Hardcore (no checkpoints), so I was being cautious

    Thanks for the info, cashville.

Anywhere, at launch in June it was only €30 in Game, might even have dropped but €30 is not that expensive IMO. Be sure to patch it before playing.

Have a look at the stickies for the basic controls and what they're trying to achieve. Get used to the basic controls with the armoury and sp game and get online with it, but don't expect to understand fully how to play for a month of playing, we've been playing for 3 months and are still finding new things, its evolving and changing all the time. We're working on getting as a server back up, see You then

    Need help with the
    Infiltration of the Fuel Depot
    level.
Whats the best point of entry? I've left my squad up in the tree line to give myself a better chance of getting in and out without being seen but someone always does (dont know who) and the alarm goes off.

    Cheers

Well I think so, as do a bunch of other guys here. It is complex though, there's a learning curve but if a hardcore military sim is to your taste, then there's nothing better than Arma.

As far as OF2 is concerned, it actually reminds me more of the early Ghost Recon games than the original flashpoint.

Some guy has filed a lawsuit against Codemasters for false advertising, his full list of proof is on page 4, worth the lol, they've banned him of course
    http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=388092

He does raise a valid argument though
